On the Harry & William trauma, this is a very personal perspective, but as a bereaved child myself, I found forming relationships with trusted adults especially difficult. It’s a lot harder to work out how to deal with new adult carers and teachers when you don’t have parents as a safe backstop and the continuity of home and consistent family rules.

So I do think it’s relevant that Harry started at a new boarding school within days of his mother’s death. It doesn’t explain or excuse his current behaviour, but William was already settled at school and would have known the staff and had friends. Harry wouldn’t have had that structure, and it’s more likely that his new school would have been overwhelming, whereas for William it provided structure, support and continuity.

As I say, none of this excuses Harry being a dick in his 40’s. Other bereaved children have to manage without his resources, but I can see why his experiences would have been different.

I don't think Harry started a new boarding school. He didn't start Eton until September 1998. I think he returned to his familiar prep-school - Ludgrove.

Harry was among the eldest in his school year with a September 15 birthday so was still 12 on August 31 1997.

Does anybody know whether the Master Chef programme will be available in the UK?

JSMill · Yesterday 12:43

I recall, when he first married M, there were stories out that she was encouraging him to live a healthier life, do yoga etc etc. She did look like a healthy living person. H now does not look like someone who lives well and it’s just probably the lack of purpose.

He looks older than his brother.

Maybe he thinks that if he looks older, he'll magically become the heir rather than the spare?

Apparently in other news, the Eugene Levy interview with Prince William , has been nominated for a primetime Emmy!

Omg he purchased this nomination and cheated his way into this nomination .....no? Noone got those comments to make now its related to William...noone saying its been bought and paid for cos that's how it works....

Hmmmm 🤔🤨

Well no, because William is known for giving awards to others, not for buying them for himself. The Pat Tillman award was disgraceful.

AnAutumnCrow · Yesterday 12:50

Anyway, yes, probably alcohol too given Harry mentions it himself too, I believe, in his many over-self-involved accounts of himself and his life.

I suppose that the hair fuzz functions as a comfort blanket so that he doesn't have to fully see the face he has created in the mirror.

He needs to check into a Priory type clinic for a month. God knows he has the money for that, and if not then Charles would certainly sub it. I hope that's been discussed, actually.

Has the William interview been widely panned and regarded as not very good viewing, then? I believe that was a key part of people's incredulity at the WLM Emmy nomination.

Dontevenlookatme · Yesterday 12:59

It wasn’t William’s show though was it? It was Eugene Levi’s, and a very good one too.

AnAutumnCrow · Yesterday 13:03

Well yes, one was Meghan's and received with widespread derision.

Re the beard , we have it from H's own lips on the recent podcast he trims his beard once every 5 - 6 days. DH does not have a beard so I am unfamiliar with beard maintenance , but I would have thought a well kept / well trimmed beard would need to be attended to more than that. If you have a beard because you just can't be arsed to shave , or for reasons of taste , different matter. Anyway - that's his choice , but just my view the lack of better hair / beard trimming is to a large extent why he looks unkempt. He may well be as fragrant as Lady Archer for all I know. 😊

On the Harry school thing. My source (educational link) at the time suggested he was not expected to go to Eton, but to Radley as much less academic. Eton had very strict entry requirements in terms of academic ability and knew he would be lost there. But, with Diana’s death, Eton relented so he could be with his brother and have the supportive housemaster who was so important to them both. He struggled academically at Eton, which was entirely expected. Which can’t have done much for his feeling of self worth, particularly given his 2nd son resentment.

Yes - I read that Charles changed his mind at the last minute about school for Harry. I think there was also a sort of inherent expectation that William would look after him at school. Harry would have done better at Radley.

It strikes me that William was pretty parentified as a child

  • expected to be Diana's confidante and console her when she was upset, William loved her but understood her weaknesses - he said once that as a grandmother she would have enjoyed creating chaos while leaving others to clear up. While Harry seems stuck at the "St Diana" image
  • William had to take on responsibility to "look after" his grieving 13 year old brother, who was out of his depth at Eton, because it was an easier option for Charles. In Spare it was clear that Harry's expectations of William were more of a father figure than close in age brother - like jealousy of William dating Kate because he felt "abandoned".

It is clear why William wants to be a very present in his own children's' lives.

Agreed with the lack of purpose, what does he do all day? He doesn’t have to get up to go to work, doesn’t have to attend to the children as they have nannies, doesn’t have to do anything around the house or garden as they have staff, he does the occasional “charity” event and some self publicity like the latest cringe fest of a podcast or talking to a group of estate agents about his dead mum, but that seems to be it, his lack of purpose is feeding his resentment and bitterness which seems to be growing and not dissipating, probably fed by being on the internet all day and his fondness for certain substances, it’s not a healthy way to live and it’s showing in his physical appearance, god knows what he’s going to be like in ten years time.

I don't think Meghan looks well either. She used to glow. She looks drawn and too thin these days.

This from Tom Sykes - I know some don't like him but I think he makes a point.

Meghan: I Felt "Humiliated" by Public Bickering Over My UK Trip
Who's the real victim here? Meghan of Course!
TOM SYKES
JUL 16

PREVIEW

Meghan’s people have told PEOPLE magazine that she felt “humiliated” by the appalling way she was treated by the GHASTLY BRITS in the run-up to her trip to the UK last week.

What was it that was so awful this time, pet? The audience with the King at his Highgrove Sanctuary? The offer of an apartment at Buckingham Palace maybe?
No, apparently it was the very public way the back-and-forth about the visit was conducted.
Hang on a second! It was HER TEAM that fired the starting pistol on making public this entire psychodrama, by issuing, unprompted, an “operational note” to journalists confirming that the whole California quartet would be flying over for what the Sussex people were already, thrillingly, billing as a dramatic rapprochement with the entire UK.
Harry knew the status quo of the last six years was in place and that RAVEC had not magically upgraded his protection, but he went ahead and made arrangements that HE then cancelled IN PUBLIC...

Re Pippa Middleton not been seen with Kate in public maybe because her father in law David Matthews is under formal investigation for the historical rape of a British minor in France in the 1990’s. That might be coming to a conclusion soon so RF don’t want to caught in that shitstorm. Also Pips’s husband is known to be a bit of a twunt - so maybe life is emotionally tough for her. Or she just wants to keep herself and her DCs out of the media.

I don’t think you’ve really thought this through. As others have mentioned, it’s not William’s production. William was merely a guest on Eugene Levy’s show.

Eugene Levy is a highly respected Canadian writer, performer and producer with, to date, a track record of 15 nominations for major awards including Emmys, Grammys and Golden Globes - and 5 wins.

Perhaps you’d like to reconsider your attempt at a clap back? Because anyone making those sort of comments about Eugene Levy would look pretty foolish.

Meet me by the lake ? ( or whatever it’s called).

BigWillyLittleTodger · Yesterday 13:47

god knows what he’s going to be like in ten years time.

Quoting myself here, but giving this more thought, it’s highly likely William will be King and Catherine Queen, George will be a 23 year old heir to the throne, all the attention will be on the Wales family, far more than it is now, he is bitter and jealous as it is, how will he cope?
