My mother never taught me about underwear either. I fact i recall her sniggering at me when I wore a bathing suit that went completely see-through when wet at the age of 13 and I ran around with all my pubic hair showing. When another mother told me my mother just laughed and said 'I wondered when she'd finally look in the mirror'. *

I appreciate that this was NOT normal. MM with all her experience as an actress you would think would have a better eye. Or better advice.

*. Sorry, was triggered by a sudden memory

That’s awful, so sorry you went through that.

binkie163 · 23/04/2026 19:11

Also triggered.
I was extremely thin and muscular as a child from sport. I remember my mum dragging me round every shop in London looking for a polo neck swimsuit!! Complaining to every shop assistant how boney my chest was, you could see all my veins, 8 years old so nowhere near puberty. Obviously couldn't find one so I had to wear a polo neck under my swimsuit.
I have to admit some of my aversion to M is that she seems very like my mum, self absorbed, unpleasant and poor behaviour, I feel sad for her kids.

Ohpleeeease · 23/04/2026 19:12

And sorry to you @binkie163 , some mothers are just rubbish aren’t they?

So sorry you both went through that. It’s amazing how triggering some stuff is.

I wonder if it's just that she thinks she knows better than anyone. I mean, surely stylists have advised her? Something very strange about the whole wedding thing. Perhaps she pissed Givenchy off? Very strange to be having things done by third parties at the last minute.

I would be very surprised if she hadn’t burnt her bridges with Givenchy, she treats every else like crap, perhaps another reason why she and Kate fell out

She doesn't seem to have worn much Givenchy since the departure of Clare Waight Keller

....or the ending of the generous clothing allowance from KC.

OctopusFriend · 23/04/2026 18:47

Yes, that's absolutely correct. The head designer was there to check everything at all the other previous royal weddings. The Emanuels, Lindka Cierach, Sarah Burton, etc
Very odd.

Claire Waight Keller was there on the day: she was the lady arranging Meghan’s veil on the steps of the chapel.

Thank you, I stand corrected. So there was no fall out. Perhaps the bridesmaids dresses were made by a more budget friendly brand.

I only remember because the dress designers have always looked so normal in comparison with the much more dramatic Emanuels 🤣

They looked like they had been made by one of those Chinese knock-off sites where you send in measurements and they send you a faked designer gown.

I always thought it was very odd that there were no fittings for the bridesmaids dresses until the infamous final (bullying fitting). Surely with a major couture house and such a high profile wedding with growing children they would send out calico fitting samples to check the fit to avoid nasty surprises.

I also found is suspicious that Givenchy seemed to take absolutely no responsibility for the bridesmaids' dresses - gave the impression that it was nothing to do with them. 😉

I wondered if Charles paid for Givenchy but Meghan bought cheaper.

That's an interesting thought.

I can’t understand why she doesn’t look at the photos and see for herself that the underwear is not right and visible.

I’m sure she sees. She just doesn’t care enough. They’re a means to an end, like everything else in her life, the end being untold riches and fame and obeisance. I suppose you could say she’s “adaptable”, if you’re being generous. She wears clothes like she dons personae. It didn’t go unnoticed by anyone that as soon as she moved to Montecito she started wearing old money (in fact, she was one of the influencers who started making them very much new money) names that the filthy rich old ladies of Montecito have been wearing since MM’s school days. Hence, also, the changing of the engagement ring so it resembled the rings of the women she aspires to join the ranks of. She’s a hustler, she will do whatever it takes to ingratiate and climb the greasy pole and give others the impression she’s arrived. She’s been doing it since she got her role in Suits, being who she aspires to be rather than who she is. I don’t think she gives two hoots about clothes per se. They, like Harry and the titles and the house and the deals and all the rest of it, are a means to an end.

jeffgoldblum · 23/04/2026 23:41

She chooses and wears the underwear that she wants, the reason is obvious to those who recognise it , I however won’t go into it here.

Thanks yes- that memory just hit me hard on the thread. I still think of it with shame quite often and I'm 53 now.

Maybe he paid for Givenchy and she used all the money on her own dress (‘It’s my day!’) and then had to put the bridesmaid dresses on her credit card. Who knows? But speculation is so interesting!

Completely OT I get irritated every time an Emmanuel is wheeled at a royal wedding to comment on the frock. They did such a poor job with Diana you would think they would just fade away rather than pretend to be the last word in wedding style.

My heartfelt thoughts to the lovely posters here who’ve been taken back to very sad times in their life as children. ❤️

Exactly this. She seems to entirely lack a soul to me.
