I rather doubt anyone will be swearing fealty at William's coronation. I'm expecting it to be a very different event to Charles'. Charles was stuck with the memory of the late Queen's service which seems extremely outdated and strange in the 21st century, which at the time couldn't be altered very much because of the nostalgia swirling around. I'm betting William will have a much freer hand to create a ceremony that is more suitable for a modern monarchy.

I'd like them to keep the anointing but skip the regalia and fealty. Make it about serving the country rather than the monarch.

I agree - although do note that KC formalised his oath to serve the people, and the congregation was comprised more of charity and community workers than Lords and Ladies.
Like you, I suspect that the ceremony will respect the traditions of millennia, with a more modern construct.

Opinions vary.

It's a misquotation, and a misunderstanding. However, you're free to use it as you please. I've no idea what it means in the context of this thread, however.

You need to be appointed by Parliament as someone appropriate to carry out the duties in support of the Head of State.

So no qualifications then. Parliament doesn’t really have a clue about the people they employ in the case of AMW.

That's really interesting. I wonder whether it could be changed to something like the Norwegians have which is more a service of dedication

Aspects of the current one go back 1,000s of years, so I suspect some continuity, but you could well be right.

"Parliament" isn't one person.
So it "not having a clue" makes no sense whatsoever.

Yes I think dedication is a good word for what I would expect the theme of the service to be. Still with crowning but less about the monarch's rights and more about responsibilities and duty to the country. I really believe Charles would have liked a more modern service but was stuck being the transition monarch.

You know what I meant parliament in the collective term. No need to get personal.

Trying not to be nitpicky, AMW was appointed by the Government not Parliament. I'm betting some MPs would have had a lot to say given the chance. The Government and civil service should have a look at their systems to ensure it doesn't happen again.

I said nothing personal at all. You said Parliament "didn't have a clue". I'm saying it's not one person.
That is not personal. As well you know.
Nice try

Parliament doesn't employ them, we do, and that is expressed via parliament as the elected representatives of the people of the United Kingdom.

If the people decided they wanted to be shot of the monarchy, it would be parliament's job to enact that as the people's will.

Although. given the calibre of some MPs, 'Parliament doesn't have a clue' is a pretty fair summing up.

No idea of the veracity of this but there’s a copy of The Bench signed by Meghan dedicated to Eugenie going on eBay for £19,999!

That advent calendar illustration of their home is awful, like a cheap jigsaw from The Works. It’s surely an AI creation with a Thomas Kinkade prompt. For that price they should be using (and paying!) a human illustrator.

I don't think marketing is a strong point. Or presentation.

What exactly is "outdated" about the heir to the throne swearing loyalty and faith to the new King, his father? It was a touching moment and symbolically important. I'd hope very much that the heir is loyal and faithful to the King!

Do you think MPs swearing an oath of allegiance is also "outdated"?

I think an endorsement from Tom Cruise is neither here nor there for W+C beyond a fun night. But since he’s the biggest and most powerful movie star in the world right now, his endorsement would be extremely meaningful for a couple who left the RF, moved to USA and tried to set themselves up as Hollywood A-listers. (Especially when that couple evidently sees nothing wrong with ditching family members.)

I’ve no doubt that Meghan would absolutely love Tom Cruise to say how intelligent and funny she is, how much respect he has for her, and that Harry made a great choice. He never will though.

But since he’s the biggest and most powerful movie star in the world right now

Completely off topic but, eh, Tom Cruise, the biggest movie star in the world??
Though hang on… Tom, is that you?😀

Some questions were raised about Andrew's suitability in parliament but Ed Davey assured that Andrew was a great choice.

Maybe Eugenie is feeling the pinch! Or maybe she gave it away? 😂
Shame. The Yorks and the Sussexes have always been such good friends.

Maybe it was meant to be put in the skip on a Frogmore clean out and Fergie popped in to help and saw it..

This must be fake. It’s signed off “All love” and not As Ever which is what Meg told us she signed everything off with. Honestly, these charlatans trying to fob us off with counterfeit items 🤬

It looks like Meghan's particular form of handwriting though. She adds the strange tails to certain letters.
Perhaps she forgot to add "As Ever" because she was too distracted by some flower sprinkles.
