@wordlermy bridesmaids’ dresses were knocked up by a seamstress who came round to my MIL’s house with a sewing machine! They were cheap and cheerful but fitted everyone perfectly! Charlotte’s dress was shocking by any standards! Also she should have been wearing tights!

Harry is also culpable, he joined in.

Those images of Harold thumb-framing his frost wizened todger are out there forever 🤡

Oh @CathyorClaire I had forgotten that. Shimmying his crotch sideways in front of the camera. Now I need the brain bleach again. 😰

Eugenie had a simple but structured dress and it was fitted beautifully.

And her bridesmaids all had perfectly uniformly finished skirts.

The finish on Charlotte’s dress at Meghan’s wedding was terrible for something that was designed and created by Givenchy.

Also what I never understood about ‘dressgate’ as described by Harry in Spare was they hired a local tailor to try to fix the issues that Kate was supposedly complaining about - why hadn’t Givenchy sent a team to Windsor to be on hand to deal with issues like this?

Charlotte's bridesmaid dress was awful. I still don't understand why it was so bad, she was just a little girl.
The one she wore at Eugenie's wedding was perfectly fitted.

Same. I did go hmm when the engagement photos were published (and the cost of the dress). All of it much grander than W & C. The pictures are just so smug and has an air of I am so much better than you plebs. Not very humanitarian is it (at this point media was still often referring to her humanitarianism but now we all know what bloody fakery that was).

I will admit I am childish and petty.

I really missed the demise of the flash soapies like Dynasty and Dallas in the 90s, but the Royal Family boldly stepped in and filled the gap for a while. Things gradually got pretty quiet, and then William got engaged and married, and I hoped things would pick up. However, I watched clips of Catherine and thought she comes across as so nice and genuine, and William seems besotted. I thought she is not going to put a foot wrong. I was pleased for them, but disappointed for me.

THEN, came Harry's engagement photos and I immediately thought this is going to bear watching, and was I right. Talk about the RF (or Harry and his missus, at least), giving us all the old Razzle Dazzle (razzle dazzle them) for quite a while. Sadly, though, they have become repetitive, dull and boring, and have lost their royal lustre, which was really the only thing they had to offer. Meghan hasn't got the skill to top Squidgygate.

Strongly agree. The Queen should have done it all the way back when Edward and Sophie decided not to use the titles, way before Catherine or Meghan were on the scene. That would have meant that it wasn't personal. But she didn't act at the right time. As Ever.

I heartily agree as well, Ann also refused titles for her children, CMP refused an Earldom I believe, then Sophie and Edward refused titles for their children, why she didn’t act then is disappointing, it was a real opportunity missed, now we are in the situation we are in and it looks as though we will be stuck with the status quo for another generation at least, it’s going to bring nothing but trouble unless someone has the balls to sort it out once and for all.

I remember reading that Meghan didn’t want George and Charlotte in the wedding party . The late Queen insisted . No idea if that’s true but I did notice that W and C kept a firm grip of them after the service .

“The crowds consisted of the same people who gather outside court if celebrities are up on drink-driving charges, or someone’s giving out meatball samples outside the butcher’s,” [Claire Harvey] says in a damning verdict.

I agree. The green colour doesn't help either. I think M did lose weight, but the slightly looser fit looked cooler than the sleek fit.

It always baffles me that they can't get these dresses just right. It might be the ignorant non-sempstress in me talking, but they knock up pretty good fits on Sewing Bee in a couple of hours, surely they could have a part-made spare and a seamstress ready to go last minute for the price?!

I remember one designer who wasn't happy with the way their dress looked and the criticism they got, said m turned up for fitting and it was spot on, however on the day she wore a padded uplift bra (strapless obvs) on the day it was much too tight, lifted the front out of line, underwear visible, no slip.
I have since assumed that is the fitting problem. She should wear the foundation for fitting.

That is one of the best lines ever😂😂😂. The whole article is excellent and outlines exactly how they are left scraping the bottom of the barrel, they have no principles or scruples.

Their self congratulatory statements about how this trip was a success for them, is especially repugnant,

If I were William I would turn HRH into a way of signalling who is a senior working royal and who isn't. No HRH until you are an adult and actively working to represent the monarchy. If you stop working for the monarchy it gets removed. Clear cut and simple for everyone to understand.

That Independent article is interesting. I think the tabloids know that the best way to keep the clicks coming is by alternating positive and negative articles so their tales come with a large lunch of salt. But measured, detached indifference that makes it clear Harry and Meghan are minor celebrities who do everything for profit is dangerous if they want to keep getting invitations to charities and keep selling things off the back of their visits.

TBH I never believed that the bridesmaids dresses came from Givenchy - I cannot believe that a couture house would make such a simple dress so badly and hiring an independent tailor to try and rescue them was really strange. Surely Givenchy would have sent a team to sort the issue for the wedding of the year? I always thought that Meghan had sourced the bm dresses cheaper somewhere.

Mylovelygreendress · Today 10:45

I can see why you would think that @lundebut M wasn’t picking up the bill so a bit surprising!

FallenNight · Today 10:48

I have just been googling official engagement photos for HM and WC but have failed to figure out how to post them.

They are very different. Catherine and William look young and about to embark on a new adventure together, and giggly happy.

Meghan and Harry look very composed, very styled and posed. Like a photo shoot for a film of the perfect romance.

William and Catherine look very young and quite sweet!

Were the other BM’s dressed as badly made ?

The exact same thought occurred to me, Lunde, but while it was definitely said that Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy was doing them we're once again up against the fact that premium couturiers don't comment on their clients (and rightly so)

For all we know Meghan may have had a titanic row with them and flounced off to order the kids' dresses from Shein, but we don't know and unless someone who was there at the time speaks up it's likely to stay that way

None of them are great, not well fitting around the shoulders and the neck, but Charlotte's is awful.
The hem is completely uneven.

On one little girl you can see the lining hanging below the skirt.
