Is there any more to be said. I expect there probably is. So I started a new thread. Be interesting to see what their next move is. It's like a game of chess A we getting clarification. I want to know if they'll be doing walkabouts, hospital visits, and so on. Being greeted by dignitaries at home and overseas like they were on their visit to NY and Australia.

I just want to say - on a very serious note - that I remember that day with alarming clarity. I was overseas and I think my heart broke.

I remember holding my dear friend’s hand for hours and the silence and the disbelief. After a while we couldn’t even cry.

I’ve been witness to some terrible things in this world. The magnitude of that shook me to the core.

May the victims of that day and those who loved them have found some peace. 💔 ✨

So. To New York in case any of you are wondering what I’m wittering on about.

I thought the drones released for the victims of 9/11 were beautiful.

That is what public appearances and grief and celebration of people much missed should be about.

Solemn and loving and tears and laughter and remembering and hope and a determination to not ever see things like that again.

Not a photo opportunity and a frock.

From what I remember, the excuse was 'getting back to the children' - which for any regular parent is a reasonable one.

But the plan was for her to stay longer and I think there were (again) rumours that something had upset her - she hadn't had the reception she thought she deserved. I can't remember the details, but it was a change of plan and very sudden.

That rings a bell . As if she would rush back for A and L ….

Sounds feasible. H is going to have to find a lot of toys to throw out of the pram if and when the penny drops that W's wishes will always prevail over H's. W is going to be KING and H is going SPARE.

I suspect the situation may be because

1. even among the Diana fans, it's now a long time ago and people feel she should be decently allowed to rest in peace
2. There is a whole generation of people to whom she means nothing (this will be hard to Harry to grasp)
3. the Diana anniversary might be seen as being exploited by Charles Spencer and by the HAMs, while William somehow gets ignored.

My memory of 9/11 still disturbs me. I was at work with a desk in a bank of four, arranged in a square. That made chatting easy and I am easily distracted. That afternoon, one of the four took a call from a journalist friend. I was earwigging but saying to myself: 'Do not look up. Don't get distracted. Keep your head down.' And I did, for about 15 minutes. A record! Eventually, I looked up and saw everyone else on our floor making their way out. Soon, I found out what had happened in New York and that people were going to reception, where there was a TV.

By chance, my only visit to New York was in December 1999, a girls' pre-Christmas trip. We had gone to the bar on the 42nd floor of one of the twin towers. It was the one place in New York that we visited twice, because we liked it so much.
