Looks like William took George and Charlotte to see Taylor Swift for his birthday. Looks like Taylor was just as happy to meet them as they were to meet her.

No, and that's obvious if you've read my posts.
I do however think it's unfair that the children in my class with additional needs aren't getting the support they need and yet most people on MN think it's fine to prioritise paying one family £345,000,000 a year when they don't really do anything.

It’s not obvious. It’s all been a very confusing exercise for me. We’ve got your sister, disabled children, £1.30, police and fighting in the streets, papers needed marked.

Are you just mad about the Dad dancing?

Well rest assured the funding of the royal family is never going to be diverted into any classroom. To say "they don't really do anything" is not correct either.

No agreed, it won't be a case of 'we're no longing using taxpayers' money to pay for Edward's family's sixth Swiss ski-ing trip of the decade, let's send it to St.James Primary to finally replace the TAs who left three years ago', but it will mean more money in the pile to be used for everyone, not just one family.

No, it's two things.
The money spent on the RF that could be better spent on other things. That's the main argument of course.
And yes of course, any offices spending any time protecting them (Andrew, Edward, queen's cousins etc etc ) does mean less officers on duty fighting crime.

The only ones getting paid protection are the King and Queen and the Wales. The others only when doing royal duties.
Oh, and Prince Harry, because he's determined to make us pay, even though he's decided not to be an official royal anymore.

His wife has been battling cancer FFS. The kids have probably been worried sick about their mum. They deserve a bit of down time. Bet you’re just some communist hating royal hater who would like to see the back of the monarchy. I’m so sick and tired of the culture, history and traditions of this country being derided by those on the left (the mindless vandalism of Stonehenge this past week being just one example). If you are so ashamed of this country then do us all a favour and go and move to somewhere like Iran 🙄

100% brilliant. 👏 Could not have put this better myself!

No it doesn’t. Special Protection are employed specifically as that. They are separate to the rest of the Met. So how does that mean there are less doing other specific jobs?

eta and like I said, they protect politicians as well

My family never took me to a concert.

Occasional dodgy lyrics apart, TS is actually pretty wholesome as to how she presents herself.

I remember some sort of socialist folk thing we went to on the afternoon/early evening when I was 6, but that's as far as it goes. And lots of Labour Party barbecues where we sang The Red Flag. Grin

No royals to protect> police employed to protect switched to other role= more police officers OR money saved on police no longer required> money returned to public purse.

The theoretical not-paying-for-royals government could spend it on schools, couldn't they? There's no reason why not, in theory.

Were you one of those kids that thought if you didn’t have any siblings you’d get more sausages? Because it doesn’t work that way. The parents just buy fewer sausages.

You don't think that a President would require protection? Or a Politburo?

Aaarrgh!!! Special Protection would still exist to protect politicians and whoever was head of state if we didn’t have the Royals. They wouldn’t be switched to “other roles”. Protection is their full time job. I have a friend in SP and that is what they do. All the time. But very often with the PM or other ministers. Or visiting overseas VIP’s. They don’t do ”other jobs”

typo again. It’s getting late 😆

Would you just tear down all the big historical buildings then? Or sell them to communists and fascists?

The horrible bitter little comments on here are shameful.

i think it’s lovely he took his kids to a concert, they clearly were having a great time, they are allowed a personal life, to do normal things, and they have been through such a tough time due to their mums Illness, who the heck could begrudge them.

My sentiments exactly. Why can people not just be happy for them, and at least TRY to be a bit nicer and kinder? Why so much vitriol? These haters do sound so unhappy. Sad

I definitely think it was him that wanted to go to the concert and just took the kids as a cover up.

He’s having way too much fun 🤣

I'm happy that they did something nice and enjoyed themselves. I just think he could've picked something that didn't risk encouraging them in moral turpitude.

That's not true at all:

https://www.republic.org.uk/tourism

And even if they did bring in money, which they don't, they're not democratic.

Excuse me for not believing that particular group as it's their mission to abolish the monarchy and therefore they will push their own agenda.

I'm not particularly a Republican personally so I'm not that bothered about the current state of play, but they could be with the equivalent of the National Trust or probably pay for themselves as tourist attractions, or be sold off as private homes.
