The royal family

Do you think some of you are addicted to hating Harry and Meghan?

More and more these manic threads are popping up on mumsnet, wild posts and theories and then hundreds of posts brimming with excitement about catching them out or exposing them. It’s like a game or a hunt. Have many of you crossed the line from interested to addicted?

And the media lap it up! No one tells them to publish these stories that are apparently fed to them, or to go on their Instagram account or to watch Meghans Netflix show. They do it because the traffic these two bring to any site is absolutely huge. Traffic brings them money. Traffic comes overwhelmingly from people saying ' why won't they go away?' ' Why are they doing this/that/fake pregnancy blah blah blah' How much have they actually done ( particularly Meghan who seems to be doing her own thing yet gets the blame for Harry's behaviour) They are still doing stories about the wedding ffs 7 years ago. If the people obsessed with every single thing these people did stopped commenting endlessly on every little thing, they would go away too. It's ridiculous to say that the interest is because they are trying bring down the Monarchy. God if the 5th in line to the throne and his wife can bring down an establishment like the Monarchy that has the entire British establishment protectingvthem then they must know some pretty horrific things. More horrific than being constanyly being taken in by sex offenders, plotting with Hitler, The King slagging off his own parents, multiple affairs and divorces etc etc. If anything, they are human shields, protecting the Monarchy from too much scrutiny.

I’m not sure what this post has to do with posters being accused of obsessive and addicted behaviour for commenting on the behaviour and antics of h and m?
if they stop fannying about the media will have nothing of interest to print and people will be less inclined to comment!
some will of course but that is up to them, labelling all posters because of the behaviour of some is bad whichever side of the fence they are on!

TheAutumnCrow · 11/05/2025 14:10

I've reported this (i.e. the thread title, the opening post, and the thread). It is so very 'Not In The Spirit Of Mumsnet'.

And on a Sunday! I've had to alert the church elders.

I don't hate them, like I would anybody, I wish them well. However, I can't deny that I find some of their behaviour and decisions absolutely fascinating. It's a bit like a soap opera to be honest. So I agree, it's compulsive reading, but I don't hate them. They're just people, ultimately flawed and fallible

This is my position too, with the addition that I am also fascinated by the Shakespean tragedy elements - flawed hero and heroine (lack of self knowledge, distorted view of their own importance); individual character traits which combine to propel the action forward (belief they are always right, constant court cases; creation of family feuds); two innocents caught in the crossfire (Archie and Lili); other, worthier royals in supporting roles to provide a mirror for the hero and heroine (William and Kate); jesters with bit parts (James Cordon and Prince Louis); a chorus providing commentary (the media, YouTubers and influencers); splendid jewels and costumes; the overarching theme of exiles banished from a golden kingdom; lavish sets (ancient palaces and a Californian millionaire/billionaire enclave); the dwindling fortunes of the hero and heroine.

foreverblowingbubbless · 11/05/2025 14:13

And now we have a thread with posters with new names or new posters who never normally look at the RF threads but just happened to see this one and who come on to repeat all the same old shite abuse. Funny that isn't it? Cowards.

drivinmecrazy · 11/05/2025 14:14

I kind of agree with this thread.

Harry and Her Majesty Megan are really becoming Andrew.

we all agree that there is nothing more to be said about the Duke of York.
pretty much the same can be said of the Duke of Sussex.

we all know he’s a tool.
we all know his happy life is a charade.

not sure there’s much more to say.

Mind you, having said that I check the RF board every morning because it makes me larf.

that is all.

jeffgoldblum · 11/05/2025 13:28

And that is precisely why rich people get away with crimes and the government pass harmful legislation!

you go and pretend everything is sunshine and roses and the rest of us will read reports form opinions and make sure things are not hidden.

What crimes have they committed? If anything the whole circus is distracting from one member of the family who possibly did commit a crime.
How about Parliament not being able to discuss anything to do with the Royal Family? So the Royals can lobby to be exempted from legislation and it cannot be discussed? Yet it's more important to go on and on about a TV show in America that a private company has paid for!

That's it! Put more eloquently than I could hope to achieve!

No it isn’t funny. It really isn’t,

I am often on the RF threads but I change my nn all of the time since the hacking incidents.

Even if I didn’t do that, I would probably still change my name because I have seen other posters being bullied off those threads I’m
afraid. It’s really got that bad. So if that’s cowardly I will happily admit to it.

Using a different nn isn’t necessarily a subversive move. It’s about security and not being a constant target.

Snorlaxo · 11/05/2025 14:18

Why is it hate to follow and want to gossip about 2 people who want to be gossiped about ? And yes, their actions scream wanting to be talked about- interviews attacking people, podcasts, buying themselves awards… It’s very telling that the subject that people discuss the least is Meghan’s new business which is one of the few positive things they’ve attempted as it’s not based on their British side of the family.

It’s got to a point where the Daily Mail would write an article if Harry or Meghan farted in public but they are the gift that keeps on giving and keeping lots of journalists in work. They have PR and publicity experts and wanted to control their personal images after the move overseas. That’s presumably not being in the shadow of the Wales’

Snorlaxo · 11/05/2025 13:58

Lots of positive comments on Meghan’s fashion choices as a working royal.

You mean in the thread about royal clothes where the OP specifically asked for it to be non partisan?

Reallyhowisthatthecase333 · 11/05/2025 14:20

Tbh I think it is the height of cowardliness to report this thread and not let it stand.

If all the anti H&M threads are legitimate, then what are you afraid of?

EasternStandard · 11/05/2025 14:20

CurlewKate · 11/05/2025 13:49

I have literally never seen a pro H&M thread started. I have seen a few pro H&M posts. And I have seen people posting critically about W&C being characterised as pro H&M. But a pro H&M thread? Must have missed them.

Really? I don’t use the royal board much but I’ve seen them.

Agree with pp.

Well lying is never very good is it? And didn’t Megan “forget” some information regarding a court case? And here we go with the Andrew introduction. So tedious and boring. 😴

I’ve seen them too. They never get to be very long though before they are swamped with posters commenting negatively about them.

If you actually bothered to read the post I was replying to you would know the answer to this!!
but to make it easier for you as you seem to wish to pick on my posts in particular I will explain!

I said “ would posters prefer us to ignore articles and reports and stick our heads in the sand “

they replied “ yes I would prefer that actually “

obviously I was extremely surprised that someone would prefer that people didn’t read articles or reports!
it is afterall very important that people know what’s going on and who is up to no good!!!

if that poster was only inferring that it’s only articles and reports on Harry and Meghan that we should ignore, they didn’t clarify this!
Although I suppose that would make their bias obvious!

Baital · 11/05/2025 14:27

Most people in the public eye are good at managing their image (or find and take good advice). So.it is interesting and rather entertaining to see two people with this level of profile keep shooting themselves in the foot 😁

Gowlett · 11/05/2025 14:31

I enjoy celeb gossip, used to read Heat, Now! New! OK! back in the days of Circle Of Shame etc, before Perez Hilton was a thing.

I sometimes fixate on a particular celeb, much easier now with Insta, Tattle, online news / forums / reality TV. Meghan is fascinating!

I think even you could agree that your defence of keeping tabs on rich people would suggest that it applies to the RF as much as it does to H&M, when funnily enough, this doesn’t seem to be the case on these threads.

Totally. I was just thinking, why has her online run out of stock after the first initial sell-out? Which anyone in business could predict. Now, it’s been weeks… Hasn’t the whole venture lost traction? Surely, another “exclusive” drop with in hours / days would have been planned? As Ever all seems so amateurish…

jeffgoldblum · 11/05/2025 14:34

And @Tomatotater, as you are aware that I have been on the other thread not defending Andrew, remarking he should not be seen in public and referring to him as a twat!
im not sure what relevance your post has to me on this thread!

It wouldn't surprise me if As Ever has already been consigned to history.
