Yeah, I'm not sure it's 'another person'.
I completely understand why Republicans who want the end of the monarchy so want it to seem 'bad value for money' use the court circular to imply that we are not getting value for money based on the events published there. That's a tactic that they are clinging to so I understand when its coming from that angle.
But just in case poster is genuinely concerned - we don't pay William to do anything or nothing - he only gets expenses from the Sovereign Grant which is paid from our yearly taxes when he goes on official engagements. Any money left not spent is kept for the following year, any year where there is an excess left over can lead to a reduction in the Grant for the following year.
We don't pay for a Royal Family - we pay for a Head of State - as our head of state is a monarch, he manages his support team as he feels best works for his reign. If he wants a member of his family to sub in for him he gets them to, if he wants someone to do more or less work, it's down to him.
Right now William has a 'position' - it's not a job in any sense of the regular working world, his position comes with certain responsibilities, and the perk of being able to pick and choose what extra stuff he does. The older he gets and the closer to the top job the more responsibilities he gets and the less freedom and it's a job that lasts until your last breath. Every year is completely scheduled, you know exactly where you will be on November 11, Commonwealth Day, Garter Day, etc etc and what you'll be doing every year until you die.
We are paying for a head of state - one that comes with history, traditions, that uses family members as subs and deputies.
Might not seem like good value for money for some, others disagree.
