William's non attendance to important events

Since there is a flurry of discussion on another thread its probably best to create a thread for it to take place here and not derail another one.

So William is not attending a number of important events the recent one being the VJ day..lots of you think he should have after all he is the future King and if he can't make time for these things then it begs the question what is the point of them?

So discuss away...what should he turning up to, what is his actual role if he starts to not do these types of things...

No more than her posting on my threads

What threads? I'm so bloody confused!

I don't think it's Catherine's cancer or not directly - I think they're priotising the kids till it reaches a point it drastically effects popularity polls for them or RF standing.

I think it's because William likely going to end up King way before anyone previously expected and possibly before his children are actually grown. Plus when he is King they'll be a lot less supporting RF members than previous monarchs had.

I also wonder if there still feeling raw from how Catherine's cancer diagnosis was handled and how intrustive press and social media were for them. Perhaps they just want some time to settle - and yes that is a huge luxury many don't get but then many people don't have the huge international press storm when there dealing with a cancer diagnosis - and worry medical notes accessed to be sold to press - so swings and round abouts.

The thing is, so much of this negative press could have been avoided. I don’t think anyone can deny that the way the entire thing was handled was absolutely bizarre, and the fact they’re still not working reflects really badly on them. Especially when they’ve just announced another house move, and made a huge point of “not using taxpayer money”.

What are you actually replying to? Did you actually read the post .

hangerup · 20/08/2025 16:27

sock puppetry on threads is not only against guidelines it’s also almost impossible on the same thread with the new updates,

Thanks for finally acknowledging my question @jeffgoldblum

You are still coming across as very laidback though, great job 👍🏼

AgnesX · 20/08/2025 16:28

I would imagine it's obvious. It wouldn't go down too well with the majority of the public even if they're ardent royalists.

It's hardly "of the people" if that's the front they're trying to portray.

hangerup · 20/08/2025 16:29

I do see this side, but then I am not convinced W's workload is going to massively increase as King. Could be priced wrong though.

Contrast this with what I have just read about Edwina Mountbatten, lazy until World War II but throwing herself into the Red Cross with responsibility for 60,000 staff znd 10,000 volunteers.

Maybe not go down the Mountbatten route

William would rather be an aristo I think. Married to one of the women he chased when he benched Kate, running an estate together, watching sport, living an outdoorsy anonymous life, spending time with his children, and posting on football forums. I don’t think he wants any of the royal elements tbh. I think he’s trying to make a good job of it but missing the mark.

And this comment really sums it up. Honestly, it says more about you than them. You’re repeating very old, hateful, and completely untrue gossip. William and Kate have now been together for 22 years and have three children. That’s the reality, not recycled tabloid nonsense.

wordler · 20/08/2025 16:31

hangerup · 20/08/2025 16:24

Because if you read the threads on here on a regular basis you will often see a pile on against William and Kate by certain posters who are fans of the Sussexes.

@wordler thank you for answering. Ok, I'm sure that does happen and I'm sure it works the other way too, after all this thread is taking a bizarre turn. I don't use Twitter etc

Equally some people just might have a comment or opinion on W&K but not care about H&M either way, surely that isn't impossible?

Oh of course - there’s a lot of name changing though by some of the worst offenders so it gets difficult to tell sometimes.

I don’t think this affected Mumsnet but at the time of the most crazy ‘Where’s Kate’ rumours there were also a number of social media accounts connected to a Kremlin linked disinformation network posting things about Kate and the royal family intending to erode trust in the institution of monarchy and the UK government.

They tracked at least 45 social media accounts coming from this Russian network.

It’s quite clear that he has no intention of being the hard working monarch his grandmother was and his father is choosing to be.

While he was prince of wales, between 2002 & 2022 Charles averaged between 500 and 600 engagements a year, including foreign tours.

as king he’s averaged between 200 and 250 a year. While undergoing cancer treatment.

meanwhile, between 2005 and 2011, William averages between 50 to 70.

from 2011 to 2022 he averaged between 100 and 120. Since the queen died he’s averaged between 120 and 150.

As Duchess of Cambridge, Kate averaged between 20 to 30. As princess of wales, she averaged 25 to 35. Compared to Camilla (150-200 as Duchess of Cornwall, 200 as queen consort), she falls very short.

they just don’t intend to work like the previous generations did and it’ll be very interesting to see how that progresses for them.

And the other reality is that during those 22 years, they have never once stepped up to the plate as other royals did.

jumpingthehighjump · 20/08/2025 16:13

@ThatAvidViewer
Having had a parent die from cancer, I am not totally green on the subject you know...

I’m really sorry for your loss—it must have been incredibly difficult. That’s why it’s baffling to criticize someone recovering from cancer. Catherine, 42, had surgery and chemotherapy and is still struggling with side effects. Charles, 76, may have a less aggressive or more manageable treatment plan, letting him continue duties. Age, cancer type, and treatment intensity make comparisons impossible.

SoNotaRealHousewife · 20/08/2025 16:38

It’s very disappointing that he didn’t attend at least one event, not a good look at all

I'm sure this does happen as crazy as it sounds. Although I would argue the Royals don't need any help to erode trust in them what with the drama of the last few years!

From my perspective I find the style of some
posters on this thread who love the Royals just as bizarre as Russian bots!

I don't think I would be classed as a Swiftie but I really like Taylor Swift & enjoy her music. If someone doesn't like her or thinks she can't sing etc I don't take it personally. I suppose I don't understand the devotion some have to strangers just because they are in the public eye.

doglover90 · 20/08/2025 15:48

Yes Anne is 75 and did 474 engagements last year. The idea that a social media message is work is absolutely laughable.

The idea that William sat down and wrote it….

So why speculate that Charles has a less aggressive cancer or more manageable treatment plan?

Indeed. Maybe some people are gullible enough to believe that the W and C signature means it's actually written by them 😅

Really, you have to ask that? In this thread, people are comparing Charles still working with Catherine not being able to. That’s exactly why I said age, cancer type, and treatment intensity make any comparisons impossible.

IsawwhatIsaw · 20/08/2025 16:44

95% of the time we don’t know what they are doing, tucked away on those vast estates .
And best seats at Wimbledon are presented as work engagements rather than what they are - perks.
I feel generally they please themselves and I can’t see the point of any of them.

Yes, I think it's bizarre to assume Charles is having an easier time in his 70s & that's why he works more. We will have to disagree.

Take Catherine out of the equation.

Why is William allowing his elderly father, who is going through cancer treatment, to work so much while he is off to the football and hiding?

Tutorpuzzle · 20/08/2025 16:47

So all your obfuscation and attempts to derail this thread is because you’re cross with @mumsnet?

You have commitment to your cause, I’ll give you that, @jeffgoldblum .
