Here is the write up from the Birmingham Mail. The photo of Harry looks like my gay pub landlord.

Wise words ????

The King holds the title Seigneur of the Swans and is the owner of all unmarked wild mute swans.

He's a self confessed drug user. I'm baffled he'd be allowed a school visit

It's clear that in his RF days there was probably a team of aides, footmen and valets that made sure he at least arrived at his engagements sober. Now there's no team and he just falls out of bed and throws on whatever is on the floor from the previous day.

She's just being nasty and stirring.

She knows exactly what she is doing. Does she not understand that her so obviously siding with CS could jeopardise any relationship her children have with extended family? The Markle side excluded of course as they have no value

With Harry it's all about a performance. Doing the "down with the kidz" class clown routine worked very well for him 15-20 years ago. It focussed the media attention on him, while it also absolved him from actually having to learn stuff for the engagement - a huge contrast to William and Catherine who sit down and chat knowledgeably to the people they meet.

He hasn't moved on from the "all lads together" banter from his 20s. But society has moved on from the "lads and ladette" trend of the early 2000s - and schools are less tolerant of stupid behaviour as well, hence the kids looking around nervously. Now Harry's in his 40s it comes across more of a try-too-hard, cringey uncle. But he doesn't understand this.

William does understand this - and leans into it. He often lets things slip about embarrassing the kids. William is a grown up and know he's a dad in his 40s whereas Harry is still playing Peter Pan.

Oh goodness, he isn't 20 anymore. To those kids he is firmly in embarrassing Dad territory.

Meghan using the swan emoji on that post is very telling indeed - I try not to use sweeping judgements, but what a cow!

It definitely has nothing even remotely connected to her brand, unless she’s planning to add something like swan pie to her new UK range - which wouldn’t surprise me given the amount of research she seems to put into most of her endeavours 😂

I don't think you are allowed to make Swan Pie, don't the swans belong to the King? Although that is the sort of information that would encourage her..!!

Yes and no ! , if it’s like my children’s school you receive a consent form at the beginning of each term asking if you consent for your children’s image to be used for school purposes and activities…my daughter was on the cover of the school prospective for example…I had no idea until I was waiting in the foyer to pick her up once, so they may have given consent for school purposes but not this …..or yes they may have been asked separately for this occasion…..we don’t really know.

Legislation has recently changed. You not just have to get permission to film or take photos before the event. You have to also get permission for the precise film or photo used for the precise platform you are using it.
It's a bit of a nightmare for a group I'm in where we have children involved and need to do publicity. Everyphoto going out of social media has to be checked for no kids or permission sought for that particular photo.

I was in a safeguarding meeting only a couple of weeks ago to discuss the changes and what it means.

Meg using the Swan emoji. Subtle.

Aka all your pantry favourites which are rapidly reaching their BBE date and need to be repackaged in the vain hope people won't realise it's the same stuff in different cardboard.

As a former military man he should be decently dressed and behave appropriately. It seems all his training has deserted him completely.

I guess no one reminded him/laid suitable clothes out.

He's been moving in Cali circles where he didn't fit in (not talented enough) but has lost any polish that he would have had from Royal life and Sandhurst so won't fit back into the UK.

I really can't see them lasting here, the weather has already turned cooler, which M will hate and she will have to endure it whilst watching W&C perform genuine Royal engagements. The interest they generate isn't based on likeability, more "what are the idiots up to now"

Spencer will be persona no grata so if they align with him they will fade even more. The Swan emoji is nasty.

Not all of them. Abbotsbury Swannery get to own theirs.

It's all so weird.

He flounced out in a fit of dudgeon, made books and podcasts and 'documentaries' and interviews and what have you saying how miserable royal life was, and now 7 years later here he is, back doing a bargain basement version of the life he found freedom from.

If he wanted to visit schools in Birmingham or attend charity 'engagements' why on earth did he leave? At least as a working royal he'd have had a top notch support system, the security he so craves, and could even call himself HRH. Epic fail, as the kids he's so desperate to impress might say.

I think he has finally recognised that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.

That's true. But as the saying goes, you can't go home again.

A lot has changed in the past 7 years. Harry can't just wind the clock back and pretend none of it happened.

I actually think that's what he's trying to do.
He was obviously very unhappy in the USA, and wants to replicate happier times. I'd feel a bit sad for him, but it's his own fault.

It seems to me that it's William who is far more of a rebel than Harry.

William took his time and married a non-aristo. He refuses to wear a kilt and dislikes 'dressing up' in general. He's taking capital from the Duchy of Cornwall to fund public-facing projects. He's been explicit that things will change when he's king. He is openly affectionate with his children in public. He's not afraid to be 'one of the lads' except he's not). He keeps his own counsel. He prioritises his children and family life over Royal duties. He's interested in concepts like servant leadership. He lives according to a set of moral values he's worked out for himself.

Harry is merely one of a long train of entitled, emotionally incontinent Royal men with dubious interests who don't know how to behave, most recently Andrew and Edward VIII.

I couldn’t like this post more if I tried.

Meghan using that swan emoji shows she really is an utter sly bitch isn’t she.
She will KNOW how much Spencer’s lies words hurt The King & William & Diana’s British Grandchildren -but she doesn’t care.
She and Harry should wear the biggest hypocrite hats going though as they would snatch any money The King or William offered.
Really they and Spencer make a dispicable trio.
I feel desperately sorry for William and wouldn’t swap places with him for all the cream scones in Cornwall (see what I did there! 😉)

JSMill · 19/09/2026 17:32

Exactly. In the early years of ‘Megxit’, you would hear lots of people defend them, but most people just think they are idiots now.

I beat a hasty retreat from another Royal thread yesterday ( about the book ) but it looked like H and M still have a lot of supporters ! Why ??

jeffgoldblum · 19/09/2026 17:39

I think as national service all tv channels should play the Oprah interview and the Netflix series on repeat just to remind Harry and others of what they said.

You are very kind. The idea occurred to me reading this thread. I'm pleased it resonated. Earlier, I was thinking how that extreme wealth is no compensation for having salacious details about your private life discussed by all and sundry.

I have a silly habit of refusing to watch royal weddings live as an anti-monarchy protest. Then I capitulate and watch a recording in the evening. The HAM wedding is the only royal wedding that has really moved me. I feel a complete fool now, because for M it was all an act and I didn't spot it.

If you compare it to how it was a few years ago, there are very few supporters. 2 or 3 years ago these threads would have been full of 'back and forth' but now pretty much everyone just makes fun of the Sussexes. They do have a few hardcore fans, but I wonder if that's some form of 'sunk cost fallacy'? They're in so deep they feel they might as well go down with their heroes?

7 years ago they had a lot of fans who thought they were a good way of 'sticking it to the royals'. But over the years it's become obvious that they were never opposed to the institution of monarchy, it was all just petty personal grievances. And the Great Return totally pulled the rug out from under the Sussex fan boys and girls. That's why even the hardcore Celebitchy types are starting to ask questions, particularly of Harry. But it's a bit late now.

Bunionbabe · 19/09/2026 17:45

Meghan could be referencing the Danny Kaye Ugly Duckling song theme (Google the lyrics). It's about transformation. Or, she sees herself as Odette/Odiile in the Swan Lake story. But, prob a bit too subtle.
