Remember the statement :

"We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace"

They gush more about other public figures. 🙄

Yes - they never use the appropriate titles for Royal Family members in statements. It's very obvious when you start to notice it.

It contrasts to Catherine talking to people a week or so in Bute, where she was clearly happily interacting but still giving due respect to Princess Anne:
'Yes, the Princess Royal comes sailing around here, doesn't she? She shows us her photographs.'

The Sussexes also never condemned (and continued to support) the Sussex squad, who were (and are) involved in the horrendous online campaign against Catherine.

This story is nothing to do with Harry though. It's Richard Eden's latest drivel.

So, who's supposed to be reconciling if it's not Harry?

IdaGlossop · 01/10/2026 16:21

BunnyBunbunbun · 01/10/2026 16:10

I would give absolutely no credence to Richard Eden's story.

I doubt that he has fabricated it. He has a tendency to build on comments he picks up and write about them as though they are concrete rather than speculative. Here, a courtier might have said: 'We could be ambitious and have a service of thanksgiving for the late Princess of Wales. Ideally, it would bring the brothers together.'

His 'project thaw, H is coming back' story had a grain of truth in it. There was a meeting between H and KCIII. H has come back to the UK. But he is not a working royal.

@bunnybunbun means, I think, that Harry is not the source of the story.

JuniperJumper · 01/10/2026 16:22

Genuine question ~

Why would there be any need to have a Thanksgiving Service for Diana?

We've never, to the best of my knowledge, had one for the Queen Mother and I wouldn't expect one for Queen Elizabeth ll or Prince Philip

Anniversaries of deaths tend to be privately commemorated by families. I believe HMQEll used to spend the day quietly at Sandringham to mark the passing of her father

Oh I see, thanks. Could be a tabloid fabrication, or wishful thinking.

fuschiaproudparrot · 01/10/2026 16:27

Meghan leading up to the launch of her calendar posting a video of her " Christmas in June " on her personal insta. The guy is the head of the chocolate company I believe. I'm thinking this adds credence to the fact that the move to the UK was last minute. Why would you buy something from a person who doesn't even live there now ? Where's the "authenticity" ? Thought she would be going for a chestnuts roasting over an open fire type image as opposed to the American type flavours .

There isn't a need. I expect courtiers have been having conversations about what might be done to mark 30 years. It's tricky, isn't it? Do nothing and Charles is branded heartless. Do anything worth doing and it stirs up the 'three people in this marriage' line.

bluegreygreen · 01/10/2026 16:30

Now, the King is said to have been approached with a way of celebrating the life of his ex-wife that would bring their sons together.
‘His Majesty has apparently “raised no objection” to a thanksgiving service [for Diana],’ my fellow Daily Mail columnist Ephraim Hardcastle revealed this week.

This part of the story did not come originally from Eden, and 'raised no objection' is not exactly a ringing endorsement by the King. It's not on the same level as 'warmly welcomed'.

A source I have since spoken to confirmed that the notion of a service including both brothers is being seriously considered.

Equally, we are not told exactly who is seriously considering this notion.

This casual 'Selfie in chocolate-coloured clothes' is very downbeat for a brand that seeks to be high-end. Jade Holland-Cooper is not my thing at all but she could teach Meghan a lot about how to front a luxury brand with a clear identity. Interesting that her children appear in her informal videos, face forward.

But the brothers said clearly at 20 years that they were not going to talk openly again about her - so no-one would be expecting something public at 30 years.

A comment from Kensington Palace that William prefered to remember his mother privately would be all that was needed.

That's really interesting but, to be honest, if I hadn't read about it on this thread I would be totally unaware that the 30 year anniversary is next year.

I can't imagine in 30 years time we will be having a public Thanksgiving Service for HMQEll so I don't see why there should be one for Diana

To me, it feels like it should be a private commemoration for those who knew & loved her and it should be their choice about how to remember her in private

They did say that but Eden's use of 'courtiers' suggests BuckingHAM Palace wants to do something. People may expect something because Charles hasn't said he won't do anything.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/10/2026 16:51

The longer all this nonsense goes on, the clearer it becomes to me that this move back to the UK was for one reason and one reason only - to force the issue of their security and do absolutely everything that can to get it reinstated

I get the point, @cheezncrackers, but if that was the case why wouldn't Harry say so - as in something like "This issue is so crucial that I need to be there to meet with the decision makers"?

It's not as if he's resisted gabbing about his security already, and at least it might have offered a cover for any other reasons

I wouldn't expect KC to do anything public ~ he can't very well turn up with Camilla and it would look strange if he went alone

And I really think that the views of Diana's sisters should be taken into account and, because they never talk publicly, I wouldn't imagine that they would want to be involved in a public event

Harry didn't put this story out. Richard Eden did. The "olive branch" reconcilation stories are always media garbage.

HoldMyWine · 01/10/2026 17:01

Until PH makes a public apology to KC, QC, PW and the PoW I can’t see there being any sort of reconciliation and I don’t blame them one bit.

A man meeting his son for an hour is hardly some kind of "Project Thaw". The fact that none of these "royal experts", including had an inkling Harry was returning, shows how little they actually know. Harry wanting to raise his kids British isn't a "Project Thaw" either.

I'm pretty sure that Richard Eden spins stories out of nothing and his "sources" have nothing to do with the Palace.

It's quite amazing that some people actually believe this stuff.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 01/10/2026 17:05

I'd believe Rebecca English before I'd believe Richard Eden and I haven't seen anything from her for a while.

I agree that 'project thaw' was a ridiculous story that has left Richard Eden with egg on his face. He built it up over weeks and it turned out to be a damp squib. For all its awfulness though, I don't believe the Daily Mail would risk, post-Leverson, publishing stories that are entirely fictitious.

No, there is no reason, at this stage it just looks like Harry being desperate for attention, and using their late mother to do so. How mercenary.

Oh, surely Harry wouldn’t do that , would he ?

Yes of course he would , the snivelling , entitled little rat.

Why would "courtiers" need to plan anything? Did the late Queen or the then Prince of Wales mark the one-year, 10-year or 20-year anniversaries of her death?

No one is expecting Charles to do anything for Diana, let alone some kind of service (where? who would be invited? Charles Spencer and her sisters?) and especially after the hullabaloo from Charles Spencer about how King Charles took over Diana's funeral and made it a big public event when he just wanted a small private funeral (which contradicts Spencer's claim that King Charles wanted people to forget Diana, but that's another story).

And the idea that "courtiers" want to try and get William and Harry to reconcile by having William give a reading at this service? Sorry, but that is made-up rubbish. I'm pretty sure that courtiers know William far better than to try to get him to do that, especially to reconcile with Harry.

Aren't "courtiers" the nasty men in grey suits who pushed poor Harry and Meghan out? Now they want him back?
