More and more these manic threads are popping up on mumsnet, wild posts and theories and then hundreds of posts brimming with excitement about catching them out or exposing them. It’s like a game or a hunt. Have many of you crossed the line from interested to addicted?

People will generally have an opinion on things which are in the news or on tv or social media. That may be positive or negative.
The thing with H&M is that they live their lives very much in the media, and this is their choice. Therefore people will form views.
H&M want them to form views. They want public adoration in order to gain access to their cash ie to sell jam, books, tv series, podcasts, edible flowers etc.
They also want to sway public opinion in order to put pressure on the RF and the PM so as to gain access to the public purse.
Unfortunately for H&M you cannot fool all of the people all of the time and the sun has well and truly set on any positives of their “brand”.
If they simply got on with their lives there would be little or no interest in them but the constant launches, speeches and crusades all filled with pretension and entitlement are just too much of a car crash to ignore.
They had enormous public goodwill at the start of their relationship and have systematically drained every last drop to the current position as figures of fun and disdain.

CalicoPusscat · 11/05/2025 13:12

I read about a lot of things.

With H/M it's because they can be confusing or amusing, no hate. I generally only read about them though when someone says about their antics.

It’s really not! I’m not a royal watcher by nature but am pro royal I suppose. I wouldn’t want a republic.

I stumble across the threads on Royal ever so often and find the devotion to watching any antics bizarre. The obsession to hate isn’t healthy whoever it’s against but they pair seem to have become a hobby for some. I’m wondering if anyone ever stands back and thinks ‘hold on, what am I doing?’.

Obsession to hate???
why the dramatic use of these words?
do you think posters will be ashamed by these comments!
criticism of bullying behaviour and constant lies is not hate !
Reading and commenting on yet more ridiculous stories of their behaviour is not obsessed!

perhaps you would prefer posters to ignore all behaviour and reports and stick their heads in the sand?

CurlewKate · 11/05/2025 12:52

Has there ever been a pro H&M thread on Mumsnet?

I’m surprised that you would actually post this!!!
you have been here long enough to know that there has in fact been many!!
and that anyone criticising was hounded of in the past with cries of racism!

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 11/05/2025 13:18

I guess South Park, Family Guy, SNL and The Windsors are all addicted to hating on them too 🤭

potplants · 11/05/2025 13:20

I think meghan all right.
Meghan or kate i`ll go with meghan.

CoffeeCantata · 11/05/2025 13:21

And just to add...

As well as the historical perspective, yes - I confess I'm fascinated by the psychology. Meghan displays the features of an absolute textbook narcissist and it's jaw-dropping to see her operate.

Look up the features of narcissism and you'll be able to tick them off!

I absolutely wouldn't say this if she and Harry were living as private citizens, but they court publicity as though it's oxygen. If you do that, you really cannot complain when people take an interest - and you need to be able to take the rough with the smooth, or get out of the spotlight.

Also - they have dished out the spite, and made big claims for themselves as philanthropists and campaigners, so lots of people will rightly feel they deserve to be held up to scrutiny.

I think their fans/squad/stans are addicted to hating on the ones who dare criticise their beloved Sussexes to be honest 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oh please 🙄

Not everyone is part of a squad fhs!

BusyExpert · 11/05/2025 13:23

to me they represent all the worst aspects about society today. Shallow, disloyal, superficial, hypocritical.
I just wish they would STFU , go away and never be written about again.

I wouldn’t bother @CoffeeCantata!
these threads don’t get started for meaningful discussions, they are to attempt to shut down criticism with shaming and insults!
and they all start with “ I’m not really a fan of h and m but”

Pleasealexa · 11/05/2025 13:26

They are the gift that keeps giving for anyone with a love of psychology

This is definitely a factor. Commentators spend time analysing the interviews, & tell all books because their behaviour is at times bizarre. I am interested from a psychology perspective, as in do they have self awareness?

H&M crave publicity more than most celebrities as I can't think of another celeb who has revealed as much about themselves and lives?
The publicity works, they get the coverage but unfortunately most of it is perceived negatively.

Reallyhowisthatthecase333 · 11/05/2025 13:28

I think it’s a bit disingenuous to say “we comment because they court publicity all of the time” because even when they did go quiet for a period after the birth of their second child, the press stories, and the threads on here, kept on coming.

And that is precisely why rich people get away with crimes and the government pass harmful legislation!

you go and pretend everything is sunshine and roses and the rest of us will read reports form opinions and make sure things are not hidden.

NicolaSturgeon · 11/05/2025 13:29

Ahm pure fuming.

Particularly the 3rd-rate cable actress aspect; fancy!! If someone must dismantle the monarchy it would be much more decent to do it with at least some PBS or even ABC under one's belt, not ... not ... just ... USA !!!!!! 😡

Rummly · 11/05/2025 13:30

I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed, but I do like to scan the latest threads.

News about Harry and Meghan is a bit like seeing You’ve Been Framed is on the telly, or in the old days That’s Life! or Beadle’s About. You know you shouldn’t watch and laugh at mishaps and oddballs, but there’s something compelling about them.

So it’s really about H&M being a guilty pleasure for their comedy capers.

They are never quiet!!
even when they are not overtly parading themselves, their mouthpieces and pr are feeding titbits to the media!
Or did you think scoobie got all his inside information from a clairvoyant!!!

I believe Harry said that he wrote Spare having read so many other people’s versions of his life, and he put everything out there so there were no more stories to discover. So he was, rather naievely, trying to put an end to stories, not trying to encourage more of them. And to be fair, I think we would all feel the urge to do that if we had read endless incorrect stories written about ourselves.

He thought people would write about him smearing Elizabeth Arden on his penis while thinking of his mother????
how would anyone else know that?

I think both sides are fucking mental

Harry and Meghan wont give a rats arse what randoms on mn think of them

I don't think William and Kate care very much either, tbh

Oh! Silly me! 😄 This is all a protest against the rich now!

So you direct as much criticism at the Royal Family then jeffgoldblum
as you do at H & M?

Bumpitybumper · 11/05/2025 13:42

I never post on these threads but there is definitely something intriguing about Megan and Harry. Instinctively I feel like she is disingenuous and trying to act her way through life. It just all feels very incongruous and I think humans are fine tuned to generally detect when other humans aren't being their true selves and are being deceptive. Everyone has different radars though that operate slightly differently so it isn't a universal thing but it's definitely wide spread enough that there is something in it.

Harry just comes across as spoiled, naive and a bit thick. He was certainly taken in by her initially but I think even he is starting to question it all.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that they are quite unusual characters playing out their lives on a public stage. It is intriguing and interesting for us to watch. I wouldn't say people 'hate' them but it is obvious that all is not how it seems or what they are desperate to portray.

Munnygirl · 11/05/2025 13:43

Reallyhowisthatthecase333 · 11/05/2025 12:45

I agree wholeheartedly op! And I’m not even a great H & M fan.

Some people seem to spend huge chunks of their day speculating and gossiping in a nasty way about this couple, Looking at all of these threads collectively; it is not a pleasant read, and yet when challenged, many of these same posters claim that the discussions are reasonable, well informed and intelligent! Whereas I would use the adjectives: obsessed, prejudiced and unhinged!

They claim to know more about Harry and Meghan, their inner thoughts, their motivations, their finances, their friends and families, their pregnancies and their parenting capabilities, than Harry and Meghan know themselves!

It’s got beyond ridiculous.

Anyone with half a brain can see that the on-line news sites are making fortunes out of this pair and the RF threads seem to blindly follow in the wake of a narrative set by the Daily Mail and others. Not terribly edifying to put it mildly!

And I would suggest that anyone who finds themselves mirroring the same actions as the rabid Piers Morgan, needs to look in the mirror and question themselves very sternly!

There are many claims of it being justified by an interest in history, an interest in the couple themselves, or an interest in PR, but at a basic level, its delight in rather vile gossip, with people forgetting that there are real people at the centre of it who have young children.

Harry and Meghan and everyone else who writes about them so obsessively, and posters on the RF boards, and myself, would all be better off ignoring them totally and leaving them in peace and refraining from further comment. You don’t have to like them, or approve of what they are doing, just leave them alone fhs!

I’m not a fan but….. . You may want to remember that it was one of their fans who made an appearance in court to “support “ Harry Styles hi was then ushered away
