King Charles orders Harry and Meghan to be treated like ordinary citizens

Apparently an order has gone out from King Charles saying that Harry and Meghan are to be treated like ordinary citizens as they are not working members of the royal family. That's according to the DM so it must be right. The thought of those two being pleased at being ordinary is too much.

I wonder just how low they will keep their profile and if it's to do with them wishing to be involved in charities. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to set up their own mock royal court.

This is what the letter is about. Harry and Meghan acting like working royals and wanting to be treated as such. King Charles has spellt it out and made it public. So he obviously thinks a reminder is necessary and so is making it clear.

I think that’s probably correct. They’ve clearly been trying ro postion themselves as working royals and wanting access to public money, otherwise he’d have no need to send this out.

its a very firm and clear message and desperately embarrassing for them

Oh it absolutely is spelling it out for the Markles.

As for plebs, speak for yourself, love.

@CoffeeCantata - you’re not going to be able to go out for weeks - in fact better down a few cups of black coffee as it might be a mistake going to sleep!

He needed to remind everyone that they're not working royals and don't represent the Crown. In spite of recent claims by Harry..

WitlessCheeseEatingPeasant · 07/09/2026 17:08

So long as they were in America he left them a long rope. Now that they are back in the United Kingdom they don’t get to cosplay working royals.

Humble Pie is a dish one shouldn’t attempt to serve unless they are also willing to have a big slice, too.

I don’t think it’s “nothing to see here” or merely clarification, at all.

It seems very pointed and has been sent to the great and the good and released to the general public. And it was sent to the Sussexes, not issued in collaboration with them.

We don’t know why the “proclamation” was made at this point or why it was deemed necessary to spell things out, but we can have several jolly good ideas why…

I agree. It's pretty much unprecedented.

And I know some posters are desperately trying to claim that this won't bother the Sussexes in the slightest. I disagree. It puts a spanner in any 'faux royal' shenanigans and also made clear that HRH is not to be used. I also liked the clarification re security, emphasising that it's nothing to do with the Palace.

I've always thought the idea that Charles is indulgent of these two to be way off the mark, and this confirms it.

Yes, if they just say "send the bill to BP" please ignore it.

It’s to scotch H&M trying it on.

Hmmmmm, I despise the DM, so a couple of questions from me!

Who has the order gone to?

Who is it that is supposed to be treating them like ordinary citizens?

Surely, if a charity wants to choose someone to be their patron or on their board of trustees, that is up to the charity? Is the absurd DM trying to suggest that the King has issued a decree to all the charities in the world to ask them not to have either Harry or Megan associated with them?

How would Harry & Megan set up a "royal court"? The "court" is the retinue surrounding the monarch - no one else. There isn't a Court of Prince William or a Court of Princess Anne!

Perhaps you should just read the announcement from King Charles

Yes 9t is, it’s been made public for a good reason, and has shut down all attempts for Harry and Megan to pretend to be working royals and politely reminded them this is what they wanted.

Be careful what you wish for, H&M.

MyDeftDuck · 07/09/2026 17:15

Oh well, if it’s in the DM then it must be correct 🤔……..the only thing completely true in any newspaper is the date and price printed on the front!

Yes, this is what I thought - just like the daily mail. They love to run down Harry and Meghan, even more so after the courts.

Hopefully if they are classed as 'ordinary citizens' they can start suing the daily mail for harassment.

Yeah coz that ended well for PH last time he did that!!!

I think he was indulgent to an extent, but they’ve done something that’s prompted this and forced him to act and very publicly. He’d have known the media storm. The fact he’s also said they can’t use their titles, says to me they tried to.

Viviennemary · 07/09/2026 17:16

They are already pretending to be working royals. Quote 'Prince Harry has announced his first public engagement.' A sky dive for a military charity. Do ordinary citizens have 'public engagements'. Not as far as I'm aware. Didn't take long.

They can use their titles in the same way that the York sisters use theirs. It doesn't mean they have any official status.

However, they cannot use HRH, which is the 'trademark' of royalty. That's what the Palace really care about.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 07/09/2026 17:18

It’s also implying they are not getting security paid for as Harry wanted. It’s an end to the idea that the King demands security for them. They are not working and they don’t get it. I’m amazed Meghan is here since it was totally unsafe for her a short while ago!

It's an official letter sent by the King to various government departments.

I really do not understand the amount of glee and pleasure that people take from the hope that these two will fail.

With the types that we have running countries, running newspapers, running Social Media and manipulating societies, running around with the Epstein's of this world, and so on - these two are the ones to take aim at? ??

When a hugely priviledge man chooses to become a private citizen, then is totally disloyal to his family and his country, and gives humiliating and self-pitying interviews to tv hosts, then a couple of years later wants to come back to the UK (which had apparently treated him unforgiveably) and be welcomed like the prodigal son, then he's bound to come in for a bit of stick.

Why is that hard to understand?

Did Prince Harry say it was a "public engagement" or did someone at a newspaper decide it was that?

Harry is free to announce an event for charity - that doesn't make it an official public engagement. Did he actually call it that?

I sweat to god, the press trying to make stories out of bugger all is going to be so annoying.

Didn't he tell Joe Marler he was a working royal and the "Prince of England" sic?
He's so very self important.

Did he, Christ, then yes they are trying to br working royals . It’s utterly tragic.

they were working royals. They took a knife to it. Said they’d never return to the uk, and now here they are trying to pretend to be working royals to rebuild their brand and reputation , as it’s all they can sell. Still trying to make money off of it.
