What more summer shenanigans await us from the Montecito duo?

Archie and Lilibet aren’t even equivalent to B and E in the public’s minds. The public watched them grow up and watched them at royal events over the years. They were also clearly close to HMQ. A and L just don’t have that connection. I can imagine when they grow up, the tabloids will be quite happy to write stories about them so that will keep them in the public eye.

Being concerned about PH well being though is cause for a private family reconciliation , not making him part of the WRF.

& separately , I also think it took two decades or more for Camilla to be rehabilitated ( and for some she still isn't) - it isn't a 6 month nor even 2 year project. & as has been noted whatever C did , she kept schtum about the RF.
I have to say I like Camilla , many don't. I don't think she wanted this. I don't condone everything she and C did , but I think she's trying to make the best of a position she never wanted.

I can't remember the poster who said Camilla puts up with the royalty because of the man , Meghan puts up with the man because of the royalty. Who knows if it is true.

Also, Camilla was a future Queen. She was going to have a public role no matter what. So it made sense for Charles to try to 'rehabilitate' her.

Whereas Harry is the exiled 5th in line and frankly irrelevant.

Starryfifty · 21/07/2026 14:24

And Camilla "left bodies in the street" according to PH. What an odious prick. He's lucky to even get a cup of tea with them

Yes, not many people would be so gracious towards a person who trashed them and made money out of it.
Harry really is a vile man.

bluegreygreen · 21/07/2026 14:35

I agree with @IcedPurple that we really have seen no sign of KC wanting Harry back in any formal capacity. Prior to the meeting last week, his last public comments were to wish the Sussexes well abroad; last week he simply hosted them at a family (not royal) residence.

Re Theo Rycroft, the one clear comment (among many suppositions) in the original article came in the last line:

A Buckingham Palace declined to comment but a source close to Mr Rycroft said: ‘Theo has never held or expressed the views as claimed’.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/07/2026 14:35

There's zero indication of any such intent on Charles' part from what I can see

That's just the point though, @IcedPurple; we don't see because the RF don't want us to, which in family matters is entirely fair but perhaps not quite so much when it comes to their public role

I mentioned Camilla only because we've been here before with a principal's campaign to make someone "acceptable", and I've not the least doubt that the same could be rolled out for Harry if Charles wished it - and unfortunately Charles has showed repeatedly that his own judgement is deeply dubious

Kirschcherries · 21/07/2026 14:37

WRT Working Royals.

Historically, the Dukes of Kent and Gloucester were needed. Their children are not and will not be WR.

HMTLQ’s four children were WR, three still are. As a pp pointed out W & H are the only grandchildren who were/are WR.

Logically G, C & L will be given the option to be WR but I can see W & C would support C & L if they chose not to be.

I cannot see how A & L will ever be WR.

When W becomes King the WR are likely to be C, Anne, Edward, Sophie and eventually G, C & L.

But there's zero indication that he does want the Sussexes to have a public role. And plenty of evidence to the contrary.

Virtually his first act as King was to 'wish them well in their life overseas'. Since then he's barely mentioned them in public. An obvious opportunity for him to elevate their public role would have been for Charles to mention his beloved American family during his America State Visit. Better yet, invite them to the State Dinner or other official events. But not a word. The recent statement about their visit was quite cold. They were simply 'hosted' (not 'welcomed'), no photos, no talk of how delighted the King was to meet his darling grandchildren. They might as well have been minor officials from the Pitcairn Islands, for all the love and enthusiasm expressed.

Despite all this talk of Project Thaw - I have some faith in the MIGS

So do I, @BasiliskStare; after all they're largely the ones keeping the images intact, as we see when family members go off piste and it all goes wrong

I also agree that private relationships and a royal role for H&M are very different things, but worry that if Charles really wanted the second option there'd be nothing to stop him. We've been here before with his appointment of Mark Bolland to drive the "rehabilitate Camilla" project, and I've not the least doubt he could try the same again ... and worse, that many would fall for it

Andrew Mountbatten Windsor tried (for a role) for his daughters and it was refused even though he was supposedly the late Queen's favourite

Edited to add this is true, @meercat23, but back then there were more royals to share the load, and though the daughters still don't have a very formal role they're still brought in for garden parties and such
Something which, IMO, the RF may well come to regret

Edited

I don’t think they have been involved in any garden parties this year ?

BigWillyLittleTodger · 21/07/2026 13:09

My suggestion of them replacing Princess Ann was very much young in cheek, not only would their egos not be able to cope with such a role they don’t have the ability to do the sterling work she undertakes, in reality they are totally unsuitable for a life of public service, the only people they serve is themselves.

If I had a municipal duck pond to open and asked a RF member to come along, if they offered H & M I'd be saying no, thank you, we'll get a local celeb (plenty in East Berkshire) or the Morris Dancers to do it.

But Camilla kept her head down and quietly got on with charity work .and it took years for her to be accepted .
Can anyone imagine H and M being prepared to wait 10/15 years to be accepted ?

This keeps being said, and it is true.

Also, she did not trash the institution, which is where she differs significantly from HAM.

Yeah, this had me fooled until Charlotte Griffiths came clean a couple of weeks ago.

Charlotte Griffiths was wiring all the Sussex spin and lies right through May and July last year. It’s all bollocks.

Yes that's true about the US visit, @IcedPurple. The rest might be put down to Charles not wanting to show his hand too soon, but he could have involved them in the US and it wouldn't even have been on home soil

Can anyone imagine H and M being prepared to wait 10/15 years to be accepted ?

In a word no, @Mylovelygreendress, but as someone else suggested Harry might pretend he was willing to do this if it secured something he wanted, only for things to look very different once he had

Edited to add I don't know if any 2026 garden parties have happened yet, but while Beatrice and Eugenie were at last year's I'd expect any presence this time to depend on what else (if anything) the RF have discovered

bluegreygreen · 21/07/2026 15:17

The Sussexes haven't even shown the ability to think a few years ahead - they insulted Charles when the Queen was alive, and have now turned their sights on William now that Charles is on the throne.

The idea that they might be able to keep their heads down for decades, even in pursuit of a significant goal, is laughable.

Indeed, bluegreygreen, and you'd think any normal person would have worked out that the ones they were blasting - as opposed to the one currently on the throne - was likely to inhabit it themselves pretty soon

Unfortunately though, H&M don't come across as normal people, or even to possess normal intelligence

Typo

I don't know if any 2026 garden parties have happened yet

The Buckingham Palace garden parties were in May, and the Holyrood garden party was 30th June.

The Yorks were not present.

Ah, thank you bluegreygreen; I thought they were later than that, but it's certainly interesting that the York daughters weren't there

It sounds like a drunken dinner party musing that someone exaggerated and leaked to the press

Don't forget that Theo Rycroft is (Lady) Samantha Cameron's BIL (married to her half sister) which means connections to the Chipping Norton set of politicians, TV personalities and journalists (Murdochs and Rebecca (NOTW phone hacking Brooks).
