Is there any more to be said. I expect there probably is. So I started a new thread. Be interesting to see what their next move is. It's like a game of chess A we getting clarification. I want to know if they'll be doing walkabouts, hospital visits, and so on. Being greeted by dignitaries at home and overseas like they were on their visit to NY and Australia.

I think they will flounce again by next summer.

Poss use the excuse the Hamlets didn't settle at school here.

Not sure where they could try next though.

Portugal?

But it's akin to a teacher having to reiterate a warning or instruction - we might find nothing new in this declaration, but clearly H & M needed it repeating. They've been flouting the agreement in the US and BP maintained a dignified silence, but since they're back in the UK they need to be told!

And now it's there for everyone to read, not just H & M after the Sandringham Summit.

That's exactly it.

And as for the suggestion of "So far...", I doubt the King is going to engage in the sort of public bickering HAM stoop to.

The communication has opened the door to governments, charities and organisations having dealings with HAM to check things out with Buckingham Palace. That, and their reputation - everything's a drama, changing their minds, making demands - suggest that they are unlikely to be able to create the public roles they had envisaged. It comes down to a simple calculation - why risk alienating the establishment royals to align with those who chose to leave?

They can be private citizens in the constitutional / official sense while remaining anything but ‘ordinary’ in terms of public profile , media attention and commercial value

True, but now their worth will depend more on their own intrinsic qualities and interests/enthusiasms rather on external status.

It will be a test of what they, as individuals, have to offer the market. I think they're odd, shallow people with no real evidence of genuine interests or passions (unlike Camilla's literacy mission, Charles's environmental work etc) and this might be an obstacle to them making an impact as individuals.

Really? AFAIK, Invictus Games is still going strong and making an impact?

cheezncrackers · 09/09/2026 11:27

I think the point is that they've been cosplaying at still being working royals in numerous other places (Nigeria, Colombia, Jamaica, Australia), and getting away with it, because KC has no say in who other governments invite to visit their countries, nor about how they earn money and conduct themselves outside the UK. But here in the UK, where the RF lives and works, he does, and if they think they can bring their cosplaying show here and parade around as working royals without any of the rules and restrictions that govern the rest of the RF, they can think again.

I'm honestly amazed that she's here at all - for so many reasons. Harry, I can understand. He probably thinks he can turn the clock back 6 years and pretend those years didn't happen.

But what's in it for Meghan? I have no idea, and I wonder how he persuaded her.

I can only imagine she is giving him custody of the kids but is waiting for them to get settled before she sets herself free. I can't think of any other reason

I suspect he's been utterly miserable living in CA. I mean, I'd be like a pig in shit - I'd bloody love to live in a mansion in gorgeous Montecito and not have to work for a living😆but old Hazbeen, by all accounts, was really socially isolated and that must've been pretty shit to live with.

Quite simply, he will have had absolutely nothing in common with anyone he met, no one would've known how to relate to him or chat with him. The rarified circles that Harry is used to mixing in, the posh boys clubs and the puerile, public school sense of humour that he's known to have, all will have baffled the rich folk of Montecito. This is a guy who shoots pheasants for fun, who spent his summer holidays yomping through the heather on a Scottish estate, who's had staff bowing and scraping to him since he was a toddler. How is someone like that supposed to live a normal life and be happy with it? The palm trees and ocean views alone would keep me in a state of perpetual bliss, but not our Hazza.

Honestly - neither can I, and I don’t say that with relish. I don’t want the children to have to deal with a marriage breakdown as well as having to move countries and schools.

What has that got to do with the Sussexes making a living?

CoffeeCantata · 09/09/2026 11:45

@cheezncrackers

He is the dimmest idiot and entirely the author of his own disasters. He’s just incapable of seeing the implications of any of his actions.

KC can’t control celebrity culture though. Just like Katie Price, Love Island celebrities, the Beckhams, etc are “ordinary citizens”, yet are plastered all over the Daily Mail website and people treat them differently in public/they are given celebrity treatment. And they get opportunities like interviews on the cover of OK Magazine, etc. Controlling celebrity culture is outside of the remit of the royal household.

I absolutely agree with you and that’s all up for grabs / grasping / grifting by H&M - and good luck to them earning a crust in that area.

What KC3 was bringing was some granularity to any grey areas that H&M have attempted to muddy - very specifically with reference to public funds.

Its crystal clear now that the NHS, charities etc should not feel coerced / obligated by H&M’s ‘status’ to divert finite and scarce public resources - time, planning, logistics, costs, people, disruption etc to indulge H&M public activities / engagements
whether charity or not.

The biggest scandal coming down the track would be H&M faux royal visits to X NHS hospitals cost £millions of finite public funds and pushed the waiting list back X days due to cancelled appointments/surgeries. And the police presence demanded by H&M for such visit took bobbies off the streets which resulted in X number of crimes that day in the local area.

He’s not going to let that happen. Crystal clear directions given. No room for manipulation, pulling rank, exploiting public money to line their own pockets

I don't think she's giving him custody of the kids. I think this move is all about their desperation. Nothing has worked out the way they (and for 'they' read 'she') wanted in the US. They were supposed to be huge stars by now, commissioning and producing content, making tons of money, feted and loved wherever they went, etc, but it's all gone to shit. I reckon this is the very last thing she wanted, but she's run out of reasons for saying 'No'. As for her flying in and out, maybe she will, but it's not because her business can't do without her - her business is dead in the water.

Those children have been dealt a bad hand, for all their material privilege. Harry does look as though he'd be a great dad, if his public interactions with kids are anything to go by. If Meghan returns to the US and leaves the children here (big if, I know), there is the possibility that a stable life could be created for them here. Harry and Meghan really do bring out the worst in each other.

You cited Invictus as an example. And the pp had spoken about their commercial worth. But if you meant that as an example of their commitment and passion I don’t think it works either. Yes Harry helped to set it up (he certainly didn’t do it on his own) and was installed as its patron, but since then, all he has seemed to do is hang on its coat tails. He isn’t involved in the day to day running and takes no part in the many other things that Invictus does as a charity to help injured ex military. He and his wife only seem to be there for the publicity around the Invictus games. Not for any actual graft

ProfessorofDarkArts · 09/09/2026 12:19

I'm glad KC has put his foot down which is what I see the announcement as. This country has got much bigger things to worry about than pandering to the egos of this spoilt, entitled pair. I wish they would both just bugger off out of the public eye but as the comparisons with the late queen's uncle and his American wife feel spot on that seems unlikely.

Well yes, it’s nothing new. It’s the fact that it needed repeating that is being discussed. Not quite sure what your point is?

Of course it needed repeating. It’s obvious that organizations like the Mail have forgotten.

What evidence do you have to suggest that she has any intention of leaving her kids ?

In their relocation announcement they proactively stated that MM would be running her businesses from their international bases. A bit odd to feel the need to suggest that you would be away so much if it was just standard business trips? Assume it was to get ahead of any speculation of her MIA in the UK ? But seems to have backfired and inadvertently generated speculation.

Don't you know Meghan is the devil? There is a very specific demographic that her mere existence seems to irritate.

I can't get my head round their return unless it was somehow forced on them. Harry, yes - the silly, eternal teenage Hooray Henry that he is. But Meghan? That totally surprised me. It's well-known she's no fan of the UK.

Notsosweetcaroline · 09/09/2026 13:42

Every communication that comes out of the palace is an absolute and utter masterclass in how it’s done. This one slapped them firmly into place, reminded them of what they wished, and showed the royal family as totally in the power postion. The palace will say no more on the subject. It’s done. Harry can kick off all he wants, there will be nothing else said.

Harry and Megan will abhor the fact they’ve been called private citizens. It will go against everything Megan’s ambition is driving for. And put Harry in the position of he can’t help her achieve it.
