Since there is a flurry of discussion on another thread its probably best to create a thread for it to take place here and not derail another one.

So William is not attending a number of important events the recent one being the VJ day..lots of you think he should have after all he is the future King and if he can't make time for these things then it begs the question what is the point of them?

So discuss away...what should he turning up to, what is his actual role if he starts to not do these types of things...

But KC still attended hundreds of events annually when he was PC
PW attends very very few events for a senior royal. Extraordinarily few for the heir to the throne.

he attends fewer events than any other senior royal. He is extremely entitled and has no concept that with the phenomenal privilege comes a huge sacrifice. Or it should. But he and his family choose to take all the privileges but not the duty.

So if they dont have to do these engagements what do they do as Royals? What is the point of them? Will he modernise it when he is King and request a change in law to the sovereign grant so it is lowered to reflect the fact he doesnt want to do much? Will he hand over the estates so they can become self funded through tourism etc. Will he be able to survive on his duchy income alone then?

At the moment it doesnt point that way so far its having your cake and eat it, maybe he cant do these things now well if thats the case than for now donwhat you should be doing until you can change it.

After all many of us have to work 40 or 50 yrs of our lives ...at this rate if he waits until he is King to step up it'll be far less than his subjects have to.

Shouldn't the Royals be doing more for us and our country.

They do nothing.

The queen didn’t step in when parliament was unlawfully suspended by Boris Johnson. Their fundraising efforts are minimal compared to their wealth.

Cynic17 I have been through Cancer treatment around the same time as Kate. It is greulling and exhausting .Kate may or may not be having more treatment we dont know .However everyone is different in their recovery, as explained by my Cancer Nurse .It is not possible to "show other cancer patients who may be ill or exhausted "this is how its done!" Everyone is different .PW is putting his young family first.I have great respect for the late Queen .However she was frowned upon by many for leaving Charles as a baby .They cant do wrong for doing right! He is on a family holiday and deserves time off like anyone else .Also Kate needs moral support .KC is a more senior Royal and as King must appear at these events .

Who do you think was bothered?

As for wanting to chnage if and be smaller fine go do that, let's take back the hundreds of.millions we give them for the sovereign grant

Not even a royalist but its pretty easy to find out where the sovereign grant comes from- rather than taking back you just mean let them keep less of their own money?

The government takes that money instead of making them pay inheritance tax. It would only take a couple of generations for their wealth to be taxed away/split between family members. I’m all for them keeping more of it (and paying income tax) and then paying 40% to the government with Charles dies… it’s not like they can off-shore it or move to Portugal on a golden visa!

They have an excellent deal in return for representing this country.

He has been known as ‘work-shy-Willy’ for over a decade and they willingly disappeared during covid! I do wonder how many of their current 77 ‘engagements’ are still happening on line.

I'm not sure what you are referring to.

I suspect it's all about this throwaway remark in one of the OP's many posts that may have understandably glazed your eyes over, @MrsLeonFarrell:

If we could just keep focus on William that would be ideal...he is the future King after all born into this role and if he dont want to do it ...well see ya later let someone who does have it.

It's not really very subtle. Just more of the silly neg-spin campaign against the future Head of State using the self-admitted drug-addled one as the figurehead. Comedy gold Grin

Is his father not undergoing active cancer treatment at the moment? Surely putting your family first also means looking after your dad, and ensuring he is able to rest?

If she can ski a black run she can cut a ribbon or two a week, it is hardly taxing

Oh the heart bleeds. He could easily step away and live life privately if he so wishes.

Surely he could be like us peasants, do a days work and then relax?

Thedom · 20/08/2025 12:28

Charles seems to be relishing his role as King, with Camilla by his side. It's possible he doesn't want William to 'help out', or take over duties from him. Charles seems to want to present an image that he remains very much in good health and his cancer treatment is not impacting him at all.

That's why we have carers and doctors????

Do you think up and down the land there are families where an elderly parent is ill?

I'm glad you were able to work part time during chemotherapy, I know some people suffer with very little side effects and can work full time.

As you'll be aware not all chemotherapy is the same, there are so many different drugs and strengths. My first lot of chemotherapy wasn't too bad, I didn't have that many side effects and was able to work part time, but my second lot of drugs was awful. I had every side effect going and had to give up work completely. Once treatment was finished I took early retirement.

Cancer treatment affects us all differently but I would never judge someone for how much or how little they are able to do once treatment finishes.

I already said we are all different, not sure why you’ve laboured that point back to me?

She managed Wimbledon though.

If that is the case then do you agree then that only rhe Kinf and Queen should have access to tax payers money then to fund their role. Others should self fund their lives until they step into that role..after all William get millions every year in private income...?

Again. He is choosing to not do engagements, which he could do in the king’s place.

I’d love to see them actually do a full 9-5 days work. Or a long shift as a doctor. All that money and education, and what do they do with it?

HerLivingontheHill · 20/08/2025 11:07

Currently undergoing extensive chemo, managed to work part time throughout, just goes to show we are all different.
But she managed Wimbledon valiantly!

@BlankBlankBlank14 I'm really sorry to hear of your own cancer, but you must surely understand that everyone reacts differently?

One of the main side effects of cancer treatment can be how it affects the bowels - urgency for example. Being on show in public could be a nightmare.

Likewise, anyone on treatment has good and bad days.

Extensive surgery can leave lasting issues not visible to anyone else.

I don't think anyone should make veiled snide comments about another person, Royal or otherwise, on how they are coping with cancer treatment or the after-effects. Some treatments are brutal and can leave permanent damage. Imagine having a TV camera focused on your every move and expression.

I hope you make a full recovery.

Edited

If Kate had any of these issues, why would she sit in public view for a potential five set men's Wimbledon final. Some of these matches can go on hours.

Why not just side line herself until she's well. Don't pick and choose. Disappear if that's what you need to do.

William does not need to be by her side all the time. Step up and work you lazy sod. Kate apparently has a very close family of origin, loads of help and the best medical care. Do you think she's waiting for months to be tested, I'd imagine she has an on call doctor to check her all the time. Lets not pretend she's like you or I.

It goes without saying that I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone but using it as an excuse to be work shy is having a laugh, I'm looking at William more than Kate. William needs to step up. Their performance pre cancer is also not helping.

And help your aging, actively fighting cancer, dad. There's no excuse. Duty my a**e.

Nestingbirds · 20/08/2025 12:36

I thought the same, but came to a different conclusion. I assumed Kate was/is very ill again and that is why he isn’t around.

If it is not on health grounds then yes I entirely agree, he is not fit to be King and should step aside.

Seagullsandsausagerolls · 20/08/2025 12:37

It was thas "last" major anniversary survivors were likely be able to attend. He absolutely should have been there even if Kate was unable to attend, she'd hardly have been alone between staff, her mum, her sister. They should be bloody thankful for those who gave their life, health and sanity for their freedom. My husband's grandfather was a POW and it impacted all the family relationships his wife, sons, daughters and grandchildren all their relationships were tested due to what he suffered.

It was no better than Harry attending the Lion King premiere. Bunch of spoilt lazy arses who need a reality check.

If most Mners saw Cathy who worked in the CO on a skiing holiday when she was off sick they'd have broke a limb running to phone PIP and Universal Credit.

There has been nothing communicated to say this, and she was well at Wimbledon. She recently posted a video to say she’s spending the summer with family. By all accounts she is doing well and this is a choice from them to spend time with the family.

I’ve seen threads on here going at the OP for going to the supermarket while off sick! Let alone going skiing and to Wimbledon.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/08/2025 12:38

I do think William will have to start doing more engagements if he wants to keep public opinion from turning against him.

Just to throw in another thought, @ARichtGoodDram, what if he doesn't care?

As things stand there's nothing to stop him doing the very minimum he can get away with while enjoying the endless privileges and money, and with so many either pro monarchy or ambivalent who's going to tell him he can't?

IcedPurple · 20/08/2025 12:39

Also, it's not like this is a one off. He and Kate have a long history of doing the bare minimum. They might have got away with it when the children were very small and William was not yet PoW, but that ship has sailed.

If he doesn’t care their demise will be swift. We can’t have a country suffering and an indifferent monarchy.
