(The Queen) could have tried to persuade him to wait a year or so, but like any grandparent, I suppose she wanted to make him happy

I doubt that would have suited Meghan, IdaGlossop, who clearly wanted to get the ring in place before what was always obvious became widely known, and it follows that Harry would have gone nuclear too ... "they're trying to stall the marriage because she's black"

@puzzledandpissedoff you are right, I am being impractical. The Queen opted for a quiet life in the short term, even though brother William, Uncle Charles, Tom Inskip and others had urged restraint.

What do you mean when you say 'what was always obvious'?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · Yesterday 16:17

Having said that, why isn't anyone questioning that she is being controlling and potentially abusive towards Harry?

Have thought that right from the beginning. Thousands of miles from friends, family, former army colleagues and any support network.

The other thing I noticed early on is the hand on the back. That's a gesture I've seen PMs use to visiting dignitaries to guide them into No 10 once pics are done - 'here, I know you're a stranger and not familiar with where you are, perhaps a bit unsure which way to go, let me guide you.'

Dominance move, in other words.

You just lost ten house points for adjacent. Put a quid in the swear jar please.

My contribution to the thread is that I'm staying on brand by having a ham sandwich for lunch 💪

Great name 😂😂😂😂😂

The royals only need the sovereign's permission to marry to keep their place in the line of succession. Harry could have just got married but then they wouldn't have had a splendiferous affair with carriages and flags. And he and the hamlets would be out of the LoS.

Exactly.

The Succession to the Crown Act 2013 repealed the Royal Marriages Act 1772.

It says that the first 6 people in line to the throne require the consent of the monarch to marry; the marriage must be recorded in certain places; and if the consent is not obtained that person and the person's descendants are disqualified from succession.

Harry was 6th in line at the time of his marriage.

Something has come to me while reading this informative and entertaining thread and before I say what, I was a Harry fan, I felt Meghan and he would be a lovely breath of fresh air and watched the wedding, with an increasingly incredulous air.

Having said that, why isn't anyone questioning that she is being controlling and potentially abusive towards Harry?

A lot of people did. Then many of them started to realise that H is possibly worse than she is. He’s not that innocent - he seems to have a cruel streak in him.

From discussion just on this thread it’s clear that some posters think he potentially has psychopathic traits.

It's been mentioned, and discussed, a few times during these threads. It's certainly possible that there is or was an element of that behaviour.

I think what tends to move people away from the subject is Harry's own behaviour - in Spare, interviews, court cases and statements. It has been unpleasant and vindictive.
For me, it's important to be careful not to blame Meghan for Harry's behaviour, which can be a feature in some other corners of the internet.

I am wondering if H's vulnerability is why KCIII is working out what to do. He may think needs rescuing but there are also the children to consider.

With the benefit of hindsight, I wonder that QEII agreed to the marriage. The early examples of Meghan's character, the way she must have come across to courtiers and the family, and whatever the intelligence services unearthed about her were all red flags. As with Andrew, sentiment over-ruling judgement, perhaps.

Maybe because she couldn't allow Princess Margaret to marry the man she loved, but not more than the royal title, etc, she didn't want to stop another marriage. I know fundamentally it was Princess Margaret's choice, but I'm sure there would have been a way.

The way was to come out of the LoS which Margaret wouldn't countenance.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's what drove all their celeb mates away : thinking 'blimey, if he's that harsh about his family what's he likely to be saying about us??'

I'm laughing at the cap as well! Does he think it makes him look edgy? Or like children who like to dress up like Fireman Sam?

It hides his friar tuck.

That's not quite true I don't think. The next six in line have to ask permission. I suspect it's to keep things as royal as they can. I'll stick with that.

Back in 2018, when HAM came here to Oz and announced Megs was pregnant everyone was fucking thrilled. Until they weren't- it all went south when Megs started her diva shit. Fine- she was pregnant, many allowances were made for her behavior. Until she did too many things that were witnessed by staff and journalists.

I really wanted her to do well, but she fucked it up from the start.

Fast forward to the faux 'Royal' tour earlier this year to the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. My DS age 10 has regular treatments there, I know the place very well. I could not believe HAM were allowed to do what they did. I took it up with the hospital PR... it's complicated. Sorry for ranting, but it really was quite shameful of them.

Edited

I live in the UK but I wrote to the hospital PR too, having worked in PR and been a trustee at a children's hospital. The assembling of the children showed a shocking disregard for their comfort. Harry's visit to a school in Birmingham for Invictus a couple of weeks ago exhibited similar features - PR for royal-adjacent people taking precedence over the wellbeing of children. The negative press the two of them have received since returning to the UK should stand as a warning to other organisations considering events involving them.

Without courtiers to protect him, Harry's true nature has been on display for us all to see. Ironic given the trashing they are given in Spare.

Meghan is still using the strategies that worked to get her attention as a D-list celeb... setting up pap strolls in car parks or "date nights" arriving/leaving restaurants

She has done this a lot since she moved back to the US - often released to grab attention from the RF events OR Harry's solo events that she wasn't invited to Amazing how often her security makes her walk right across the car park/along the pavement 😉😉😉

This is what cracks me up!

She's now a Duchess who had a wedding watched by a billion people, who had lucrative media deals and used to have people bowing to her and calling her Your Royal Highness. Yet now she's doing the same lame 'look at me' tactics you'd associate with some wannabe circa 2017. She really has come full circle.

Was this conversation with the Queen before or after William had cautioned him "to take his time to get to know this girl"

Timeline wise I'm not sure but seeing as he wanted to propose I'm guessing after? As Williams comment I recall that H started the tantrums but not what H actually said, it was definitely the start of them going their separate ways.

Speculation I know, guess H may well have told M of what W had said, and if she manipulated H to begin to see W as being against him. Classic behaviour I've seen in many coercive relationships.

If indeed the Queen did make this comment after Williams comment it would explain her response.

The official story was that she didn’t want to leave Archie on his birthday . So she went out “ hiking”.
I am sure if she had been allowed a robe and tiara and a front row seat she would have been there !

Do you remember all the frothing on here from Sussex Squaddies about how awful it was that they had "deliberately" picked Archie's birthday for the Coronation. That it was a slight against him and they should have picked a different date for hundreds of World leaders and dignitaries to work around.

JoanChitty · Yesterday 17:15

I think Meghan told Harry she was pregnant, the oldest trick in the book, to force him to propose. She needed to get that ring on her finger quickly before he had second thoughts. Iirc hadn’t he broken things off with her before ? Then she turned up at a wedding she hadn’t been invited to and mad another attempt which was successful.

Off topic, but are people having (or have had) the pneumonia jab as well?

"The pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccine protects against serious bacterial infections like pneumonia, meningitis, and sepsis. 1]
Who Should Get It

  • Babies: Routine schedule includes a dose at 16 weeks and a booster at 1 year. 1]
  • Adults aged 65 and over: A single lifetime dose is recommended. 1]
  • High-risk individuals: Anyone with chronic heart, lung, kidney, or liver disease, diabetes, a compromised immune system, or asplenia"

I don't know why GP practices send out invitations for a Flu jab but don't advertise the pneumonia jab.

I had mine a couple of years ago as I am in the high risk category. The next one I am expecting is shingles.

I am lucky that my GP is very pro-active on preventative care.

Personally no, I never read or watch any of these 'royal experts'. I don't feel I've missed out on anything thus far!

If the plan as (I think it was V Low said) was always to leave the RF then a long engagement wouldn't serve, because she'd be doing all this learning about the RF that she wasn't going to need and wasting time when they could be setting up their separate life. And a long engagement would give the RF to get better acquainted with her and start asking questions about her family.

Thank you, so much! It was terrible. I was told every child there had permission from their parents. That doesn't mean much, when your kid can barely make it down to the food court, that's a treat in itself. HAM were in the foyer next to the food court with people wandering past, no masks, entrance clogged with HAMs staffers. When we saw one of our doctors the following week he was furious about it but he'd had no say in the matter.

Agreed, you'd think any serious charity org would think twice about what positive impact HAM could possibly have given their past behaviour. Grrrrrrrr.
