The royal family

Calling her Kate Middleton seems so disrespectful

In the midst of all this, I hope that anyone who reports on or speaks about the matter can refrain from calling her Kate Middleton. She is the Princess of Wales, and that's that.

Other than that, I sincerely pray that she and the family are offered privacy and respect that they themselves ask for, and deserve.

I just think it's a bit naive to accept the "offical" version of events given um, given the the huge amount controversies and scandals surrounding the UK royal family.

They can tell us whatever they want

wordler · 24/03/2024 12:24

Media use Kate Middleton because it ranks better on the online search algorithms so more likely to turn their articles up in searches which means more clicks and more money - and that’s more important to their business than anything else.

So she’s always going to be Kate Middleton somewhere in their articles.

Now she’s Princess of Wales a lot of people are searching online for ‘Princess Kate’ so you’ll see that being used more as well especially in American media.

The mainstream UK publications will always include her correct title at some point in the article - usually below the headline and the first four paragraphs.

LiterallyOnFire · 24/03/2024 12:24

When something else altogether could be going on

Well that's always possible, even when it's unlikely.

But maybe "we" stop worrying about it, stop posting vague nonsense and let her get in with it?

Sparklybutold · 24/03/2024 12:24

@LighthouseTheme how about don't refer to her at all! You don't know her! Why are you so preoccupied with someone you don't know? Especially when said person will get the best of everything and is on a course of PREVENTATIVE chemotherapy. In the meantime millions around the world are dying due to lack of medical care and you're here getting your knickers in a twist about how people refer to her! Get a grip.

This is fully into lunatic fringe conspiracy. Don't tell me, you also think the video was AI/she's already dead/it's a plan to promote the new "cancer jab"/chemtrails did it?

It is seriously strange behaviour to doubt the news that she is being treated for cancer. Really, really silly.

She could have been pressured into making the video by people.

The UK royal family haven't treated the female partners of their prince's well In history.

Which is why people are concerned about her.

Hopefully she will be ok.

And if it IS cancer, i hope her treatment goes well for her and she has full healing .

I wouldn't like to be married into the royal family. It looks very difficult

Oh Good Lord - make it stop...

spanieleyes · 24/03/2024 12:46

It's obvious, isn't it? There were leashed corgis just out of shot in the Princess' video, just waiting to be let loose on her if she had said a word wrong!

I said there are controversies about the uk royal fmily

You said "good lord make it stop".

so are you saying that prince andrews child abuse case was OK then?

Yeah because no one in the royal family has ever been told/pressured to do things before.

Oh wait. They have

Yes that's right. All of us who can see you're being a conspiracist weirdo also think it's great that Andrew abused women. 🙄 🙄 What is wrong with you?

In my everyday life I don't refer to her much at all, so your reprimand is a bit irrelevant. As is what I think, as I have been told many times on here, it matters little.
I originally meant The Media and official reporting... Again, not the hoi poloi.
Some responses gave proved a lack of comprehension, and a bit of a herd mentality. Again, I don't really care, but am getting quite defensive I know.
I am so not invested in this in general, but I do feel very sorry for all that she is enduring, and she looked so very frail.
Have never posted about anything royal before, or read much, apart from about tiaras 😊
Also, I have the same jumper she wore in her announcement (from a "park bench", as the DM put it). 🥰

She replied "good lord make it stop" to the point where I said "there are loads of controversies about the UK Royal family.

No I won't stop talking about the controversies surrounding the UK royal family.

This isn't North Korea, where people are banned from saying anything negative at all about their leaders.

The UK royal family have done a lot of fucked up stuff.

Yet if anyone says anything negative about the royal family, they are immediately called a lunatic or crazy.

I don't understand that level of blind devotion.

I was in spain recently. People openly criticise the royal family there. They will openly say that the previous spanish king was a total selfish asshole. He wasn't well liked at all

LiterallyOnFire · 24/03/2024 13:05

Yes criticise away. We don't need a monarchy.

But all this conspiracy bollocks is plain idiotic.

myrtleWilson · 24/03/2024 13:08

I was "Good Lording" about your ridiculous descent into "somethings off" & 'I'm too smart to believe official pronoucements' were you a freeman of the land-er during covid?

Also, am definitely adding North Korea to the bingo card

CarolinaInTheMorning · 24/03/2024 13:18

I don't understand that level of blind devotion.

Very little of which is displayed on Mumsnet.

AuntiesWoodenLeg · 24/03/2024 10:47

Why would you use her first husband's name? Her own name is Camilla Shand, and she's the step-MIL, not MIL.

She hasn't been known as Camilla Shand for donkeys' years. She was always Parker-Bowles, even after she split from him. As for the step-MIL thing - bloody hell, I know the score, as we all do, but it was just a shorthand. Are you normally so nit-picky?

Oh dear you don’t frequent the royal threads very often. It is full of royalists!

spanieleyes · 24/03/2024 16:20

And republicans!

And all sorts who fall in between.

macymay123 · 24/03/2024 16:38

There's a difference between name and title. If someone has a title of say, Dr, it's not disrespectful to refer to them by their name. The only place they'd be referred to as a Dr is in a professional setting.

The blind devotion is not displayed by the Republicans. It is however, displayed by the royalists.

Not necessarily. Being a royalist does not necessarily equate with "blind devotion."

I'm neither by the way (republican or royalist as far as the UK is concerned), being American and all.

It does for some - as is evidenced on the royal threads. I could name particular posters who are blindly devoted just off the top of my head but that wouldn't be fair on this thread.

FMLWTF · 25/03/2024 08:48

I recall Sophie was known as Sophie Rhys-Jones for ages. Countess of Wessex took years to take hold in people’s minds. Kate Middleton is how she first came to prominence. I doubt it matters in the slightest to her. I am known by my own name and also my husband’s name, fine by me, they are both ways of identifying me correctly. I know she has requested to be known as Catherine publicly but even William called her Kate a few times in their engagement interview and Harry always called her Kate so it’s not that far off the mark.

I like her but she’s just a woman, same as me, albeit one who has married into an extraordinary situation. The HRH bit doesn’t elevate her to mythical status.

roastedrapidly · 25/03/2024 12:47

It's Catherine - not Kate.

Her family and friends and everyone who knows her personally call her Catherine.

(Meghan is the only family member I've heard referring to her as Kate, Meghan also strangely refers to the Dutches of York as Fergie, an old media nickname)

But people who love and respect her, call her Catherine.
