Could someone please explain to me how Harry and Meghan’s return to the UK will work out.
They’re very unpopular with the British public.
Unless Doria moves over to the UK, Meghan has no family support.
Harry has burned so many bridges with his family.
His friends, those that are remaining, will have to choose between supporting Harry or supporting William and apparently they have had quite a aristocratic friends in common.
William will be the King so I presume he will be supported by many of those mutual friends.
Will the first cousins, George, Charlotte, Louis, Archie and Lilibet ever meet up ?
Apart from probably funerals.
Not my monkey not my circus I know, but it is a mess.

But William gets forgotten. He was Diana’s grieving son too.

Is this a thread about William?

No it’s about H&M return to the UK and how it will pan out - what’s your take?

Viviennemary · 25/08/2026 11:08

All these things are the reasons w hy it won't work. Uprooting a 7 year old from the life he has always known. Most folk don't do that.

boysmuminherts · 25/08/2026 11:14

they're not unpopular with everyone

It's about Harry and his circumstances, which is why it's misleading to post about Harry walking behind his mother's coffin as if that trauma was unique to him - William experienced that same trauma.

Dollymylove · 25/08/2026 11:39

I think the way Meghan has treated her father tells us much about her.
Offering an olive branch to him would be a start

Yes. That was outrageous too.

And so did a very young Prince Philip in a funeral that was probably ever more devastating than just one person.

Philip must have been grateful it was only Diana in the box and the boys were beside him and not in boxes in front of him.

You surely cannot deny that the future relationship between William and Harry is relevant ? You may say well they are talking about the past but as we know from Harry his past seems to direct his life now.

They’re very unpopular with the British public.

I'm willing to bet that any public appearances will be well attended by happy crowds. Just wait and see .....

What, like his recent Chatham House appearance? There were about 20 press (and that was because they were waiting for his reaction to the forthcoming ANL disaster verdict), and his own bodyguards. The bemused female copper who was called by the bodyguards to ‘stand guard’ will never not be funny.

Then there’s Meghan. She was looked at bemusedly when she did an uninspiring speech on a Geneva roundabout by some people waiting for a bus. Other than the organised small seated audience, that was it.

They’re only interesting because they’re so spectacularly hopeless at everything.

TheAutumnCrow · 25/08/2026 12:21

Meanwhile I hope Meghan is able to sort her own family relationships out on the Markle-Ragland side of things.

Her dad can’t have long left. There’s plenty of room there for reconciliation and redemption on both sides.

Just commenting on a pp's comment. That's how this works.

But of course William is relevant to HAM and we are allowed to mention him.
(God, the scolding and policing on this thread??)

She won't do it. I think I feel sadder about her poor, sick, foolish dad than she does. I know from having lost my own parents some time ago that you feel awful guilt even if you haven't really done much to upset them. The abandonment of this old, ailing and unhappy man is really grim.

But he's just a fat, somewhat unkempt old bloke...not the King of England. Just saying.

Would he Dad, brother and sister actually want to have anything to do with her?

Turned her back for years, then rock up like the loving daughter and sister. Her family must have been so hurt.
They were all snubbed for her wedding in favour of complete strangers.

What does that say?

MrsSlocombesCat · 25/08/2026 12:53

I'm very skeptical that what they told Oprah and what Harry wrote about in his book were actually lies. I think it's all true, and that's why Harry has been shunned. You don't talk about the firm. Let's not forget how his father treated his mother and now he has to be deferent to the woman his father betrayed her with. The Royal Family are not nice people. Harry was foolish to out them but I have no doubt about the truth of it and the cover up that went on to disprove his allegations. I think they are coming back because they have been forced to due to financial constraints, now that Harry has to pay all that money to Associated Press. I think they are deluded and naive but not nasty.

bissom · 25/08/2026 13:14

Do we think they'll be allowed to continue with their faux royal tours - bearing in mind the security issues?

Exactly so someone can always start one about William and tlaalk about how it affected him if they wanted to.

Good luck to them is my thoughts.

Interesting point.

But those tours cost the host country a lot of money and I expect there are few small, developing countries which could justify that cost. And hasn’t the shine come of HAM somewhat since those days?

I wonder what the net value (in financial and also less quantifiable terms) to Nigeria and …was it Colombia?

No it was homage to my best friend, when we were younger and it was something she would say when lip gloss was all the craze. She is no longer with us but its something the rest of us who are still remember her by amongst lots of other wonderful memories.

bissom · 25/08/2026 13:41

Actually I wonder if they will be allowed to do tours full stop!

No, you are upsetting yourself. Figure out why and your life will be happier.

Also, try to understand the idea that rag merchants are in the business of selling rags. This may help you gain a sense of perspective on the whole business.

Has it ever occurred to you that there are people in conference rooms rubbing their greasy hands together at the narrative they are pushing and estimating how long they can keep flogging this particular horse before even the British public grows weary of it?

A bit like the behaviour of the Markles then
