Since there is a flurry of discussion on another thread its probably best to create a thread for it to take place here and not derail another one.

So William is not attending a number of important events the recent one being the VJ day..lots of you think he should have after all he is the future King and if he can't make time for these things then it begs the question what is the point of them?

So discuss away...what should he turning up to, what is his actual role if he starts to not do these types of things...

And look at how Harry has been treated by the press for stepping away.

Not for stepping away ...

You can see it in the press already - George is the serious one, Charlotte is the confident one, Louis is the cheeky/naughty one. They’re already being sold to the public as their characters.

Yeah, that's horrible. I think the dc should be kept private but the fans want to see them don't they.

One of the worst things about monarchy (and there are many bad things) is how the children are forced into being paraded in public. It is not something most parents would want for their children. Yet the monarchist supporters on here accuse us of bullying.

hangerup · 20/08/2025 20:04

The endless criticism of William is just nasty.

I think the worst that has been said is that he's lazy. Is that endless criticism and particularly nasty? I defo see very nasty things about other celebrities.

No work for cancer charities beyond the patronage for the royal marsden. No work to raise awareness around anything to do with cancer. The whole thing is just strange to me.

Really??

The fact that the Princess of Wales hasn't so far worked for cancer charities other than to take up the patronage of the Royal Marsden means that the way the entire thing was handled was bizarre?

I don't follow that argument at all.

(As someone diagnosed in the last year, having finished my hospital treatment, and also struggling with the 'new normal' that she describes)

hangerup · 20/08/2025 20:06

It doesn't make sense.

Oh the revisionism...H wanted to collaborate with the Queen! He certainly did not want to step away and he did file lawsuits to keep his security.

Do keep up dear!

💯 agree.

I find it quite unpleasant in this day and age that the children are paraded out for the desperate need of those who love the whole idea of a Monarchy. They are used as props. To me, it's cruel, times have changed from the victorian era.
To have Charlotte plastered onto the front of Hello magazine with some revolting headline of a 'budding' princess. As she is approaching puberty.

I know the Monarch is not going anywhere. I think it should be like a ceremonial role for just the King, and his Queen if she so desires to have a public face. SG should be drastically reduced, they are beyond riches, so don't need a raise of 53% next year taking it to £132million. The rest of the wider family should be making their own way in the world without trading off the name 'royal'.

hangerup · 20/08/2025 20:13

What matters is whether the public think that the core RF represent good value for money.

And rather than a conspiracy in times of economic strife the public will question more?

BemusedAmerican · 20/08/2025 20:15

H lives in California. While commentating VJ day, he might have commended the Japanese - Americans and Italian- Americans who fought in the Pacific campaign while their families had their property confiscated and were interned in camps in California during WWII .

But the whole relationship that the fans have with them is toxic. People think they are part of their family but I don't know how you stay relevant & popular without that relationship.

cumbriaisbest · 20/08/2025 19:43

So just very rich, not uber rich?

How silly
the Royals are not struggling day to day with a mortgage, renting, using a food bank and worrying themselves sick about their kid being bullied at school.

You are correct about everything but the last thing, it has been reported and mentioned by the rf themselves that quite a lot of them were bullied at school, as was Catherine herself and had to move schools to stop it.

Yes. Look at Christmas morning church walkabout. It is nauseating. Thrusting chocolate and teddies at the kids whilst they have to walk up and down smiling and thanking the peculiar people who ditch their families on christmas morning to camp out hoping for a glimpse of the children. I find it creepy

My2cents1975 · 20/08/2025 20:18

It is fascinating how KC3 staffing decisions are somehow W's fault. It is as if people (including the OP who wrote that W was the Head of State) missed the whole Westminster Abbey ceremony where a pretty big crown was plopped on KC3's head.

William will be either a King and wealthy or a private citizen and wealthy. It is amusing to see people froth over the simple reality that rich people in all societies get better access to care than poor people!

cumbriaisbest · 20/08/2025 20:18

jamnpancakes · 20/08/2025 19:46

Your post makes no sense in relation to the nanny.
The RF have a nanny or Nannies.
so what? Many people do .

The rest of your point while true is nothing to do with having a nanny or not 🤷‍♀️

I have never met anybody who had a nanny. Trying to pretend a night nanny, staff, Mum round the corner while parents do very little is normal is daft.

Charles had a very miserable time at Gordonstoun. He was bullied mercilessly. School bullying cuts across the economic and class divides.

And look at how Harry has been treated by the press for stepping away.

Harry (and Meghan) have had no end of vicious and toxic vituperation following their decision to step away and lead their own lives - a thing the rest of us assume the right to do without question. As a result they have faced an ongoing utter trashing on all media, most of it from monarchists. Again, on the subject of bullying: just saying. I am glad though that otoh they are super sensitive to 'poor' William and how hard it all is for him.

I recall Harry offered a 'half in half out' deal; that was refused by the RF so he stepped away altogether. Yet William - the actual heir to the throne - is himself only half in based on his low levels of work. But apparently that is OK.

It's horrible. Poor kids in 1950s clothes shaking hands with clergy.

And I am sure that posters unloading spite and venom on the Wales family really, genuinely care about the welfare of the kids.

Really. Truly. Genuinely.

So you’re happy for George, Charlotte, Louis and any future royal children having their lives mapped out from birth?

They have free will - they don’t have to take on the roles if they don’t want to.

CathyorClaire · 20/08/2025 20:20

I'm sure that if this were my family, I'd tell my son (who will have the burden of King sooner rather than later) to spend precious time with his family while he can.

You do realise none of them do more than two months FT equivalent in a year?

It's so incredibly grim. And it's not the republicans buying the hello magazines with Charlotte on the cover or wanting small children paraded in public.

Exactly, she moved schools. They had the money to do so.

Poor old KC at that hideous place, damaged.

Not sure if that's aimed at me but I genuinely do feel sorry for the children. Being wheeled out like zoo animals as a distraction whenever there's a hint of scandal. They're props. They'll never be able to have a normal life - their exam results will be reported to the entire nation, we'll know all about their first relationships, they won't be able to drink a few too many tequilas in a student union bar and make a tit out of themselves. If they try and have a normal career they'll be constantly targeted by those keen to exploit their royal connections. If they stay in the firm they've got a life of the same goldfish bowl. Then they'll get married and the cycle will start all over again with their children.

Poor kids who will inherit billions and never want for anything.

Imagine being forced to shake hands with clergy. The horror 😱
