King Charles orders Harry and Meghan to be treated like ordinary citizens

Apparently an order has gone out from King Charles saying that Harry and Meghan are to be treated like ordinary citizens as they are not working members of the royal family. That's according to the DM so it must be right. The thought of those two being pleased at being ordinary is too much.

I wonder just how low they will keep their profile and if it's to do with them wishing to be involved in charities. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to set up their own mock royal court.

It always was. And harry and Meghan will carry on doing charity work and getting lots of media coverage.

I don’t think it was clear to them! Maybe to the rest of us. I’m glad KC has spelled it out so they cannot behave as though it’s a grey area.

i wonder how many charities will be keen after the Sentebale debacle? That’s an awful setback to a worthy charity - and all caused by H&M’s unbridled entitlement.

How do you think they will fund their charity work though? Are you not even the least bit suspicious that the letter was issued because there was a misapprehension that public funding would
be used? What is there to be gained by the Sussexes from charity work if no funding is available? Especially as they don’t seem to have done much charity work while they were in the States. What is so different about doing it here other than they thought they could get freebies?

Surely they'd both be better advised to find some sort of job rather than undertaking unspecified 'charity work'?

I also think it's going to be harder for them to find organisations happy to work with them in England compared to in California. Not that they did too well there. British organisations won't want to be seen to be encouraging faux royal cosplay, especially after Charles' statement.

Neither Catherine nor Camila behave in any way other than consorts of their husbands doing royal duties to further the interests of the nation they serve. They don't rock up to random countries in their own free time expecting speaking platforms and awards for their own greatness, as Meghan does.

👏 well said!

No, but Kate and Camilla know that their role is to support their DHs and they behave accordingly. Meghan thinks she's the star and Harry is the one who should be supporting her. You see it every time they do anything together. She walks in front of him, she sticks out her hand first to greet whoever it is, grabs the mic, answers the questions, even when they're directed to Harry!

BemusedAmerican · 08/09/2026 17:48

Well, I'm sure you will see them posing for photo ops at upcoming natural disasters.

Yes and agree they’ll continue getting media coverage.

Yes I agree. And the only reason she's allowed to push her way into these rooms is because of the dolt following her.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 08/09/2026 17:55

I can’t see Meghan doing much charity work as didn’t she complain she wasn’t getting paid when she did royal duties? I presume a patron can charge all their clothes, expenses, travel and accommodation to that charity when they do a public event but they don’t actually get a pay cheque, can’t see her doing much for “free” if that was her attitude as a working royal.

I would hope that charities are mindful of the possibility of expenses.

They might need a big thick black marker for redactions.

OneLilacHedgehog · 08/09/2026 17:59

@BigWillyLittleTodger let's just ignore all the charity work Meghan has done then?

damnatiomemoriae · 08/09/2026 18:01

I don’t want to ignore her charity work.

I would like absolute clarity about any expenses they have received.

Why? What business is it of yours?

And charities have strict expenses policies. If you have any particular concerns contact the charity in question. Although they may just ignore the I hate Meghan letters assuming the charity is giving her big expenses

Yes, there should be clarity about the charity.

Why did they need sharpies? Was someone writing inspirational notes on bananas?

At least if she did that at Invictus the bananas could be used as half time refreshments rather than shrivel up like the last lot!

I think a charity receiving donations to enable them to help others should be absolutely transparent.

I give to several charities and organisations that would likely provide their accounts - as well as account for every penny spent. I understand there are running costs and would expect that.

I’m not sure I would like my donations to be ‘wasted’ on a luxury suite or a fancy dress for someone who shows up for the equivalent of a few hours.

Allegedly they are philanthropists. One would hope they buy their own clothes and pay for their own suite. Or pay the majority of it.

A yes or no would suffice.

Clear to everyone except the people who have been asking BP for clarification. And Harry himself, who claims to be a working royal despite not being a working royal.

They are, read their annual reports. They will talk about expenses given. They won't say Meghan at X event had £2.20 worth of expenses in the form of a cup of tea and a custard cream.

He hasn't claimed that. He is a prince though.
