Looks like William took George and Charlotte to see Taylor Swift for his birthday. Looks like Taylor was just as happy to meet them as they were to meet her.

Plus the ongoing asylum seeker issues while our current mayor is being investigated:

Every style of government is going to have wrong'uns at some point and corrupt individuals occasionally, even corrupt heads of state etc.

Yes, that would be a good idea. There is certainly a place for a discussion on the future, or otherwise, of the monarchy in modern Britain.

But I'm not sure why every thread has to turn into the same circular 'discussion' about how much the royals are costing us. What is the motivation in doing this, I wonder? I doubt it's because they are interested in discussing the merits of monarchy as an institution. If they were they could, as you say, simply start a thread. So why don't they?

I’ve started at least one for discussing the options for head of state - changing completely or changing a little and it’s crickets compared to the engagement that happens on threads about the Wales or the Sussexes - those get derailed by haters and or republicans who want to try to end the system of constitutional monarchy by attacking individual royals.

WTF are you on about , "moral turpitude"!!?? That's frankly bonkers!

@Runnerinthenight It's a great phrase though, isn't it? Smile

I wonder if this indicates William is ready to crack on with some actual work. He has only done 9 engagements so far in June, according to the Court Circular, yet he has the time/energy/fitness to leverage his position as Prince of Wales to get prime tickets to an England football match and now Taylor Swift (so crowds clearly not an issue with Kates treatment and exposure risk). William is next in line to the throne, when will we demand more of him? It's time for him to step up, the King (who is battling cancer at 70+) is doing more than him. Wheeling his cute kids out for a photo op to make us forget his laziness is becoming wearing.

Mood hoover!!

I’ve bumped my old thread so discussion on the merits of a republic can be discussed there if wished.

In only got 62 posts the first time around.

Nope.

times and legal laws have changed since when Greece abolished their monarchy.

The Greek monarchy had been around for less than 150 years, compared to over 1500 years of English monarchy (if you count from Hengist), well over 1000 years if you count from the first Anglo-Saxon kings to claim to be kings of all the English.

William's dancing in the twitter video has me in absolute stitches, his dancing is so bad and quite camp 😝

Hahaha - that was very eye opening for me as a brand new pollster - no idea one person would try to sabotage a crappy internet vote!

Someone made a great video splicing Louis dancing at the jubilee concert in and you can see where Louis has learned his moves.

Two of the Biden German Shepherds bit Secret Service agents multiple times. One had to be rehomed. Waste of Secret Service time.

Melania Trump decided to revamp the Rose Garden. Every new administration decides to remodel the White House. How much wear and tear happens in four years? At least Charles knows how to garden and Catherine keeps bees.

And now we have to pay for the Hunter Biden investigation...

$$$$$!

I reckon the monarchy has saved us ‘the taxpayers’ millions- we’ve not had to elect a HoS every 4/5 years.

A coronation may boost the U.K. economy with bunting, plates etc. A HoS funeral to gather other HoSs to showcase the U.K. can’t be all bad.

As for the MET there were loads in London today as there was a climate March in Piccadilly- I got caught up in it as I was meeting friends.

Probably where my £1.75 or whatever has gone to. It sure as hell hasn’t gone to the NHS whatever that liar Johnson said. Yes I’m still bitter about Brexit.

If we couldn’t deal with leaving the EU when we had only been a member for a few decades imagine the costs and negotiations to become a republic. I’ll stick with a constitutional monarchy until a better solution presents itself.

And no that doesn’t necessarily make me a monarchist just a realist.

Abouttimeforanamechange · 23/06/2024 01:27

Catherine keeps bees.

so did the late Queen. It was reported that her chief beekeeper went to tell them she had died, as tradition requires. I think Charles has bees at Highgrove, too.

I’ll stick with a constitutional monarchy until a better solution presents itself.

They couldn't come up with a better idea in the 1650s.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 23/06/2024 01:42

Exactly.

That’s why I’ll stick with what we have.

BemusedAmerican · 23/06/2024 01:43

I'm not saying I want a constitutional monarchy, because I don't. I am happy with my republic. I'm just pointing out that having an elected HOS is not necessarily cheaper or better.

Unless we made them just one person. They'd be kind of busy though. Smile

To the people reporting people- what is there to report? No one's been abusive to another user or anything, people have just had different opinions about things.

No royals to protect> police employed to protect switched to other role= more police officers OR money saved on police no longer required> money returned to public purse.

Our former mayor used to park 2 SUV's of cops outside the YMCA while he exercised. Seriously. I saw them. Trust me, they will driving some elected's lab to the vet. You won't be saving money.

AlexanderArnold · 23/06/2024 01:57

I expect that many of you on this thread are in favour of VAT on private schools. As long as you know you can't have it both ways. You can't attack a system that basically acknowledges some have more advantages than others, but that there may be a benefit for everyone from this, when those with the advantages share them (eg private and public schools that offer free after school clubs). You can't have this and also claim whatever you are claiming about privilege, and private schools perpetuating that.

Good luck with the cognitive dissonance there.
