Something that stands out to me is Diana referring to the royals as “the Germans”. I’ve read it in multiple places over decades, so assume there is some truth to it. Diana though was no intellectual. I doubt she thought of it, so it is more likely to be a long-standing Spencer joke, and who knows, one used by other aristocratic families to feel superior.

We’ve mused about H&M having a fantasy in which C&W are set aside and Harry, the true heir, not the spare is called upon by a grateful public. I guess that’s where all those substances get you.

But taking those imaginings to yet another level, what if CS has an even madder master plan to become King himself, and the book is merely step one?

The book Charles Spencer has written about Diana and Charles marriage is called Swan Song.

Meghan added a Swan emoji it’s a totally irrelevant text, it’s another one of her cryptic messages, clearly showing her and Harry’s alliance and support for CS book.

Edited

Omg! I am so thick. Thank you! What a nasty thing for M to do, basically endorsing a book which is trashing her FIL.

I am just trying to imagine Harry's performance now had he not been allowed to take part!

When the decision was made for it not to be a private funeral it was always going to be a spectacle along royal line, I would have thought.

Given the state of the mass mourning around the world I don't know how they could possibly have had a private funeral. Some small service in whatever the local church to Althorp is, followed by the burial on the island with a total news blackout and no TV etc? I think there would have been outrage with fans beating down the gates of Althorp.

I think one of the things about the boys walking behind the coffin was it was such a long way. Why on earth didn't they have the group picking up a bit closer to the Abbey. Maybe at Buckingham Palace, or closer still at Whitehall or somewhere. I don't think anyone would have thought anything wrong with that.

That’s fascinating, I looked it up because I found it hard to believe they can be hired privately and it’s true

“Yes, you can hire the Band of the Irish Guards (or small ensembles from it) for private and commercial events, provided the booking does not conflict with their official royal and state duties”

Invictus have a lot to answer for !

Did they really just hire the band? Hilarious 🤣

It was acceptable at the time. Children, especially older children, always participated in funerals.

😃 clearly, I was a bit sceptical of @JoanChitty comment, (sorry Joan) so looked it up.

It makes total sense as no one could understand why they were there, what an embarrassment Harry is.

elessar · 20/09/2026 10:25

HAM have firmly aligned themselves with CS which seems very shortsighted given that they seemed to be angling to get back in with the King and the RF.

Apart from M’s swan emoji, their silence on the subject is deafening given they clap back and respond to every tiny perceived slight.

nobody expects William to comment because he never does. HaM certainly would if they wanted to distance themselves. So evidently they don’t.

I hope the rumour that they’ll bugger back off to the US if they don’t get full police protection is correct. I hope RAVEC tell them to bugger off, and they do another flounce. I don’t want either of them here and I don’t want my taxes to go towards funding that pair of entitled arseholes in any possible way.

Every time I think my opinion of them couldn’t possibly get any lower they sink to a new bottom. They’re objectively terrible people.

Morning all, I’m finally caught up again. (I’ve had a dramatic weekend thus far re health, but all good now and I’m home again, with DP to look after me. The paramedics and A&E staff were wonderfully kind.)

I’ve also reported certain posts for being far removed from the spirit of the site and social media guidance. The point being made about H’s potential psychological fracturing isn’t even new - and should of course have been kept as a general observation.

I’m sorry to hear that autumn ! , I hope you are ok and recovering well ❤️❤️

Yes but it doesn't normally involve a highly public 3.5 mile walk.
It's a long way. Even aside from the funeral, I always find a walk in London more tiring than a walk in the country, I just looked at the map and thought that's a hell of a walk from Kensington Palace, to Westminster Abbey.
Apparently (according to AI, I haven't researched beyond that it was originally planned for one mile and then extended. They could have had the funeral party join at the one mile to go mark. I wonder whose idea it was to extend it. I'm thinking Tony Blair/Alistair Campbell.

Harry does seem to get dragged into other people's plans fairly often. I suspect he thinks this is bolstering his status as Diana's son. Charles S is simply using Harry in his grudge.

This shows how easily Harry is led, usually by people who don’t have his best interests at heart. Sadly for him, the MiGS did and he didn’t like it.

Well, it's done now, isn't it? We're 29 years on.
As pp have said, if they hadn't been allowed to walk, Harry would be bleating about that.

Well reading the comments in the DM it’s not going well for Uncle Charly.

Or anywhere tbh.

He's coming in for a shit ton of criticism on Tiktok and TwiX as well as other media.

He does have support obviously, but it's pretty obvious - his main support seems to be coming from Americans - who still seem totally onboard with the Saint Diana who woz murdered myth. It's quite tawdry to see the responses - because all that's happening is Diana's affairs and bad decisions being spoken about over and over.

Larretin · 20/09/2026 10:34

The Swan emoji is sly and also cowardly. M is trying to signal support for the book, but with plausible deniability. Trying to have it both ways... as ever. She loves to insinuate things, but leave the way clear for her to backtrack if it suits her.

But also: how very, very bizarre it is to plonk a swan emoji onto that post. It's a random post about selling bundles of groceries. Weird to put a swan on it, if there was no subtext. Actually even weirder to put a swan on it when there IS subtext. It's not a post about family, love, or countryside walks (wouldn't it have been easy to put together another 'English outdoor life' video, and shove some swan footage into it?). No, it's just, "I'm selling these groceries, and here's a swan because my uncle-in-law has written a book about my mother-in-law."

I guess the common theme is that they're both selling crap for a profit.

Thedom · 20/09/2026 10:43

I guess their PR disasters are keeping them firmly in the bottom ranks of the popularity stakes, aligning themselves with CS won’t help.

Haven't caught up with all the posts but If Rachel's adding a swan emoji to her snaps it ties in with the reports I've seen today that CS is now equating HaM's treatment at the hands of the press with the way Diana was treated.

Hmm.

So it appears the spiteful, abusive CS has joined forces with dim Harry and the proven liar and bully MM. Quelle surprise! Birds of a feather etc.
Also according to Neil Sean ,the reason why the Irish Guards were at that Invictus gig is that you can hire them! Still it’s all about the optics. Look, it’s Royally endorsed….

So this would indicate the Irish Guards were deliberately hired as a giant F You to the Princess of Wales.

I really do wish the gruesome twosome could see themselves at times.

Did HAM think this would boost their popularity whilst undermining the RF meaning the RF were forced to take them back as saviours of the RF?

They thought; we'll get a share of the money, it'll make us look like victims again, it'll make KC look bad.
End of thought process.

Did they really just hire the band? Hilarious 🤣

Hiring forces bands/personnel for events has gone on for years.

Without knowing the fine detail I still wouldn't assume Invictus got a choice of which band they got on the night, but if they did deliberately choose the Irish Guards to put a finger up they've done themselves no favours.

OhNoooooooooooooooo · 20/09/2026 07:38

Quite. Spencer is sounding more desperate and toddler like every day.

Now trying to say HAM are being treated the way Diana was... Ridiculous! Just because the press aren't going "ohhh cheeky chappy Hazza looking fab at awards ceremony" or "Haz's bantz with teens in a school"

And they haven't seemingly had press chasing them down, or sneaking in bushes trying to get pics of Archie and Lili etc.

It's like a toddler tantrum to try and get attention

And like Diana they tip off the press photographers on every move, leak stories and pose up a storm. Hams like Diana very manipulative. They should be careful what they wish for.

WilliamsExtraSausage · 20/09/2026 10:58

The ex wives are keeping a dignified silence, probably because they have the intelligence to realise that CS is the father of their children so they would only be hurting their children. Do Ham not care that by aligning themselves with the man who is hurting their grandfather, they are hurting them? Again? As ever?

ConnectFortyFour · 20/09/2026 10:59

For those questioning the length of the walk, the family including the boys only walked a short distance not the whole route. I was on the route on the day and saw the coffin pass but not the family. I was really confused later when I saw pictures of the family as I couldn’t understand when they had joined
