Looks like William took George and Charlotte to see Taylor Swift for his birthday. Looks like Taylor was just as happy to meet them as they were to meet her.

A huge country, with millions of bright, capable hardworking people and those are the two alternatives? If I was a US citizen I would despair.

It’s like online dating in a small village when the options are your cousin or the guy who still lives with his parents and has his own karaoke YouTube channel. “Are these really my choices?”

@mathanxiety - what a strange comment, assuming that criticising Biden means that someone is sitting there wearing a Trump24 cap. So exasperating this binary attitude to everything these days.

It drives me nuts. It's like all nuance has gone. Every subject is polarised. You criticise Meghan? You're a hater. You like the Wales' family picture? You're a fawning obsessive.
Ludicrous.

HadMeABlast · 24/06/2024 20:31

Not very many decades ago, that wasn’t far off the choice in some of the more remote areas round here.

I had the dj. (No internet)

I also find it concerning that Biden v Trump is the best that a country of 333 million people can scrape together. A felon who has been convicted of election offences which helped him get elected to one of the highest positions in the world. Versus a very elderly man who appears to be very out of touch with the modern world and with almost two foot in the grave.

their electoral system really needs to change, the only reason this terrible twosome are able to run is 💵

personally My vote would be for Taylor swift. She clearly knows what people want. And I reckon she'd have a very good chance of winning the nomination. We've had Ronald Reagan, an actor, and a convicted felon reality tv star who caused an affront to democracy. so I say go Tay Tay

AllMyRowdyFriends · 24/06/2024 20:40

I agree! Taylor for President!!

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 24/06/2024 20:41

I reckon her diplomatic efforts would be far more successful too.

mr Putin, if you agree to down weapons and do as I say, I'll do you a concert in Moscow....

DelectableMe · 24/06/2024 20:41

Dolly Parton.
That is all 👍

AllMyRowdyFriends · 24/06/2024 20:52

Dolly! Now I think that would be a tremendous improvement to the global reputation of the United States.

HadMeABlast · 24/06/2024 20:58

Dolly? A fabulous woman.

AllMyRowdyFriends · 24/06/2024 20:59

No one can argue about that, right? She’s just so sweet and smiley and impossible not to love. Plus all those books for children.

Couldn’t agree more. Reasonable debate has also gone. And you have to have the ‘right viewpoint’ or you get cancelled.

HadMeABlast · 24/06/2024 22:04

Talking of unsociable behaviour…

The house of Beckham is getting a tuppence or twenty in….

It is fairly damning of Meghan.

For me? It just seems to point towards how utterly foofstruck Harry is.

The man has no baws.

DelectableMe · 24/06/2024 22:09

People like the Beckhams, Taylor Swift, Kevin Costner, Gwyneth Paltrow et al know exactly who to be linked with, and who to avoid like the plague.
You want to keep your brand high level.

HadMeABlast · 24/06/2024 22:23

I daresay keeping it on brand is high on the list of priorities.

It pays to be nice.

And honest. And trustworthy.

They pay tax too, probably a lot more than you.

They pay a miniscule % back as a PR exercise, on the billions they are given for doing nothing. A bit like Topcashback.

So yes, they probably 'pay' more tax than me, as I get around £50k for teaching in Outer London (Upper Pay Scale). But I do a job that benefits society, and well according to my colleagues and the children I teach and their parents. They don't do a job, that's the difference.

They get BILLIONS? I don’t think that’s right!

It seems like you are making things up and ignoring anyone who gives you factual information. Why would you do that? The other people cite the info. But you just say numbers.

Not at all.
The estimated annual cost to the country of the royals is £345m a year.
That's billions after a few years. And that's not counting the cost of the land and castles etc that could be used for the country as a whole.
I've quoted lots of figures throughout this thread. In return I've been called a 'sadfuck' and miserable, and lonely, and unhappy.
I've quoted facts, and received insults in return. That's a sure sign of a lost argument.

I can read and have been here the entire time. What you wrote above is what I hear some people call a “narrative” which my mother said means it’s “not exactly the truth.”

Wow, so you came back to talk more shite!

AllMyRowdyFriends · 25/06/2024 01:53

Just in case I was wrong I read back through and you only mentioned two numbers, £345,000,000 and 15. You cited one source, which people generally find to be credible and which doesn’t match with any other sources. (I believe you about the 15 miles.)

Is your memory your memory? Harry says that! I get it because mine is pretty terrible sometimes. Like, I totally remembered that Nelson Mandela died long before he died.

AllMyRowdyFriends · 25/06/2024 02:19

I’m wondering @pleasehelpwi3 what you were hoping to find here? It’s a nice little thread about some adorable children with a sick mummy going to a mega super fun concert. And there da dancing his royal ass off which we can tell does NOT run in the family.

Were you thinking the people interested in that would agree with you that the whole monarchy is rubbish and agree to talk to you about that instead? Because as my funny uncle says “no one goes looking for Jesus in a whorehouse”***

***That makes my mum really mad so he switched it to “No one finds Jesus on prom night” but only if she can hear him talking and it still makes her yell at him to be quiet. 🤣

Gorgonemilezola · 25/06/2024 07:29

pleasehelpwi3, you do your argument no favours with your inaccurate figures. Repeating £345 million every now and again doesn't make it so, in fact the figure comes from one not exactly neutral understatement source and is a figure which appears to have been plucked out of thin air. To state you're quoting 'facts' is a bit odd.

75% of profits from the Crown Estate comes into public coffers, which is a big chunk of cash each year. I know you'll say that the Crown Estate should not be in the hands of the rf, but, tbh, if it wasn't, due to the UK govt's ineptitude and woeful mismanagement, it would probably be very quickly sold off to overseas interests and any annual income go from £300 million (see, I can quote figures too) to zero overnight, along with the jobs involved.
