Is there any more to be said. I expect there probably is. So I started a new thread. Be interesting to see what their next move is. It's like a game of chess A we getting clarification. I want to know if they'll be doing walkabouts, hospital visits, and so on. Being greeted by dignitaries at home and overseas like they were on their visit to NY and Australia.

Surely those are the kinds of things the statement is intended to shut down.

Viviennemary · 08/09/2026 22:21

I don't disagree. But can they be stopped. That's the question. They're going to be a big headache that's for sure.

The courtiers really do know what they're doing when it comes to communications. They bide their time, choose their words carefully, maintain their dignity and emerge quietly triumphant.

The arrogance of Harry and Meghan, on the other hand, is breathtaking. They appear to have expected the right to review and comment on the Lord Chamberlain's message on behalf of the monarch before it was released. This looks particularly ham-fisted as the statement is largely a rehash of the Sandringham Summitv agreement, a document they have been familiar with for more than five years. And yet they are surprised by it!

Pretty much all avenues are now closed to them - military, charity, overseas tours, government-linked events - with all of them having an open invitation to check with Buckingham Palace if the Sussexes step out of line.

Next hurdle: security. I hope the threat level is low, for their sake and ours, so that the Sussexes are safe and the tax payer doesn't have to pay.

great post!

KC was 100% clear

They continue to show arrogance

HarrysToupee · 08/09/2026 23:19

The question I want to know is which one of them is going to put the bins out.

And stupidity. They appear to have learnt nothing. The mayhem on display in Montesh*t show has been brought to our shores and their antics have dominated the press and social media for the whole of the two weeks they have been here.

Interesting that they complain about having notice of the communication when they gave the King all of three days notice of their return.

twinklystar23 · 09/09/2026 07:12

I'm also interested to see if they will continue to use their HRH titles which (and as KC'S statement says, are put into abeyance) yet whilst in the US they continued to do just that. Now they are back in the UK I'm interested to see if a tougher line may be drawn, if they continue to use HRH.

I think they’ll struggle to use the HRH here, US know one really understood as royalty is a mystry

uk is a different matter

hope they just settle down in chipping norton and the media dies down

As an ex-teacher, I rolled my eyes! They are like the type of child who, when given a telling off or an instruction they don’t like, chats back, thinking they’ve got some sort of say in the matter.

I think the ‘surprise’ return has seriously annoyed KC. I bet he sees it as extreme discourtesy and disrespect to himself and also an example of their slyness and scheming - especially after he agreed tTo the Highgrove meeting.

This statement speaks of a running out of patience on his part, and understandably so.

AlwaysRightISwear · 09/09/2026 08:04

I think they will flounce again by next summer.

Poss use the excuse the Hamlets didn't settle at school here.

Not sure where they could try next though.

cheezncrackers · 09/09/2026 08:09

The lead story in the DM today is that HAM don't want to be known as private citizens, they want to be known as 'public figures'. They're pathetic - utterly pathetic. I'm sick of them already and they've been back here for two weeks. I really hoped that they'd just move to some big house in the countryside and Harry would take up with his old chums again and they'd STFU and live quietly, but of course they were never going to do that.

Charles had no choice but to issue this clarification of their status, role and titles going forward, because they are here to try and reclaim everything they rejected so loudly and unpleasantly over the past six years and then they will sell that lifestyle via Meghan's pathetic business. The faux royal tours were them testing the waters - could they get away with it? It seemed they could, because Charles said nada. So here they are, back in Blighty and ready to bring their faux show to the homeland, slap a label on it and market it. Well fuck them! Pair of fucking grifters - AS EVER.

I wouldn't worry, she'll fuck off back to California before you know it. Without him

If the position is that Harry and Meghan should now be treated as ordinary citizens , then surely that principle should be applied consistently
They may no longer be working royals but the press certainly hasn’t treated them like ‘ordinary citizens ‘ largely because stories about them generate enormous interest , clicks and revenue , which is not the case for the other senior royals
Everyone and their dog knows that the UK press will continue to write about this couple on a daily basis .

U53rName · 09/09/2026 09:57

KC can’t control celebrity culture though. Just like Katie Price, Love Island celebrities, the Beckhams, etc are “ordinary citizens”, yet are plastered all over the Daily Mail website and people treat them differently in public/they are given celebrity treatment. And they get opportunities like interviews on the cover of OK Magazine, etc. Controlling celebrity culture is outside of the remit of the royal household.

CurlewKate · 09/09/2026 10:01

Well, so far, we’ve had the King formally clarifying, for those that need clarification, H&M’s position. Nothing people didn’t know already.

Again, as has been pointed out several times, 'ordinary citizens' in this context simply means 'not holding any royal office'. In that sense Tom Holland or Harry Kane or any number of other British celebrities far more famous than them are 'ordinary citizens'.

The press can write about whatever and whoever they like within legal guidelines. And as these two actively court press attention, they can't really complain about it.

Well yes, it’s nothing new. It’s the fact that it needed repeating that is being discussed. Not quite sure what your point is?

chirrupybird · 09/09/2026 10:42

Charles hasn't ordered anything he just re-affirmed that Harry et al are still non working royals as agreed when they stepped down and went to the US. Nothing has changed because they have come back to the UK. I assume this was to pre-empt any accidental or deliberate assumption that they were now allowed to use the royal titles they had before and be treated as royalty.

Lampzade · 09/09/2026 10:50

It has been established since 2020 that the Sussexes no longer hold royal office or undertake royal duties
The King’s latest letter specifically reiterates that their position is ‘akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests ‘
That is a clarification of their status not merely a statement that they don’t have a royal job.
My point is about the distinction between institutional status and public media treatment
They can be private citizens in the constitutional / official sense while remaining anything but ‘ordinary’ in terms of public profile , media attention and commercial value

CoffeeCantata · 09/09/2026 10:58

True, but now their worth will depend more on their own intrinsic qualities and interests/enthusiasms rather on external status.

It will be a test of what they, as individuals, have to offer the market. I think they're odd, shallow people with no real evidence of genuine interests or passions (unlike Camilla's literacy mission, Charles's environmental work etc) and this might be an obstacle to them making an impact as individuals.

But it's akin to a teacher having to reiterate a warning or instruction - we might find nothing new in this declaration, but clearly H & M needed it repeating. They've been flouting the agreement in the US and BP maintained a dignified silence, but since they're back in the UK they need to be told!

And now it's there for everyone to read, not just H & M after the Sandringham Summit.

Commercial value to who? I would agree that they are a valuable commodity to the media in terms
of clicks, but if you mean their own intrinsic commercial value then I don’t think that is
of any great substance

I'm honestly amazed that she's here at all - for so many reasons. Harry, I can understand. He probably thinks he can turn the clock back 6 years and pretend those years didn't happen.

But what's in it for Meghan? I have no idea, and I wonder how he persuaded her.

I agree. I meant in terms of projects such as podcasts or shows. They have nothing to offer in that way, I don't think.

I can't think of any other outlets for their 'talents'. But yes, the media will make a fortune out of them.
