Looks like William took George and Charlotte to see Taylor Swift for his birthday. Looks like Taylor was just as happy to meet them as they were to meet her.

He’s the President of the FA so attending football matches is official work for him. The President of the FA has been a member of the Royal Family since 1939 and has also included Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Andrew in the past.

Given how dreary that match turned out to be, I would say he earned his keep by attending!

SummaLuvin · 22/06/2024 15:12

@CheeseWisely while it's not the same as standing in the crowd there will be a lot of people they have come into contact with in the process. At the football match he was shown walking through a public area (while guarded) and chatting with many various people. Taylor is certainly not shielding, going to the show and just watching from a box could be somewhat 'safe' but these meet and greets will expose people. When I saw Taylor only a week ago she was clearly suffering from a cold, blowing her nose multiple times throughout the show, some people suspected it could be covid.

CheeseWisely · 22/06/2024 15:05

@SummaLuvin Correct me if I'm wrong but I rather suspect they'll have watched Taylor from a private box rather than mingling in the pitch standing, so crowds are unlikely to be an issue.

What a lovely treat for two children (one of whom is obviously absolutely beside herself to be there) who are no doubt going through a frightening and worrying time, regardless of their wealth and privilege.

@PrettyFlyforaMaiTai - what lovely photos, thank you for posting them.

Shame there have to be snarky comments , though …..

viques · 22/06/2024 15:14

I like Charlottes glittery dress and plaits, very appropriate! I do hope she wore a friendship bracelet, or swapped one with Taylor.

Can you just come out with it and scrap the coy 'concern'?

We all know exactly what you're implying.

DelectableMe · 22/06/2024 15:14

Yes, William and his children got protection and security. What do you expect?
They have had very serious threats against them, and going by some of the online hatred, some unhinged people who would take a pop if they could.
They're not going to go by bus and sit in the crowd.
However - you know that.

not trying to be coy, thought I was being clear? People have been defending his lack of events and appointments by saying he is shielding somewhat to protect Kate who may have lowered immunity depending on treatment. I think this and football match makes it clear that isn't really an issue since he seems to be happy to mill around and have close contact with many people who have certainly not been shielding themselves and would pose an exposure risk.

Being unpleasant about young children having fun is really scraping the bottom of the barrel, though.

Craftysue · 22/06/2024 15:19

I'm not bothered either way about the royal family but they've had a rough few months - I'm glad the kids had a good time 😀

I wonder if this indicates William is ready to crack on with some actual work. He has only done 9 engagements so far in June, according to the Court Circular, yet he has the time/energy/fitness to leverage his position as Prince of Wales to get prime tickets to an England football match and now Taylor Swift (so crowds clearly not an issue with Kates treatment and exposure risk). William is next in line to the throne, when will we demand more of him? It's time for him to step up, the King (who is battling cancer at 70+) is doing more than him. Wheeling his cute kids out for a photo op to make us forget his laziness is becoming wearing.

Oh my days.
How do you know he hasn’t been busy working behind the scenes? 9 engagements in June (you say) doesn’t mean he’s only worked for 9 days. I imagine even the Royals wfh.
To me, he is not lazy and the only wearing thing here is your moaning post.

Well that didn't take long did it 🤣

William has actually been pretty busy these past few weeks.

But since you didn't know he was FA President and attending England matches is his 'job', then that's probably something else you didn't know.

I haven't seen anyone on this thread being unpleasant about the children. Criticism of their father's work ethic (or lack thereof) isn't criticising the children.

You do know that the children go to school and that schools are havens for spreading lurgy? So I’m sure they are not at any more risk of catching something here. Or if you are implying that they are not shielding because the Princess isn’t actually having cancer treatment then firstly maybe she is having treatment that doesn’t suppress her immunity. You don’t know. And secondly it must be such a disappointment for you that she isn’t dead / in a coma and that she is carrying on happily with her family life despite being unwell

NewMe2024 · 22/06/2024 15:21

Lovely to see. They deserve some fun with everything they are going through as a family.

Oh bah humbug.

William's wife and dad have cancer. The kids' mum has cancer. How lovely that they had a chance to go to this concert. Put yourself in his shoes.

9 engagements while also doing stuff we don't see, plus supporting his very unwell wife and trying to be all things to his children, while also putting on a brave face to the public. I think he deserves three cheers frankly.

elliejjtiny · 22/06/2024 15:21

Aww that's so lovely. They have been and are still going through so much, it's lovely to see them happy.

When I was really ill with sepsis, dh either had to work or look after the dc (work wouldn't let him have time off and when they did, my in-laws took the dc back to him and said they had had enough of looking after them). It was awful and I just wanted him with me. I fully support Prince William spending as much time as he wants with his family.

I'm no royalist, but let's cut the man some slack. He's dealing with a lot.
