William's non attendance to important events

Since there is a flurry of discussion on another thread its probably best to create a thread for it to take place here and not derail another one.

So William is not attending a number of important events the recent one being the VJ day..lots of you think he should have after all he is the future King and if he can't make time for these things then it begs the question what is the point of them?

So discuss away...what should he turning up to, what is his actual role if he starts to not do these types of things...

I think there are some major points to note;

The Royals don't all have to attend something, one can attend on behalf of all, if William is away, the war was now a long time ago and it isn't a major anniversary.

With the widespread availability of media and social media it is now "noticed" when someone doesn't do something, and I find it a bit OTT, if someone doesn't post a comment about this or appear at that or wear a poppy when there is an R in the month, they are "slammed". It never used to be like this, I am fairly sure our late Queen had a full 18 months off when she had a young Andrew & Edward. Kate would be "slammed" today for doing the same.

With the succession the way it is and people living longer, his "proper" job will only start when he is older and continue until he dies.... the odd holiday with his kids seems ok.

@ThatAvidViewer
Having had a parent die from cancer, I am not totally green on the subject you know...

IAmATorturedPoet · 20/08/2025 16:14

@jeffgoldblum it seems like you are popular😂
Seriously though, It’s clear that there is something else going on here and I have seen it on other threads. I’ think one of these is probably in order 🖕🏻(I think that’s the right one but I haven’t got my glasses on😳😂)

jumpingthehighjump · 20/08/2025 16:11

Don't reply then!

How weird you keep replying, it is not obligatory to answer every post you know!
I avoid answering posts if I so wish.

Why can't the OP answer your posts anyway. Anyone can.... look! I'm answering you now!

I don’t owe you an explanation but as you keep labouring the point I will simply add , anyone who has been on here long enough knows that ignoring didn’t work and Led to more tagging .
it doesn’t affect you and I’m not worried about appearing rude.

hangerup · 20/08/2025 16:15

You have to remember that cancer treatment affects everyone differently, and age makes a huge difference.

Obviously there is nuance but generally the older you are the harder it is to recover from an illness including cancer.

You have to remember that cancer treatment affects everyone differently, and age makes a huge difference.

Catherine, 42, had surgery and chemotherapy, and she is still struggling with the aftereffects—something many cancer survivors experience, even after completing treatment.

Charles, 76, may have a less aggressive or more manageable treatment plan, allowing him to continue his duties.

Younger patients can sometimes be hit harder by chemo or surgery because the treatment targets aggressive cells, while older patients often have slower, more tailored protocols. That’s why he could work while she could not.

It’s baffling that people don’t see that.

William does not have cancer. so why could he have not gone.

hangerup · 20/08/2025 16:16

what is supposed to be going on? 😆

MissFenellaPrism · 20/08/2025 16:16

Good points, @ThatAvidViewer . 👍

I think it was very major actually. There won't be another one until 2035 by which time any of those veterans who were present at this one, really will not be around.

As William is due to be Head of the Armed Forces I think he should have attended. Maybe gone to Wales, as he holds the title. There were commemorations in Cardiff, Llandudno, and Tredegar (and maybe more)

jeffgoldblum · 20/08/2025 16:17

hangerup · 20/08/2025 16:13

@jeffgoldblum

But you wrote this?

"the whole point is nobody knows .
this whole thread is dripping with delight at sticking the boot in, and as always well timed when Harry is being criticised ."

So I am asking you? What do you mean with the above?

People start threads for reasons of their own, the posters on the thread join in , they are not responsible for the thread anymore than an op is responsible for What posters post on a thread.

hangerup · 20/08/2025 16:18

Are @jeffgoldblum & @ThatAvidViewer the same poster? Is that the conspiracy?!

jumpingthehighjump · 20/08/2025 16:18

I’m not worried about appearing rude.

Obviously not! It does seem weird to be posting on a thread started by someone you refuse to respond to.

ThatAvidViewer · 20/08/2025 15:58

Not true.

Total official engagements by the Princess of Wales in 2025: 32, as of June 29, 2025

32 includes joint engagements.

she has done 5 solo engagements. Most others are just at garden parties. I hardly find that to be hard work!!!

imagine only working for 32 days a year.

wordler · 20/08/2025 16:19

hangerup · 20/08/2025 15:52

@jeffgoldblum why can't people criticise W&K without be accused of being Harry lovers or whatever?

Because if you read the threads on here on a regular basis you will often see a pile on against William and Kate by certain posters who are fans of the Sussexes.

And if you in real time compare the tone and language used on other sites like Twitter you can observe coordinated ‘talking points’ attacking the Wales family by users with ‘Sussex squad’ handles or hashtags.

It’s been a reoccurring thing for a couple of years now.

Anti William and Kate threads also draw a lot of comment from republican posters because while they remain so popular in polls there’s no chance of expanding the republican sentiment in the country. So attacking the most popular members of the family seems to be a tactic for that too.

What on earth does this mean? What relevance to have to me asking you what I asked?

VictorianChic · 20/08/2025 16:21

William would rather be an aristo I think. Married to one of the women he chased when he benched Kate, running an estate together, watching sport, living an outdoorsy anonymous life, spending time with his children, and posting on football forums. I don’t think he wants any of the royal elements tbh. I think he’s trying to make a good job of it but missing the mark.

No more than her posting on my threads 🤷‍♀️
anyway this is becoming boring and is not relevant.

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 20/08/2025 16:23

I don't think it's Catherine's cancer or not directly - I think they're priotising the kids till it reaches a point it drastically effects popularity polls for them or RF standing.

I think it's because William likely going to end up King way before anyone previously expected and possibly before his children are actually grown. Plus when he is King they'll be a lot less supporting RF members than previous monarchs had.

I also wonder if there still feeling raw from how Catherine's cancer diagnosis was handled and how intrustive press and social media were for them. Perhaps they just want some time to settle - and yes that is a huge luxury many don't get but then many people don't have the huge international press storm when there dealing with a cancer diagnosis - and worry medical notes accessed to be sold to press - so swings and round abouts.

@wordler thank you for answering. Ok, I'm sure that does happen and I'm sure it works the other way too, after all this thread is taking a bizarre turn. I don't use Twitter etc

Equally some people just might have a comment or opinion on W&K but not care about H&M either way, surely that isn't impossible?

I’m assuming you are joking 🤣
but just in case , I would be delighted to be compared to @ThatAvidViewerbut sock puppetry on threads is not only against guidelines it’s also almost impossible on the same thread with the new updates, and you do know that I didn’t seriously think you were the same poster as the other one! , I was simply pointing out that I wasn’t addressing her , but you knew that too didn’t you!
