Right….I saw we had some new joiners on the previous thread so I’m just going to set my stall out…
I was pleased when HAM started dating and more so when they announced their engagement.
I hoped they would be happy together and welcomed the diversity M brought to the RF through both her heritage, country of birth and career experience.
I would term myself a reluctant monarchist in the sense I am uncomfortable with the principle of power and huge wealth through birthright, but don’t value the alternative of an elected Head of State and can see how the Royal Allure brings benefits to the UK both financially and diplomatically.
I say this because I’m not “big” on royal traditions per se and some protocols rather silly and archaic.
As such I was happy to see M giving birth to A on her terms and doing away with the standing outside the hospital for a photocall. Likewise wearing whatever nail polish she liked and not wearing nude tights if she didn’t want to.
I didn’t care about the baby shower in NYC and for the record, yes I think some of the responses to her in MSM and especially SM had racist undertones and some overt racism.
I make this clear because some posters seem to want to create a narrative that posters all hate HAM and always have.
I don’t hate either of them. Why would I? I don’t know them personally nor do I the emotional energy to expand that level of response to a couple of celebrities.
So why am I here? Well I dip in and out. I can go months where HAM don’t cross my thoughts at all. But when they do, it’s because of something they have chosen to make public.
In the last 5 years it would have been nice (if only for a change of pace) to have something positive to respond to and if they did do something “good” (without the self severing undercurrent that’s pervasive presently) I’d be happy to acknowledge it.
The pair of them started to lose me was at the Bradbury interview in front of the orphanage. What about meeee…
Really? I mean really…..there’s a time and a place for self pity and not recognising that was not it.
But everyone deserves a second chance right?
So I stayed open minded until the HIHO manifesto.
Leaving the RF - fine. Good luck (well meant).
Leaving the RF while expecting to keep all perks and ditch the “service” - not fine.
Then from that point on it’s been one thing after another, Oprah, Spare, Interviews, documentaries all leveraging the platform provided by H’s birth status whist slagging off the institutions and country that provided it.
Their M.O. is now utterly predictable. Throw a poorly aimed grenade at the RF/UK govt/Courts and sob like toddlers when they inevitably get hit with the shrapnel of their own latest offensive.
I don’t judge them as people - but I do judge their actions and believe I have an absolute right to do so when their behaviours cost the British taxpayer money or their allegations represent a reputational smear on British institutions and culture.
If they decided to live privately or make a living that did not involve grifting of their titles I’d not give either of them another thought.
