he's expecting an apology

For what, exactly? That he didn't get an extra sausage? That William broke his necklace?

I'd believe Rebecca English before I'd believe Richard Eden and I haven't seen anything from her for a while.

Rebecca is sensible if saccharine. Keeping away from Harry stories is a good move. She has excellent sources and gets invited to everything, including yesterday's Pulborough jaunt.

This 30-year memorial service sounds even dafter than the daft idea that Harry is going to make a documentary about Diana.

Aside from it being highly unlikely that William will want to have anything to do with such a memorial service, who would actually attend? I doubt Charles Spencer or Diana's sisters would attend, so what's the point? Are they going to scrape together some people from the charities that Diana worked for? And that's going back way more than 30 years. Most of them will either be dead or it was such a long time ago it would be weird for them suddenly to commemorate Diana in Westminster Abbey or wherever. Or will they invite Diana's celebrity friends? Plenty of them are dead too, so it will just be Elton.

Similarly with the idea of a documentary about Diana by Harry, who is going to appear in that? William won't, I doubt Charles Spencers or her sisters will want to be in it. So what's the point? Probably no one who was close to Diana or knew her will want to be in it, Harry was not yet 13 when she died, so his personal memories of her will be limited and those of a child. He may have some personal photographs or videos of her, but probably not much that won't require permission from William or Charles or Charles Spencer to use.

Harry himself isn't intelligent enough or diligent enough to put in the work to come up with a sensitive and astute profile of his mother, so if he ever did do such a documentary it would be very superficial. The production company would probably try to push him in directions he doesn't want to go.

I think there was something in 'Project Thaw', and Richard Eden wasn't imagining it. This is entirely my own opinion, simply from watching what was happening over the last couple of years, thinking about what he said, and thinking about the people involved.

I think the people involved in Project Thaw were certain courtiers who felt it would be 'good for the monarchy' if they were 'seen to be forgiving', and certain republican-leaning politicians who welcomed the Sussexes early on as disruptors, and would be happy for them to be back within the RF structure in that role.

I think it fell down on two counts:

-KCIII, for all his faults, is not stupid. He may love his family (we see how he is with the Wales children, and have been told of him reading stories to his wife's grandchildren), but he has a profound appreciation of his constitutional role. He will not do anything that will jeopardise that, or the monarchy as a whole. He has spent most of his life as apprentice to a constitutional expert.

-Harry. He is almost the antithesis of his father in these respects. If he had the sense to realise how best to behave, it might have worked. However, he continued to rant against both family and Family, and accuse his father of unconstitutional behaviour. He has most recently vilified one of His Majesty's independent judges, because he did not get the result he wanted.

This is just my opinion - and also why I don't think Harry will be a working royal again. He may be back within the family (small f) at some point in the future.

@bluegreygreen - that's a thoughtful post and I think has much merit ( not that you need my approval 😊- but have it anyway )

MrMarkhamsFanClub · 01/10/2026 17:49

@AutumnCrowSaysWTAF
It was also a bit funny that M said they had the archbishop marry them in their ‘back yard’. There’s such a huge difference in meaning of ‘back yard’ between the US and parts of the UK. I had visions of Justin Welby in his flowing robes standing next to the bins by the back gate, wrinkling his nose a little and batting away a couple of flies.

And stood between the coal shed and the outside toilet....

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/10/2026 16:51

The longer all this nonsense goes on, the clearer it becomes to me that this move back to the UK was for one reason and one reason only - to force the issue of their security and do absolutely everything that can to get it reinstated

I get the point, @cheezncrackers, but if that was the case why wouldn't Harry say so - as in something like "This issue is so crucial that I need to be there to meet with the decision makers"?

It's not as if he's resisted gabbing about his security already, and at least it might have offered a cover for any other reasons

I suspect he wouldn't want to say out loud that that's the reason, because it sounds really manipulative. But I'm willing to bet that he's been told that as long as he lives in the US the issue of his taxpayer funded security will never be a priority and RAVEC will continue to kick the issue into the long grass. After all, some bloke who's 8,000 miles away is much easier to ignore than one who's living in the UK and generating weekly drama all over the news.

I don't doubt that H has missed the UK, his friends or that he wants his kids to go to a British public school. I also don't doubt that he's lonely and isolated in CA. But to get Meghan over here, somewhat willingly, there has to be a rock solid reason. Her life is in CA, 100% of it. Her home, business, mother, friends, celeb nonsense lifestyle - all there. She has no reason to come here or agree to live here except for three things that I can think of -

  1. To get their British taxpayer security reinstated, which is Harry's greatest wish and something he's made blatantly obvious. Not least because recently he's lost a very expensive court case, for which damages haven't yet been awarded, but they are likely to be sizeable, so having some other mugs to pick up the bill for their security would be useful. Plus, it signals their great selfimportance and appeals to H's well-developed paranoia;
  2. Royal adjacency, which is their only currency;
  3. To ditch Harry back in Blighty, before she fucks off back to CA on her own with the kids, leaving him here.

She doesn't have a career, a home or any friends here. His family can't stand her. The British public booed her last time they saw her and she is more unpopular than all the other members of the BRF apart from Prince Andrew, who is under investigation for fraud in public office and sex trafficking. In fact, I seem to remember some info leaked by her ever reliable friends who said she will never willingly set foot in the UK again, so ... what's she doing here?

AlexandraCarrington · 01/10/2026 17:55

Whether H could ever be a working royal again isn't just up to KC and PW. If he were to be seen as representing the Head of State and/or the country in any way, it becomes a constitutional issue, in which the King acts on the advice of his ministers.

I agree.

The level of operator here aren't the sort to be overswayed by such notions as emotional loyalty. The fact that Harry behaved horribly to Catherine wouldn't matter on an emotional level, but it would on a public perceptions level, for example.

But the courtiers are likely to consider all possibilities on the table - until the point is reached where the reconciliation with the useful idiot of the family is mixed because the idiot is clearly no longer even potentially useful.

To add, I'd imagine that William might have actually been more likely to hash it out, have a big blow up and work it out earlier in the process (pre-cancer). Sometimes it's easier to make up with someone whilst you're still fighting.

At this point, the Wales' life has moved on so much that I suspect they're done with it, and there isn't much of a Harry shaped hole in their lives that the Tindalls don't fit nicely anyway.

Really, the courtiers are not thinking straight. H is clearly a liability. He is unpredictable, angry and vengeful. He is at loggerheads with numerous state institutions - civil service, judiciary, not to mention the Royal family. He's trashed the Royal family. His public approval rating stands just above that of Prince Andrew. So either H has a friend at court - the newly arrived Theo Rycroft, who is said to be pro H? - and/or Charles wants there to be a reconciliation.

Quite. The opposite of love isn’t hate. It’s indifference. W and C seem indifferent to the never ending HAM saga.

It was supposedly about Invictus.

Maybe the Lord Chamberlain should copy his letter to NATO, the EU, the UN, and anyone else he can think of.

MrsLeonFarrell · 01/10/2026 18:19

Is there any evidence that the public are crying out for a 30 th anniversary event? Considering Diana's own brother managed to write more about himself than her and that the press concentrate on the stories that centered the King, i don't see enormous public interest in any commemoration. Diana is missed by her family but the country has moved on.

Even if William did go to a service with Harry that shows nothing except that William is mature enough to put aside personal feelings for a public event. It doesn't show reconciliation for them to be in the same place. That's nonsense.

Personally I believe William meant what he said when he said that the 20th documentary was his last word on the subject. I doubt he'll get involved in anything else. Harry will keep wanging on because Diana, and himself, is all he has to talk about.
