Since there is a flurry of discussion on another thread its probably best to create a thread for it to take place here and not derail another one.

So William is not attending a number of important events the recent one being the VJ day..lots of you think he should have after all he is the future King and if he can't make time for these things then it begs the question what is the point of them?

So discuss away...what should he turning up to, what is his actual role if he starts to not do these types of things...

It always baffles me how royalists are so quick to point out how difficult the royal family’s lives are and yet still want the institution to continu

Quite, I would hate to be Royal & never want my dc to be in that position.

Loads of people manage to do it while also doing full time jobs…

And most also do it without having had a nanny for 11 years!

hangerup · 20/08/2025 14:41

in this day and age I am yet to see anyone “forelock” tugging.

😆😆

@HerLivingontheHil post is a prime example l

this whole thread is dripping with delight at sticking the boot in, and as always well timed when Harry is being criticised

Tosh. Harry arranged for a wreath and a very well thought out dedication on VJ Day which is far more than William did with his brief SM message.
There is no reason for Harry to be criticised for his VJ day dedication so this thread has absolutely nothing to do with Harry. So rubbish to talk of it being 'well timed'.
It is a thread about why in god's name William couldn't spare part of a day to honour VJ Day given he will become Head of the Armed Forces in probably a reasonably short time.

Try as you might, Harry has nothing to do with this. It's William who is missing, not Harry

Tutorpuzzle · 20/08/2025 14:42

But it’s not ‘pointless speculation’ @Wackadaywideawake to discuss a publicly funded institution represented by a demonstrably work-shy participants.

I don’t care why they never do any work, I just don’t want to be paying them to not do it!

Kindling1970 · 20/08/2025 14:44

The royals are a waste of money. Yes Harry moans too much and should have just slunk away but at least we aren’t paying for him anymore. William wanting to prioritise family is fine but doing less than 2 days a week of work on average is appalling when most people work full time for far less money than he ‘earns’. I’m happy for the royals to do less but massive slim down your houses, expenses, money taken to make up for it.

Off with their heads! Pointless inbred spongers.

Harry is criticised constantly so that wouldn't leave many days in which to (rightfully) criticise William for not showing up and doing his duty.
Harry is a plonker IMO but I think his statement was fine and it's really not relevant. William is next in line to the throne FGS!

LifeOfAShowGirl · 20/08/2025 14:45

I do think, ultimately, if they wish to survive into the future as an institution, they need to start being a lot more honest about what is happening.

I think both Charles and Kate should share their diagnoses. I know a lot will disagree, but we are living in a time when the ordinary person cannot be seen by their GP until it is too late, they don’t have access to top of the line healthcare and they cannot afford to work part time! Simple, swift press releases stating what they are would be enough.

They also need to be more honest if they’re not attending things like this. I’m sure it would have drawn a lot more attention if they’d said something along the lines of “the prince and princess of wales won’t be at a public memorial today because they are commemorating this privately with their children”. It’s short and sweet but does enough.

at the end of the day, they’re meant to work for us.

We are paying for Harry, we paid for his security when he came for his last court case, which was all about getting limitless taxpayers' funded security as and when he chooses to visit the UK. The case was against the Home Office. Our money.

KatherineParr · 20/08/2025 14:31

I don't think it's fair to criticise William's staff. They can advise him what events to attend/not attend but William and Kate will have the final call on what they do, and they shouldn't really need to be told that the VJ anniversary was a big deal.

I agree completely, KatherineParr, but disposing of advisers as a way to deflect responsibility from the royal themselves would be nothing new

They are people though aren’t they? Or do you think they are not entitled to basic human rights.

No. I'm not going to start a thread about it. I'm responding directly to @Kindling1970 and her incorrect claim that Harry doesn't cost us anything. You don't get to police the thread.

I believe that when you want all of the luxuries of royalty, things like that need to be made public. Especially when they will be stopping you from working.

Absolutely this

In any case, even were they to share details of their treatment it would never be enough and the manic speculation would just start up again - only this time with things like "My loved one had such-and-such and x,y and z didn't happen, so they must be lying"

Or join the hundreds of pages of threads about Harry and Meghan clogging up the RF board, covering every tiny thing they do! They are irrelevant. They will hhave no role in the Monarchy or the country in the future. They are made relevant by people who are obsessed with them, pore over every detail of every little thing they do and go on and on about them endlessly, creating the publicity they say Harry and Meghan ( particularly Meghan) craves.

You mentioned the Sussex’s before, I’m just agreeing with a post that was replying to another posters post.
so unless you are going to ask everyone on this post to stop mentioning them ( you included) why are you highlighting my post ?
