Was King Charles wrong to take a rose from Charles Spencer's bouquet?

Charles Spencer says as Diana's coffin was lowered into the ground, several people there dropped flowers on the coffin. King Charles took a rose from Charles Spencers bouquet and dropped it on Diana's coffin.

This struck me as it shows a very casual disregard for other people's feelings. This was Charles Spencers flowers, but without a thought, king Charles took mine of the flowers. And remember relationships were extremely strained between the two men.

Sometimes I think the smallest incidents like this can reveal someone's true character. It's like someone being rude to a waiter. The king just acts like no one else matters except what he wants.

One of the reports you linked to said that Frances had packed the bag when she had been told Diana was injured. She was planning to go to Paris to be by her side in hospital. She didn’t pack to go and identify the body or repatriate it.

She said she assumed she was going to Paris.
it is in one of the links I posted. You lied.

"biography, written with Kydd’s cooperation, she says Buckingham Palace informed her that not only would she not be allowed to go to Paris to accompany her daughter’s body home, but she would not be permitted to see her one final time."

Can I just add ! , I’m not saying that Diana’s body was not fit to be seen, none of us know, however I was simply pointing out that there are many reasons that her mother might have been advised not to view her ….none of which are petty or Charles being nasty.
now this nugget is being called into question, and we now know about a lead lined coffin ( I’m assuming this is fact ) , perhaps op could move on from the topic.

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · Today 13:36

In her 2003 book she never said it was the palace

In 2002 she described it even more precisely:
“I do remember being very surprised and rather hurt that I was not consulted about collecting her body or asked to go to Paris to do so.”
She said this meant she never saw Diana after she had died, something she found particularly painful as a Catholic.

This is from the Irish times

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · Today 13:37

I’d go with the Irish times over the New York Post myself

Don't take this the wrong way @OneLilacHedgehog but I'm going to have to take your insight into the condition of bodies/faces post embalming when compared to in life with a slight hesitation/concern given yesterday you were unable to tell that two photos with a white haired, anoracked 95yr old lady were the same person albeit in one photo she'd turned her head sideways

I beg your pardon?

If I posted erroneously, then it would be ok to say that. ‘You lied’ is just rude, and potentially lying yourself, in the absence of evidence of my motivation.

Why so defensive, what does this all mean to you?

If you read the post of mine you are quoting, you will see I speak about why Frances packed, not whether she alleged the palace prevented her from denoting and repatriating the body.

In my previous post I acknowledged to you that the NYPost article did claim that the Queen/the palace prevented her from going. As I said in that post, it did NOT say that Charles stopped her, which you seem so desperate to allege. Furthermore, the NYPost isn’t viewed as a credible source.

Again, why are you so desperate to paint Charles as the villain that you are getting annoyed and rude when posters point out the flaws in your evidence?

It was not Charles decision to make.
Being advised is very different to being told you can't see her own daughter's body.
We have now established as fact via my links that Dianas face was fine, the trauma was internal. Diana was in a lead lined coffin which slows decomposition. She was flown back to the UK after having been embalmed the same day she died. Her mother could have viewed her body within 48 hours of her death. Unless the embalming was very poorly carried out she would have been fine to view.

I’ve used France’s own words, you’ve used the NY posts interpretation of those words.

As a legal eagle yourself which is considered more credible ?

(edited for grammar)

OneLilacHedgehog · Today 13:42

@BunfightBetty not what you claimed. But you do accept the palace stopped Frances from viewing her daughter's body and going on the flight to Paris?

And you do accept king Charles was the one coordinating Diana's funeral arrangements including organising the flight to fetch Diana's body and contacting Diana's sisters to invite them along?

She died 29 years ago
if all this was such a huge deal, why wait until now to kick off about it all?

I think she was ‘stopped from seeing her dead son’ and somehow you’ve conflated the two.

No she would not be permitted

That means the same as stopped.

With all due respect you don’t know anything about this , you are simply stating your opinions as fact and it doesn’t matter how many times you say the same thing it won’t make it true.
can I also ask why you started a thread about one topic and have now started on a completely different one?
you also have not returned to your other thread about the unfortunate picture, have you decided to ask for that to be removed for the sake of the poor vulnerable woman?

I accept that France’s is reported to have said that some years after the event. In a less than credible source.

That’s as far as it goes.

As for Charles arranging the funeral, he won’t have been arranging the nuts and bolts of it. There would have been many people involved in that. With somebody senior in the total household in overall charge. We don’t know for sure if Frances did ask to see the body and, if so, who had knowledge of that request and gave an answer.

The link to the NYPost article you provided says she claimed that the Queen and the Palace were the deniers. However she made this claim several years after the event and we have no way of knowing if it’s true or not.

Now, with your paralegal hat on, how watertight would all that be in a court?

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · Today 13:56

no,

I quoted France’s Kyds own words, you used a NYpost interpretation of words without the actual quote in the article regarding Diana

KCitsweyourHammiewevecomehomenow · Today 14:00

Diana own private secretary didn’t notify anyone of Shand Kyds need to be involved. He was Diana’s employee employed by her with an allowance from the palace.

Maybe they were respecting Diana’s wishes, seeing as they were estranged.

the Spencer family are a bit like the pot calling the kettle black.

Diana’s mother publicly rejoiced when her HRH title was removed & criticised her relationships with Muslim men. tbh she sounds pretty toxic, but like her son.

Should have added that Charles was there on behalf of his sons, who were Diana’s next of kin, but minors. Diana’s sisters were also there and could have invited their mother or asked her to be invited.

Frances and Diana were not speaking at the time of her death, so it may have been felt Diana wouldn’t have wanted her there. Or they may have wanted to spare her the heartache of the journey. Frances herself may have felt guilty about not being on speaking terms with her daughter when she died and may have felt guilty about not asking to go to Paris. We will never know, I guess. But all of those - speculation as they are - are no less credible than Charles deliberately denying Frances sight of Diana’s body for cruel and nefarious Reasons.

OneLilacHedgehog · Today 14:04

King Charles did phone Charles Spencer about the nuts and bolts of the funeral. King Charles did argue with Elizabeth to get the royal flight used to transport Diana's body back.
King Charles did phone Diana's sisters to ask them to come on the royal flight.

Of course staff will have phoned whoever organises the pilot and taxis to be there. And to organise Diana's body to be ready for transporting. But Charles did personally make a lot of the initial phone calls.

The actual nuts and bolts the funeral used an existing funeral plan for another royal. But how the family were involved did seem to come from Charles. And Charles Spencer complained the family were excluded from the arrangements and just expected to fall in line with what was planned.
