@smilesy "She doesn’t have an original idea in her head. To be fair, there are very few things that are entirely new, but she does seem to have difficulty admitting that someone may have thought of a thing before she did. Hasn’t she been accused of plagerism somewhere along the line?"

Yes - she wrote an article about her experience of miscarriage which was seen to have plagiarised another woman's. There may be other examples, but that's the one I recall.

Thread 7 already!
I want to watch the rest of the episodes but with a reviewer's commentary on it too iyswim.
Any recommendations please

NCMJ · 07/03/2025 13:27

I haven't seen it yet but it all looks so beige - literally all the articles and screenshots of her in the show she's wearing shades of beige. I thought her initial complaint about fashion when she was part of the royal family was that she wasn't allowed to wear her bright colours and all her clothes were very pared back.

Thanks for the new thread @TheWayTheLightFalls . I now have a Shakira ear worm!

MissRoseDurward · 07/03/2025 13:34

She doesn’t have an original idea in her head.

I don't think she has sufficient in depth knowledge or expertise about anything. You have to understand why and how something works in the first place before you can start doing something different with it. (Which was where she went wrong with the RF, of course.)

Several pp have said that the filmography and the California landscape were lovely. More focus on that, with her taking the role of someone learning to manage a mini estate, rather than presenting herself as the expert, might have made a more interesting programme.

The only thing better than a panda msg shaker is 2 panda msg shakers 😁

jeffgoldblum · 07/03/2025 13:51

I have to agree!!!
The panda shakers really "elevate" the whole experience!🤣

FarmerDramaLlama · 07/03/2025 13:54

Back to the recipes. I wouldn’t have expected her to develop new dishes, she’s clearly not much of a cook, but there should have been one there. Developing stuff and making sure things came out looking good (cooked) I thought they were standard for cookery programmes.

FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger · 07/03/2025 14:24

Someone on the previous thread asked whether Clare Waight Keller had been sent some As Ever products (seen on an instagram picture) and mentioned they didn't have any expected product information on them. I've seen the Drew Barrymore interview, and MM says that CWK has come over to the States, and helped MM make the jammy dodger rip off cookies she brought on the show. So that picture was probably taken at MM's house.

That’s what I noticed too. So odd.

LetMeGoogleThat · 07/03/2025 14:50

I was watching the pasta recipe in the first episode, thinking it was familiar. It's straight from the Anna Jones cookbook.

Someone else commented on that. She’s leaving herself open to being sued.

FromTheOfficeOfJammyTodger · 07/03/2025 15:03

I very much doubt she will get sued. But she's solidified her reputation as a plagiarist with no original ideas. Eleanor Roosevelt will be spinning in her grave with glee.

bratsummer · 07/03/2025 15:45

It’s interesting that posters were drawing parallels with Jack Monroe (who is now allegedly earning £50k+ employed by her local council) as I was thinking about her earlier when it was pointed out that the essential oils in the bath salts might cause burns. JM published a book with thrifty kitchen hacks in and one was that if you didn’t have a tin opener you could use a hammer and knife to open a tin. Cue her publisher issuing a statement pdq!

YourWinter · 07/03/2025 15:48

Plagiarising phrases for her account of her miscarriage was a few years ago, I know - I do know - miscarriage is at best difficult and distressing. She was slated at the time for monetising her experience at someone else’s expense.

When you can’t think of something original to say, isn’t it best to stay silent?

I think the view is that as she hasn’t written it down there isn’t anything to sue over, but it’s just rude to use someone’s recipe so blatantly and not acknowledge the source.

I will say Anna Jones is a decent developer of recipes so it probably does taste very good.

Serenster · 07/03/2025 16:11

I made Anna Jone’s one pot kale pasta dish many years ago (so much so when I saw the description of Meghan’s Single Skillet Spaghetti it immediately bought it to mind). And it was perfectly nice - I would describe it as more than the sum of its parts - but it’s not something I’ve really remade.

Serenster · 07/03/2025 16:13

(People steal recipes all the time though in influencer land I think! It’s surely hard not to - there’s only so many ways you can put complementary favours together, unless you are Heston Blumenthal 😀 )

I did have a vegetarian cookbook by Anna Jones, I don’t think I used it a lot to be honest, too many awkward ingredients, living as I did in the middle of nowhere. This is one recipe I might well have tried, so it’s disappointing to hear it isn’t all that. Maybe it was elevated by the chilli, and basil leaf!

Me too! That's why I recognised it. It was nice, but was a one off event in this house too. Pretty sure it's one of the first in the book.
