Since there is a flurry of discussion on another thread its probably best to create a thread for it to take place here and not derail another one.

So William is not attending a number of important events the recent one being the VJ day..lots of you think he should have after all he is the future King and if he can't make time for these things then it begs the question what is the point of them?

So discuss away...what should he turning up to, what is his actual role if he starts to not do these types of things...

I started this thread since eon the Harry wreath thread people started discussing Williams absence and since Mumsnet has a guidelines about derailing threads I felt since people are discussing it start one up.

So yes if you want to further discuss Harry costing us money please start a new thread so as not to derail this one as per the forum guidelines.

You mentioned the Sussex’s before, I’m just agreeing with a post that was replying to another posters post.
so unless you are going to ask everyone on this post to stop mentioning them ( you included) why are you highlighting my post ?

Yes, someone mentions Harry or Meghan directly, yet according to some, we're forbidden to mention them when we respond! 😂 Very odd.

LifeOfAShowGirl · 20/08/2025 14:57

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/08/2025 14:55

Absolutely this

In any case, even were they to share details of their treatment it would never be enough and the manic speculation would just start up again - only this time with things like "My loved one had such-and-such and x,y and z didn't happen, so they must be lying"

You will never stop speculation.

What you can stop, is people wondering why they’re able to skip memorial events for those who died during the war, but they can turn up to Wimbledon and the football.

hangerup · 20/08/2025 14:58

@LidlAmaretto indeed

They are people though aren’t they? Or do you think they are not entitled to basic human rights.

It’s a shame William didn’t think about the basic human rights of some of his tenants living in mouldy, damp homes on the Duchy estates.

So direct that to the person who wrongly claimed Harry isn't costing us anything.
It's perfectly fine to respond reasonably to any post.

Bringing up 3 children in your 30s and early 40s is not 'doing little' as any parent will tell you!

Is this a joke?

Do you know how many staff they have working for them? It has increased recently and I think is near 70.

Of course this is not all nannies
Of course it isn't just staff to take over parental duties. But it is Private Secretaries, shoppers, household staff, cooks, cleaners, dressers, maids, trainers

At any one time, they can have whatever help they want to assist them in their daily life, just ask.

So please don't compare them to ordinary parents bringing up 3 children! That is laughable!

I believe that when you want all of the luxuries of royalty, things like that need to be made public. Especially when they will be stopping you from working.

What do you do for a living?
normaly I wouldn’t be so nosy but obviously I need to gauge whether I’m entitled to know your personal health information.

I work in the private sector, but in any event - if I want to not go to work, I do generally have to tell my employers why I am off sick!

They have staff to do literally everything. I’d imagine that during Covid they also had tutors etc to help with the children.

You don't get to police the thread.

I just gave the exact response that you see on the "Meghan is breathing wrong" threads when someone mentions Andrew. Good to know that counts as policing 😆

Right. Well that's got nothing to do with me. Completely irrelevant.
I directly responded to someone's post about a specific point, and you told to "start your own thread".
Not nice.

hangerup · 20/08/2025 15:05

Not nice.

Are you new here? 😆😆

jumpingthehighjump · 20/08/2025 15:06

But this thread for once has nothing to do with Harry. He is not a working member of the royal family. He lives thousands of miles away. He did a VJ Dedication and arranged a wreath. He would not be expected to attend any UK VJ day events.
I think it is very fair to suggest starting yet another thread about Harry if posters want to go down that well worn path.

hangerup · 20/08/2025 15:07

There are plenty of threads for sycophants and die hards. There are plenty of threads to curse H&M. It's ok to have a thread for people who dislike the Royals, if it distresses fans why read it?

I certainly aim to join in discussions in a respectful way. I don't tell people to start their own thread because I don't like a specific response to a specific point made by a poster.

I'm bored of Harry, I don't care about Harry, can we have one thread without Harry 😆

I don’t even think anything very upsetting has been said. It’s all been pretty measured criticism.

You do not have to publicly announce it to everyone at the company and give all the details though do you!
or are you saying that you have to make a company wide statement telling everyone that you have for example “ ibs and violent and persistent diarrhoea “ 🙄

hangerup · 20/08/2025 15:11

Yes, I don't know why people raised the issue of Harry, especially with incorrect information. It was bound to lead to further posts.
It would be nice for him not to have been included in this.

Generally the people within my team will be told “Life is off because of a cold/the flu/XYZ” to give an indication of timescales for return.

In the case of the monarchy, I think if it’s going to affect your work to this degree, a year on, you need to be honest about it. Because otherwise it has the situation we have ended up with. They look as though they are hiding behind the diagnosis to excuse skipping events (such as VJ Day), and only turning up to the ones they enjoy.

Probably not - slagging off Harry and Meghan is one of the few things keeping the monarchy going at the minute. They can use them to deflect from being slum landlords, links with Epstein, missing occasions (but not Wimbledon) etc etc. Look over there, Meghan’s selling wine, what a greedy capitalist vapid attention seeker she is.

FridayFeelingmidweek · 20/08/2025 15:14

The monarchy needs to be dismantled. They all seem like nice enough people but it's a relic of the past and not part of modern life now. William genuinely does come across as very lazy and indifferent. And that's fine if he wants to stop the tx finded life he leads.

Even with Kate's cancer treatment, I think it's very jarring for the public for her to say 'take it easy/take my time getting back to things/etc' (and really good for her that she can do this) but anyone I know who has had cancer hasn't had a choice but to go back to work, get on with the cost of living crisis, juggle kids etc. I think she's been very tone deaf on this issue.

Yes, as someone pointed out earlier, they seem to manage to go to the events they want to like Wimbledon.
