Was King Charles wrong to take a rose from Charles Spencer's bouquet?

Charles Spencer says as Diana's coffin was lowered into the ground, several people there dropped flowers on the coffin. King Charles took a rose from Charles Spencers bouquet and dropped it on Diana's coffin.

This struck me as it shows a very casual disregard for other people's feelings. This was Charles Spencers flowers, but without a thought, king Charles took mine of the flowers. And remember relationships were extremely strained between the two men.

Sometimes I think the smallest incidents like this can reveal someone's true character. It's like someone being rude to a waiter. The king just acts like no one else matters except what he wants.

Good grief. It would have been a bit of a non-event at the time, let alone holding a grievance about it 30 years later.

We are now in the territory of a grudge towards your sister because she took the last piece of cake 30 years ago!

I'm beginning to wonder if you're working for the publishers with how many threads you've made on the subject, all in support of Charles S I've noted.

If this is the level of pettiness in the book and the most interesting accusations I can't imagine the sales will be high.

I agree this is marketing crap

I know what happens during embalming. Diana's mother was not asking to see the embalming process. She wanted to see her daughter's body.

I have personally viewed seven bodies of loved ones after embalming. They all looked the same as when alive or actually healthier than before death. My grandmother in particular looked like she looked before she became ill.

It's actually traditional in my birth family to have viewings of the deceased in a chapel in the hour before the funeral. A fact my husband finds strange. So I have perhaps seen more embalmed bodies of loved ones than most members of the public.

My family always use the co-op and they always embalm the bodies well. I am assuming Diana's embalming would have been done well.

Well funny enough my best friend works in the co op , she organises funerals, works in the morgue and “prepares “ loved ones , I have been lucky enough to be involved and assist on many occasions ( as a bystander obviously) , knowing isn’t the same as seeing or attending the process.
so I’m afraid I place very little faith in your expertise.

Seems that anyone who criticise the royal family has a faulty recollections or are emotional, isn’t that gaslighting?

gishgalloping · Today 12:56

None of those links says that Charles refused to allow her to see the body. One says Buckingham Palace wouldn’t allow it but doesn’t specify who, the others don’t say at all.

You’ve stated over and over that Charles refused to allow Diana’s mother to se her body. Please provide something more substantive to prove this or some people might think you’re making it up as you go.

Lol, I didn't say I was an expert on embalming process. I said I have seen many embalmed bodies as have my family members. And all looked healthy or even healthier than before their death. I mentioned the co-op to demonstrate my family don't use some fancy mysterious embalmers, just a high street chain.

Most surgical processes like hip replacement surgery are brutal to actually see. But the end result does not look brutal.

I thought lead lined coffins were sealed and couldn't be opened.

Anyway, another day another thread by this particular OP.....

Diana had a sealed lead lining to her coffin. Was that a separate layer? I guess, if she had been sealed into the lead before Mrs Shand-Kydd asked for a viewing, it was not unreasonable to say no because that layer would presumably have to be entirely re-done?

Yes it can. Lead lined coffins are soldered shut, so opening them is more complicated, but they can be opened.

I have seen a few dead bodies and faces but I don't think any were embalmed. They all vary, don't they? It depends on how long the person's been dead and what they died of.
There is a vast difference between someone not being asked if they want to see a body and that fact being slewed round and turned into someone being forbidden from seeing a body.
There is also a vast difference between a man saying that walking behind his mother's coffin at twelve years of age is something that no child should ever have to do, and people deliberately or accidentally paying no heed whatsover to those words and saying that the child was MADE or FORCED to walk behind the coffin. Maybe forced by the circumstance rather than by any person.
The world's got it's fair share of 'won't pay attention to the words and will craftily alter them as much as possible'.

So you have seen 7 then ! And feel confident to dismiss others because of this!! 🤣🤣
do you think that i didn’t see the after , if I had been involved in the before and during?
as I said to you previously, assuming that others on mn have no knowledge or experience in many things is not wise.

OneLilacHedgehog · Today 13:04

@damemaggiescurledupperlip the coffin is soldered shut. It can be opened and resoldered.
A lead coffin slows decomposition.

An expert in legal issues and embalming, how lucky we are

Really? , I happen to know and have watched the full process, I have personal experience of this process and if it would not upset most people here would give you a full rundown of what happens to the body!
but to keep it pc ….I will be vague….diana was in a car crash….she then had an autopsy ( I’m assuming you know what happens during this process) ….due to the heat ( which hastens decomposition) she was apparently embalmed….this involves removing all body fluids and replacing them …..the cavities will be padded because the body starts to collapse….the face also becomes sunken and needs padding….achieving a natural look and original shape is often difficult….any wounds stop bleeding but won’t heal ….the results can often end up looking like a waxwork.
you naturally assume the worst of Charles…because reasons ….however has it actually occurred to you that after Charles and Diana’s sister’s viewed her ( and contemporary accounts say they were all shaken afterwards) , they were actually doing a kindness? And that her mother could have actually insisted and her wishes would have been honoured!

Thank you, I didn't know that.
Good points.

I am not denying that a poor embalming can leave someone not looking like themselves. I have never denied that. I have also heard of people viewing bodies after several weeks and the face did not look right.

But Diana was flown to the UK within hours of her embalming. There were five 24 hour days before her burial. And I have assumed her embalming would have been done properly. So she should have looked fine.

Her mother could have viewed Diana within 48 hours of her daughter's death.

Ooh nasty.
I am a paralegal on criminal cases. I am sorry if my legal knowledge means that I knew some posters were spouting rubbish.

I never claimed to be an expert on embalming. I have seen seven embalmed bodies all looked healthy and well. My friend looked as if she was just lying down. My grandmother looked like she looked before she became ill.

Those personally I know who have not been happy when viewing a loved on, viewed them after two weeks, or in one case the embalmer did a very poor job.
