Prince William not in black at Pope's funeral

I think William made a big mistake in not wearing a black suit to the Pope's funeral.
I think it was a sign of disrespect, particularly as he's going to head of the Church of England.

I know the invite said dark suits for men, but everyone else - except Trump of course! - knew that black was expected, and it's not as if he doesn't have a black suit.

It’s a dark suit. What’s the issue?

Is it not a bit JD Vance to be picking on someone’s suit choice?

CanOfMangoTango · 26/04/2025 20:01

There were other people in navy, and not just Trump. Yes black was the majority but by no means all.

Lascivious · 26/04/2025 20:03

Good for him. There’s no expectation to wear black nowadays. The pope wouldn’t have cared.

Lindy2 · 26/04/2025 20:03

It was very dark navy with a black tie. It was exactly in line with the requested dress code. I think you're making a problem out of nothing.

Bontonbonbon · 26/04/2025 20:05

He worn navy to the queen’s funeral too (because he was in uniform). Charles worn a very dark blue suit to the funeral of Pope John Paul II

MrsBungle · 26/04/2025 20:07

I thought the same. At least he had a black tie. Trump didn’t even have a black tie. Maybe it’s just because I’m used to attending very traditional catholic funerals so I was a bit taken aback by the blue suit.

MakingPlans2025 · 26/04/2025 20:08

Oh my actual god who cares wow

Tryingtokeepgoing · 26/04/2025 20:09

Navy has been seen as an appropriate colour for suits worn at funerals for decades. What’s not acceptable is the lighter blue, reminiscent of a car salesman, worn by Donald Trump. But we know he has no class or style. Or brain 😂

smilesy · 26/04/2025 20:11

President Zelensky was in black, but he wasn’t wearing a suit and tie. Do you have a problem with that too?

BatchCookBabe · 26/04/2025 20:14

What a ludicrous thing to get worked up about!

I never wore black for the funeral(s) of my grandparents! That OK with you @Yellowdresses ?! Hmm I didn't know it was LAW to wear black to a funeral!

I bet @Yellowdresses would say 'do you even HAVE a suit?!' Wink

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 26/04/2025 20:28

I found the people taking photos of the coffin more disrespectful to be honest. It’s a funeral, not a photo op.

Dark suit and black tie was the specification, so he’s done nothing wrong. People are mad at Trump coz he wore a bright blue suit and blue tie. Biden also wore a blue suit and blue tie, just a shade darker. Zelensky wore black but didn’t wear a suit.

Women were also required to wear a black dress or suit with a head covering, yet Brigitte Macron and Giorgia Meloni opted not to cover her head 🤷🏼‍♀️

It seems that having a pop at William for not respecting church/ faith/ Christianity is the latest thing. Lord knows why.
In the last week he's been slated on here for not believing in God (according to 'sources'): not supporting his sick father at the Easter service; being too lazy to go to church at all on Easter Sunday; in fact, going to church on Easter Sunday but in Norfolk not Windsor; not greeting folk waiting for him to come out of the church he wasn't going to until he did....now he's wearing a disrespectfully dark blue suit. It's all very tedious.

belleager · 26/04/2025 20:31

Stops you from being mistaken for one of the thousands of priests in attendance, from a distance or from behind.

Also he is not Catholic Royalty so not "mourning" in the sense that they are. Seems fine.

My2cents1975 · 26/04/2025 20:33

The Sussex Squad is running with the "OMG...W wore a BLUE suit" line of attack on social media and it seems to have unsurprisingly popped up on MN. At some point the SS will realise that attacking W will not improve H&M's image or M's dismal podcast ratings. Until then, we can collectively roll our eyes at the "scandal".

On a lighter note, the fabricated blue suit drama reminds me of "tan-suit-gate" with President Obama...easily the worst "scandal" of his administration.

What did they think about the cardinals wearing red ?😬

🤣

I don’t think the Catholic Pope will really care that William is going to be Protestant head of the Church of England or vice versa, hate to break it to you 🤭

Haterz gonna hate! Wink

SlagPit · 26/04/2025 20:45

He's too lazy to even instruct his valet to choose a black suit for him. Probably sulking because he couldn't go to the Villa game.

TheAutumnCrow · 26/04/2025 20:46

I'd alert the church elders for you, OP, but I suspect they already know.

What an insightful comment 🙄

Maybe people have become bored slating Harry and now it's William's turn?

foreverblowingbubbless · 26/04/2025 20:47

Everyone else did not wear black suits. Look at the crowd.

Prince William not in black at Pope's funeral
binkie163 · 26/04/2025 20:50

At least he didn't take a selfie with the dead pope lying in state because even bishops and nuns were doing that. I think a navy suit is a lesser evil.

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 26/04/2025 20:50

I think someone is upset that their favourite didn’t get an invite to such an important, prestigious and historic event. They’re not deemed important enough 🤭
