I'd say KC is now actually wishing James H was Harry's dad

😂😂😂

Yes, but Edward VIII was a huge deal and the future of the monarchy was at genuine risk at the time. It's often said that people nowadays don't realise just how precarious it was, because QE2 was mostly a success for such a long time, so we all forgot and forgave.
If the government banned Andrew or Harry from becoming king, as they rightly would, quite a lot of us would be questioning exactly why we bothered with a hereditary monarchy at all.
I'm neither monarchist or republican, there are arguments for/against both, but I think chopping and changing it leaves it very open to criticism. (It's always open to criticism, but even more so.)

We actually don't have a hereditary monarchy - we have a system where a bloodline throws up the next HoS. But if they're not suitable, we sack them and go back along the bloodline looking for someone acceptable and willing.

Parliament beheaded Charles I in 1949.

They asked Charles II nicely in 1660.

They showed James II the door in 1688 and installed William and Mary.

Then, they selected a Hanoverian in 1714.

In 1936 Edward VIII was seen off.

Parliament will allow the next in line to ascend to the throne if they consider them capable of functioning as HoS.

Exactly. We haven't had an Absolute Monarchy for some time.

I wonder if Raven want to keep it as a mixture of public and private security as they have seen this working in the past, it will be less strain on public finances, and they will impose some control over the Sussexes' public engagements.

RAVEC will only provide expensive tax player funded security if the threat level warrants it. As we saw when Harry visited recently they don't draw large crowds that need to be managed and if they did local police forces would provide the crowd control.

They could both have extremely private lives if they wanted to, none of this ridiculous circus is necessary, they thrive on the drama and attention.

Not to put to fine a point on it but where does h or anyone else for that matter think ravec are going to magic these extra police protection officers. They have the lowest number of officers to the highest need ever.
My husband's friend is armed police response and many officers no longer want the hassle or risk of carrying firearms due to the zeal of prosecution against them. Few years ago husband was at the London club they belong to and he said moral is low. They also don't get to chose who they are assigned to, many are absolute twats but get protection. H will be quite low on the priority list. He should continue to pay his own security as he proved in July they can both travel with anonymity, they fact they choose not to is not ravecs problem. His previous (pre flounce to USA) officers never needed to draw their weapons.

Would you like to correct the first date ~ bit scary if that happened in 1949!

Photos of them exiting the plane would have included the children, which the press would not print.
Hence the information in the DM article that the children were sitting in the seats behind H&M.

The Sussexes briefed the press on the time and location of the flight.

The photos of them exiting the plane would be all over SM if it was paps or an employee who took the photos of the plane and cars. I think it was the Sussex’s who released the photos.

MrsLeonFarrell · 28/08/2026 13:43

I don't see anyone expressing sympathy for the police liason officer whose number Harry has been given. Thoughts and prayers.

Also, I read that Diana isn't really dead, she's living in Wigan.
The moon is made of cheese..

Didn't she run away with Elvis?

😂😂😂

Surely it would have been established by now whether or not Harry is Charles' son, a basic DNA test is easy enough to carry out.🤷

FenellaFeldman · 28/08/2026 13:24

Thank you. I'm not sure what part of "Constitutional Monarchy with Parliament as Sovereign" people don't understand!

If the government needed to keep hopping about plucking suitable random members from the family tree, the monarchy would become a laughing stock. The government may officially choose the monarch, but it's telling that in modern times it's only veered off course once. They need to maintain the veneer of a hereditary monarchy.

As this extremely old gossip has come up here, for the avoidance of any doubt, Harry is Charles' son. No DNA test is needed.

Indeed, looking at credits for many of the images from Wednesday either two professional photographers (Anita Maric and Kelvin Bruce) got very lucky with right place, right time, or they were tipped off/briefed.

TBF if there were real concerns about randoms taking photographs of disembarkation the aircraft could have been parked
in a manner or ground equipment used so as to block lines of sight.

SweatyWarrenBetty · 28/08/2026 13:30

😂 Harry is Charles' legitimate son. Whether he's his biological son has nothing to do with anything.

Not if KC3 isn't his bio-dad. His conception would have been an act of treaton on the part of his mother and her lover.

BigWillyLittleTodger · 28/08/2026 13:48

BunnyBunbunbun · 28/08/2026 13:33

Lol, no I don't. I thing he has a wealth of around a few tens of millions that is enough to fund his needs and those of his family.

You have absolutely no idea if Harry has “enough”.

And if H gets this level of security just because he's the King's son, as opposed to there being a clear current threat (or whatever the relevant criterion is). Well, Charlotte and Louis have grounds for demanding it, too. As do George's "spares".

Oh, and H was demanding the guns-and-sirens security when he was merely grandson of the Monarch.
