The royal family

Do you think some of you are addicted to hating Harry and Meghan?

More and more these manic threads are popping up on mumsnet, wild posts and theories and then hundreds of posts brimming with excitement about catching them out or exposing them. It’s like a game or a hunt. Have many of you crossed the line from interested to addicted?

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 11/05/2025 09:43

I think their fans/squad/stans are addicted to hating on the ones who dare criticise their beloved Sussexes to be honest 🤷🏼‍♀️

BlondiePortz · 11/05/2025 09:45

Well i would say people that start threads on them would appear to be?

Really? I don’t see them so much on here. It’s just so passionate and all about two people who haven’t got any relevance to every day life.

Perhaps look in the mirror? You started a thread on the haters.

Yes. It’s unhealthy.

You must be blind if you don’t t see it

Two people spend an absolute fortune on PR, have made an absolute fortune selling themselves and others. Of course they are talked about, they want to be talked about, unfortunately only in the spreading joy. They are the gift that keeps giving for anyone with a love of psychology. They are amazing but for me not in the same way as supporters feel.

CoffeeCantata · 11/05/2025 12:01

No, I don't, OP.

I'm interested in H & M because I'm interested in history. (Stay with me here for a minute.....you did ask the question, and I'm doing you the courtesy of answering it

I've always been fascinated by British history in particular, and constitutional history. The unique UK system of govt has evolved over centuries and we've never had the type of traumatic and bloody revolution which France and Russia had. Why not? The Civil War and the Glorious Revolution, in which it was established finally that parliament was sovereign, were the best we could manage - thank goodness.

I'm interested in anything which affects our system of govt, large and small. The monarchy survived the First World War (unlike the empires of Germany and Russia, amongst others) and adapted. The abdication crisis of 1936 was a wobbly moment. And recently, the shenanigans of two very shallow, dim and ill-informed people has the power to do so again, as we've seen.

That's the root of my interest. The fact that a 3rd-rate cable actress and one of the dimmest royals have formed an unholy alliance with the (almost) declared aim of destablising the UK monarchy is extremely sensational and interesting to me. I think Harry is so bitter and has been so brainwashed, and that Meghan has her own agenda but both would like to see the end of the monarchy. Meghan is consumed with jealousy about Catherine and Harry about William, and they seem to be forever seeking publicity for their antics.

It's not great to have the UK system rubbished on a global stage. If we ever become a republic, it should be based on better reasons than the petty jealousies of two annoying people. I wish they'd go off and live the private lives they claimed to be so desperate for.

That's why I follow their activities. You can choose to believe me or not!

Quite. The recent case of one of the Sussex Squad member ranting and getting kicked out off the RAVEC hearing and causing Harry to be rushed out for his own safety indicates addiction/stalking/obsessive behaviour.

And I’ve just seen a poster on the Thomas Markle thread refer to someone as an arsehole for not sharing their opinion (I’m guessing they were pro Meghan considering their stance).

The Sussex stans are so unhealthy and cross so many lines.

Madcatdudette · 11/05/2025 12:23

Some people have a ‘passion’ for the RF. There is nothing wrong with it, people are passionate over football. You wouldn’t say it’s unhealthy or the fans have nothing to do in their lives.
H&M are now the opposition and are just slagging ff their old team.
You get fans and haters, it’s normal. You don’t have to get your knickers in a twist about it.

333FionaG · 11/05/2025 12:26

I find the Harry and Megan threads uncomfortable reading and tend to avoid them. Sometimes I’ll relent, and check in, only to find the obsessive ranting and utter disdain for the pair continues unbridled. It’s disconcerting.

jeffgoldblum · 11/05/2025 12:29

This thread is clearly set up to insult people critical of m and h !
im assuming to distract people from the less than supportive stories coming out after Harry’s security tantrum.

stayathomer · 11/05/2025 12:30

There’s an Irish dj who moved over to the uk and he said the maddest thing was the hate messages he got because he mentioned he’d seen Meghan out one day and she seemed like a nice friendly lady, he said it was almost scary how the screens filled with people wanting him to know ‘the truth’ about her.

Yup. We can see right through it. People are allowed to have opinions other than gushing. If they do something foolish, mean or funny, people are going to talk about it. It’s part and parcel of being a public figure.

A thread to criticise those they accuse of criticising people who like to criticise 🥴

It’s really not! I’m not a royal watcher by nature but am pro royal I suppose. I wouldn’t want a republic.

I stumble across the threads on Royal ever so often and find the devotion to watching any antics bizarre. The obsession to hate isn’t healthy whoever it’s against but they pair seem to have become a hobby for some. I’m wondering if anyone ever stands back and thinks ‘hold on, what am I doing?’.

I find them fascinating. I'm inclined to think they're as fake as fake can be and he's very dim. The speculation that the children don't exist is bonkers. Not convinced she birthed either of them, but maybe she did.

Reallyhowisthatthecase333 · 11/05/2025 12:45

I agree wholeheartedly op! And I’m not even a great H & M fan.

Some people seem to spend huge chunks of their day speculating and gossiping in a nasty way about this couple, Looking at all of these threads collectively; it is not a pleasant read, and yet when challenged, many of these same posters claim that the discussions are reasonable, well informed and intelligent! Whereas I would use the adjectives: obsessed, prejudiced and unhinged!

They claim to know more about Harry and Meghan, their inner thoughts, their motivations, their finances, their friends and families, their pregnancies and their parenting capabilities, than Harry and Meghan know themselves!

It’s got beyond ridiculous.

Anyone with half a brain can see that the on-line news sites are making fortunes out of this pair and the RF threads seem to blindly follow in the wake of a narrative set by the Daily Mail and others. Not terribly edifying to put it mildly!

And I would suggest that anyone who finds themselves mirroring the same actions as the rabid Piers Morgan, needs to look in the mirror and question themselves very sternly!

There are many claims of it being justified by an interest in history, an interest in the couple themselves, or an interest in PR, but at a basic level, its delight in rather vile gossip, with people forgetting that there are real people at the centre of it who have young children.

Harry and Meghan and everyone else who writes about them so obsessively, and posters on the RF boards, and myself, would all be better off ignoring them totally and leaving them in peace and refraining from further comment. You don’t have to like them, or approve of what they are doing, just leave them alone fhs!

Very fair point op and it needs saying 👏

CoffeeCantata
I second this.

CurlewKate · 11/05/2025 12:52

Has there ever been a pro H&M thread on Mumsnet?

Ketzele · 11/05/2025 13:03

I think having strong opinions on H and M is the hallmark of an absolute saddo.
