Looks like William took George and Charlotte to see Taylor Swift for his birthday. Looks like Taylor was just as happy to meet them as they were to meet her.

I'm not attacking children though am I?
I'm stating that they have an abundance of opportunity to do things no other children will be able to do, not because of their parents' talents, but because of who their parents are.
Let's agree to disagree on the exact definition of the word 'spoilt.'

Don't you think that applies to any public figure who has pots of money??

smilesy · 22/06/2024 17:20

GenericWoman · 22/06/2024 17:10

I repeat just having wealth doesn’t make you “spoilt”

It depends what you mean by spoilt doesn't it?

Spoilt can mean 'ruined by pampering' or it can mean "given almost all of what they want because of excessive opportunities not open to others'.

The former does not equate with wealth necessarily but it is probably more likely.
Unless the parent is Scrooge, all children of the wealthy and all children of royalty will be spoilt in the latter sense.

They want to see Taylor Swift, so they get to see Taylor Swift.
They want to meet a famous hero footballer. They get to meet their hero.
They want to ice skate/learn to ride/learn to play polo/learn to play the piano, trombone, cello.
They want to wear nice clothes. They get to wear nice clothes.

This is fairly 'spoilt' in the latter sense as most children will have lots of things they want lke that but can never do because their parents can't afford it or don't have the opportunity to provide it (Taylor Swift meeting eg)

Royal children are therefore necessarily spoilt in the latter sense by the fact of excess wealth and excess opportunity open to them.

I don’t see it as being spoilt if they appreciate how lucky they are to be given those opportunities. Just like any other child or adult for that matter. I think most people would accept that definition of being spoilt. It ( being spoilt) definitely has negative connotations when applied to a child, even if the strict dictionary definition allows for another interpretation. That is just a handy get out clause for posters who want to have a pop at the royals by insinuating that they over indulge their children

Saying years after the fact "oh we did loads of hard work honestly. It's just that there's no evidence of it" doesn't really cut it,

He didn't say there was no evidence of it, simply that it wasn't publicised. Can you not see the difference?

Not in the context of what I was saying which is the Queen's philosophy that the royal family has to be seen to be believed. If William and Harry want me to believe they are doing hard work, then it's not enough to just say it's happening.

And now YOU (what’s with the caps btw?) are moaning.
Of course I don’t know whether he works behind the scenes or not but by not knowing doesn’t make it true or untrue. I like to give people I respect and admire the benefit of the doubt.

Well we are all a branch on the ‘Privilege Tree’ if you really want to go down that road, they just happen to be at the top, though not without massive downsides as this thread clearly demonstrates, unlike other children born into a happy and financially secure home they don’t have to face the wrath of faceless social media keyboard warriors who in reality if given the chance would happily accept their wealth and privilege without a second thought for others. Now I await the virtue signalling posts claiming they would wear a hair shirt so that the UK gets all its pot holes filled 🙄

I love that phrase “fun sponges”. Describes them perfectly

AllMyRowdyFriends · 22/06/2024 17:29

Taylor and William sang karaoke with Jon Bon Jovi, right?

RubySloth · 22/06/2024 17:29

SummaLuvin · 22/06/2024 14:58

I wonder if this indicates William is ready to crack on with some actual work. He has only done 9 engagements so far in June, according to the Court Circular, yet he has the time/energy/fitness to leverage his position as Prince of Wales to get prime tickets to an England football match and now Taylor Swift (so crowds clearly not an issue with Kates treatment and exposure risk). William is next in line to the throne, when will we demand more of him? It's time for him to step up, the King (who is battling cancer at 70+) is doing more than him. Wheeling his cute kids out for a photo op to make us forget his laziness is becoming wearing.

Bore off!

AlwaysGinPlease · 22/06/2024 17:29

Lovely photos. If you have anything negative to say about this, you really need to look at yourself and wonder why.

ExpressCheckout · 22/06/2024 17:30

It's a lovely photograph of a handsome family.

I see the Corbynistas are trying to de-rail the thread🙄It's a shame they don't understand British history and how we came to have this brilliant combination of parliamentary democracy and a royal family - best of both worlds.

They did. I remember listening to the interview he gave when he spoke about it, it was really funny.

toastofthetown · 22/06/2024 17:30

DelectableMe · 22/06/2024 17:17

So you don't think the Wales children are spoilt, just children having a nice time?
Good. Then we agree 👍

Why are you being so arsey? I have no idea if they are spoilt. I've never met them. There's only one poster on this thread who has called the kids spoilt, and that isn't me. I literally reposted all my posts out for you to make it easier for you to explain which of my posts justified you calling me out personally for criticising the children. I note you still haven't answered.

HadMeABlast · 22/06/2024 17:30

Harry isn’t doing any work, hard or otherwise, for the RF.

AllMyRowdyFriends · 22/06/2024 17:30

Brilliant. Taylor Swift and William already met long ago.

Runnerinthenight · 22/06/2024 17:31

SummaLuvin · 22/06/2024 16:55

This is a thread on a public forum about public figures and a photo they posted publicly. The level of policing on this thread is ridiculous, the only valid opinions are not yours. Most posters with a negative opinion have said nothing about the kids (beyond they being used for a photo op). Our future head of state should not be beyond reproach just because things are tough. His dad is sick? Well being first in line to throne is sort of defined by needing to setup when your parent dies, falls ill, or is incapacitated. My first comment has 17 thumbs up now, which shows that even if people aren’t saying it, they share the sentiment that William is workshy, a reputation he has been earning for years and doesn’t seem to be moving to change any time soon - whether that reputation is fair or not and that is a problem for the royals.

If there are actually 17 other posters (which quite frankly, I don't believe) approving of the mean-spirited comments you have been posting throughout this thread, then that is a great shame.

The poor bloody bugger has to do this for the rest of his goddamn life, living in a goldfish bowl. Give him a fucking break!!!

MrsLeonFarrell · 22/06/2024 17:31

I thought nice weather was supposed to cheer people up, what on earth is happening on this board? Fun sponges is exactly right.

RedYellowPinkGreenPurpleOrangeBlue · 22/06/2024 17:32

Runnerinthenight · 22/06/2024 17:11

Couldn't agree more! The sound of barrels being scraped is overwhelming on this thread!

What actually goes through these people's minds? Some of the posts here are utterly disgusting, and mostly factually incorrect as well! The level of hatred frankly baffles me.

Bizarre isn't it? I often find that people who loathe the Royals and are so rude and nasty about them, are unhappy resentful people. Probably jealous of a neighbour or acquaintance who has just got a new car, because they don't feel they work hard enough for what they're got. Bitter, angry, resentful people who hate ANYone who has anything they don't. I pity them truth be told.

AllMyRowdyFriends · 22/06/2024 17:33

Based on this, I think we should demand more karaoke of William.

RubySloth · 22/06/2024 17:33

AlwaysGinPlease · 22/06/2024 17:29

They are bitter, must be a boring and hateful life. Everything the family are going through and people are always so fucking horrible, these negative people must be a joy to be around.

Harry isn’t doing any work, hard or otherwise, for the RF.

Why should he. Are you paying for him to? He is not a working royal, remember?

Some people are just perma-grumpy, and just love to moan, and spout vitriol at people who have a better life than them. (Whilst doing NOTHING to improve their own life!)

Couldn’t have put it better myself.

I could but then I'm not biased AF.
