Genuine question ~

Why would there be any need to have a Thanksgiving Service for Diana?

We've never, to the best of my knowledge, had one for the Queen Mother and I wouldn't expect one for Queen Elizabeth ll or Prince Philip

Anniversaries of deaths tend to be privately commemorated by families. I believe HMQEll used to spend the day quietly at Sandringham to mark the passing of her father

QEII was 26 when she lost her father so not a child like W / H but still very young. Her father was a King who stepped in to serve after his brother’s abdication. I think he was very popular and relatable as he had challenges to overcome re his stammer and he was king during the war and didn’t flee London.

Yet there has never been a 30th anniversary thanksgiving service for him. Why would the RF put on a service for Diana? Answer: they wouldn’t.

IMO the whole DM article is to answer any Diana fans who might be thinking ‘well Charles Spencer has written a book, Harry is doing a documentary, what is the RF doing to mark the anniversary?’ So they are showing they have thought about it because it’s the thought that counts. Nothing will actually happen though.

This from the DM.
OK a bit tongue in cheek but from a man who turned down an engagement with the Marines to go Disney whispering? (too much? too soon? )

I can only imagine the military leaders gave the former junior officer a stiff but polite ignoring..

And he needs to lay off the "lost purpose and identity" spin, it's his own fault he didn't prepare himself adequately for leaving HM Forces.

Could we all agree not to post on days I'm busy 🙃 I've got about 25 pages to catch up on. Or when traitors is on. Tyvm

AlexandraCarrington · 01/10/2026 18:26

Yet there has never been a 30th anniversary thanksgiving service for him.

The Queen always remembered the anniversary of her father's death privately, at Sandringham. The King has never publicly marked the anniversary of the Queen's death. So it would be a departure from their normal practice to have any public event.

His speeches are so bloody negative and uninspiring. How the hell did this relate to Ingriftus?

He had opportunities that would have given him a purpose in life. He threw them away.

Yes, more opportunities than most people.

I agree. A cousin of mine was RAF. ( I don't see them often so , I think I'm right here ) flew Chinooks ( I think apaches are a different kettle of fish and the army - happy to be corrected ) , delivering supplies and sometimes rescue missions. Said cousin retired and has subsequently had a job as a flying instructor inter alia. I think H just didn't bother because he ( at the time ) had a ready made job to go to. Which, since M, didn't quite work out. I'm not saying people should not be helped to move into civilian life , but I don't think H is really the one to deliver the message from personal experience

Charles is not a fool. The presence of HAM at the pre-Christmas lunch and SandringHAM would make things very awkward for everyone round the tables. He won't invite them. Which of us would want to be scoffing turkey with relatives who have spent six years publicly slagging us orf, especially after a public weigh-in in the bedecked Hall?

I doubt William and family would want to have lunch with them, a quick walk over to the church then it would be back to Anmer, I can't imagine anyone wanting to be with them, it would be like a quasi police interview, 'Anything you say will be taken down, twisted and maybe used against you in the court of public opinion', Charles would have to turn off the wifi for the day!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/10/2026 18:50

I seem to remember some info leaked by her ever reliable friends who said she will never willingly set foot in the UK again, so ... what's she doing here?

I'm definitely with you on your Option 3 there, @cheezncrackers; she'll see if any further opportunities to cash in have arisen over the last 6 years, and if not she'll be off - very possibly with the kids after promising Harry she's "just taking them to visit grandma"

She told that directly to an interviewer for the Cut magazine.

There are many, MANY courses offered to officers leaving the army. Harry is the only one I've heard of who hasn't made the most of it.
I only know non-commissioned ranks who have done incredibly well after a career in the army as well but as everyone knows (we didn't need you to tell us, Haz!) many do sadly slip through the various nets offered.
How DARE Harry try to compare himself with a soldier who fares badly after leaving the military.

But I thought the Cut interview predated their return, Williaminagingerwig?

I didn't read it, but surely she didn't actually say she'd be off if there wasn't anything to merch??

Remember the statement :

"We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace"

They gush more about other public figures. 🙄

I'm sure that the rest of the family wished Kate well when she was ill but only one pair found it necessary to say they did! Were they trying to imply that no-one else had, how kind and thoughtful we are, unlike the rest of you?

I am preparing to release an appropriately official circular revealing all my whereabouts and specifics because I'm strangely addicted to attention yet paranoid about my safety.

Then more posting may resume.

BasiliskStare · 01/10/2026 19:12

@ChubbyCheeksCharlie my cousin was a commisioned officer (I'm not sure whether that makes a difference ) but I do agree with - H isn't the one to be lecturing here. In relative terms he hasn't made a blinding success of the opportunities affording to him after he left the army.

Sorry - let me explain. In the Cut interview, she told the interviewer that her children couldn't ever go to school in the UK, because they would be harrassed by dozens of paparazzi - she said that by schooling them the USA, she was being a "responsible parent".

Ah but, as H told NATO senior officers only this afternoon, 'I had other ways to serve'.

Ah right, I see what you mean, and no doubt this carry-on over "threats at the school" is designed to support this

I can't quite see that she'd need this as an argument for custody though, and would have thought Harry's obvious mental turmoil and self confessed drug use would be ammunition enough ... "I'm just a traditional, jam making homemaker and mom and he's a hopelessly addled stoner" Confused

Yes, news reports in August suggested that Catherine would go with William, and that it would be a royal visit, not just a trip to host the prize ceremony.

Kate’s backing of William’s interests will be even more evident this November, when she is due to accompany her husband to the 2026 Earthshot Prize ceremony in Mumbai, India. The couple are also likely to spend time in Delhi at the request of the UK government.

It might be hard to overshadow that.
