Looks like William took George and Charlotte to see Taylor Swift for his birthday. Looks like Taylor was just as happy to meet them as they were to meet her.

We've had Ronald Reagan, an actor,

Reagan didn't go straight from being an actor to becoming President. He'd been President of the Screen Actors Guild, and Governor of California.

It wasn't a criticism, I was very young when he was president although I do remember him being president
it was just observation that showbiz people have very successfully made the transition to US politics, see also Arnold Schwarzenegger.

MaturingCheeseball · 25/06/2024 11:55

I suggest everyone watches the making of We Are The World documentary. It is a fascinating look at human nature. And, beyond any doubt, Lionel Ritchie for President - a leader of men if ever there were one: articulate, fair, diplomatic, charismatic…

StartupRepair · 25/06/2024 12:50

Agree @MaturingCheeseball . I watched it last week and felt the same.

coolmum123 · 25/06/2024 14:28

Agree too. I watched it the other day. I watched it Live Aid show and then the US one when they broadcast it that very hot Saturday. I am still sad that they didn't ask Madonna to be a part of it. But I digress.

And he's still quite brilliant in concert - saw him last year. Real showman!

HadMeABlast · 25/06/2024 17:31

The can’t slow down album is a very fond memory of mine. Happy times.

And if it is of any interest, I hear it in my heid when I read your name @Runnerinthenight

Fond of a bit of Lionel.

Uricon2 · 25/06/2024 17:34

Very interesting to hear the views of some of the US members of the thread, as I said to my DH recently that I can't believe a country the size of the US can't come up with 2 better candidates than Biden and Trump. Nothing against JB, I think he'd probably have been fine at an earlier point.

Mind, when you look at some of the absolute shower we elect, perhaps should zip it!

ETA, clearly Lionel for President/PM of the new continent of Ambritica!

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 25/06/2024 17:46

Just to make it clear I'm not American ! Sorry if my post implied that. But who the US president is is so important to almost everyone in the world it feels like the Us election is really the President of the West election, we just don't get a vote.
hence my use of "we've had Ronald Reagan" as especially here in the Uk we have such a close ally relationship if feels it affects us very much who is in the White House.

Uricon2 · 25/06/2024 18:01

Thanks @StiffyByngsDogBartholomew quite get what you're saying and agree. I doubt there is as much potential disquiet internationally when the UK elects an new Government.

Of course, we are helped by having our lovely, unelected but on the whole quite sane Heads of State, who could do little harm even if they wanted! (Ducks) (Runs)

HadMeABlast · 25/06/2024 18:05

Running with the night was a favourite. I saw someone try to do ‘dancing on the ceiling’ on a bus to Brechin.

They failed.

😂was that someone a bit foo?

PrincessMee · 25/06/2024 18:39

Foo as a puggy probably?

HadMeABlast · 25/06/2024 18:50

Aye. And aye. 😁

Wow, so you came back to talk more shite!

As always, if you throw insults it devalues any point you might be making.
And if you're just throwing insults, you're not making any point at all.

Couldn’t agree more. Reasonable debate has also gone. And you have to have the ‘right viewpoint’ or you get cancelled.

Agreed. You think a photo of the RF getting access other people can't have based on the accident of their birth is wrong, on this thread you're a miserable shite talking unhappy sadfuck talking shit.

I just read about the sovereign grant and none of it goes to cameras or concert tickets! Not even beach trips!
It’s to pay for the monarch’s official business and staff and other official things. How would a president eliminate staff and business stuff?
I don’t want a president in UK!! It would end up like an American President and I’m not impressed. Even JFK was sleeping with Marilyn Monroe and swimming naked in his pool and my papa’s friend worked in the White House and said even his wife was not nice to the staff. Actually two people told me that. We’d probably get Boris.

The Irish President in total costs around 500,000 Euros (not £) a year.
In total.
Not excluding various grants, or different palaces etc.
In total.
Meaning more money in the public purse.
And you can vote them out. They are a popular ceremonial and democratic head of state.

I'm not making any other point other than that your posts are very irritating. That's a point.

I think I must have missed the post with the "well-argued point of view"...!

Let alone the alleged name calling, which I certainly haven't seen, has anyone else?

AllMyRowdyFriends · 25/06/2024 19:51

I’m still trying to figure out why anyone needs to be arguing or making good well-reasoned points on a thread about a Taylor Swift concert!! And not even about “What is the best Taylor Swift song?” Because I can see fighting about that.

Did anyone see how deftly Taylor handled Dave Grohl’s little dig? He was talking shite, too!
