Part 4 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports.

I think the Welcome Project is great. Not keen on the grief tourism. More of this; less of that.

ChVrches · 10/03/2024 20:59

@Spectre8 that's still not a phrase I am familiar with. Is it American slang?

ArcaneWireless · 10/03/2024 21:12

It isn’t something I’m familiar with either @ChVrches. Nor is it with those of a similar age group to those repping away to themselves.

I think they repped themselves far better in the second photo.

The first photo made them look like girny nyaffs.

skullbabe · 10/03/2024 22:26

Has anyone managed to find out where the black flats are from? I thought they more than likely were Aquazzurra but am coming up empty - google lens matches to Chanel but nope! Like the floral cross design - I hopefully can find a dupe with more arch support than she favours.

skullbabe · 10/03/2024 22:34

Is it American slang?

Can be. But can also be from the ends you get me?

Given many of the regular posters on this thread have been busily stirring conspiracies about Kate elsewhere, expecting a nice friendly thread about Meghan seems a bit rich

V ugly and disingenuous.

Spectre8 · 10/03/2024 23:40

No idea of ots American slang, it's just slang to me but one of the obvious ones as most slang is just a shortened version of the actual word. I've heard it before almost 15yrs ago mostly by young adults who went and became reps abroad. They would say repping alot.

ChVrches · 11/03/2024 17:53

No @skullbabe I don't get you but no matter it was some kind of explanation for youngsters performing for a camera. It's not important.

StickyWickets · 11/03/2024 18:33

Apologies for bringing the tone of the thread down but I really dislike the first photo of Meghan for the Archetypes podcast.

To me, she has the posture and expression as if she's sat on the toilet taking a crap and now I can't unsee it

skullbabe · 14/03/2024 19:08

Looks like Meghan is relaunching “The Tig” as “American Riviera Orchard”.

Fun to see what’s coming.

Very exciting - good for them!

It’s being compared to Martha Stewart, but I immediately thought of the Duchy of Cornwall and Duchy Essentials brands in the UK.

Don’t they also sell food products?

Spectre8 · 14/03/2024 22:17

Ao nice to see calligraphy and joined up handwriting l, it's my favourite style of writing

can you take the image and upload it to google to search?

skullbabe · 15/03/2024 14:28

I tried but no joy 😟

Lovely write-up of the latest Meghan sighting:

"I’ll buy whatever Meghan Markle is selling
Whatever you think of Meghan, this curated lifestyle is utterly enviable (although I’d pass on the tortured period shacked up with the in-laws). She looks bloody great and wouldn’t we all like to mill about barefoot in a Montecito villa with some rescue dogs and Oprah on speed dial? At a time when life can feel like a relentless trudge, she is selling a Californian fantasy. She’s doing a Martha Stewart x Goop – hopefully at a more reasonable price point."

At a time when life can feel like a relentless trudge, she is selling a Californian fantasy - and Sophie Gallagher is on the waiting list

Ooh I missed this

Dr Joy Buolawemi was awarded the 2024 Digital Civil Rights Award by the NAACP and Archewell. So pleased that it's now off and running and Dr Buolawemi is a well deserved recipient - absolutely spot on the how AI and other sensor items quite frequently don't pick up dark skins.

2024 NAACP – Archewell Foundation Digital Civil Rights Award | The Archewell Foundation

The Archewell Foundation is proud to congratulate this year’s recipient of the NAACP – Archewell Foundation Digital Civil Rights Award, Dr. Joy Buolamwini.  Dr. Joy is a computer scientist, digital activist and founder of the Algorithmic Justice League...

she is selling a Californian fantasy.

Thing is noone really knows but I'm sure whatever it will be will be fine and fit Meghan's aesthetic and it's personal to her, as she's used her calligraphy for the font. I see alot of jam speculation 😂- personally I'm not convinced, I think she's going to go down the homewares route with the occasional recipe thrown in. I think it's also an indication that they're probably going nowhere if she's used the nickname for where they live in their branding. Should be interesting. Good to see that they're ticking along.

TallerSally · 15/03/2024 15:43

I think there'll be a solid market for essentially US versions of Duchy of Cornwall-style products in California and elsewhere. Meghan has a track record of cooking projects dating back to before she became a royal, during that phase and since then, so it's on brand.

These things go well together with a TV show - Joanna Gaines/Fixer-upper style. Could be a good Netflix cooking show.

One thing's clearly, Meghan's no lazybones.

And as to all the bonkers speculation that her and Harry were on their knees begging the RF to allow them to return to live in the UK, it's been the funniest ludicrous nonsense I've read in years!

Obv, Meghan was desperate to call her brand Weston-Super-Mare Speciality Fish'n'Chips, but the trademark was already taken.

And will Meghan donate profits to charity as the Duchy of Cornwall does @TallerSally ?

No, she should donate them to you!

ummm The Duchies are all stolen land. They don't donate, they steal.

Mylovelygreendress · 15/03/2024 16:00

I see intelligent conversation is off the agenda again today .

What?

William received £6 million from the duchy since the Queen died. Next year that is due to rise to £30 million

Anything given to charity is the bona vacantia, proceeds from people who died intestate in Cornwall with no traceable relatives

TallerSally · 15/03/2024 16:37

Thanks for the correction, @Roussette !

I for one am looking forward to the cookbooks. Could be hugely interesting if there's a world food angle to them, given Meghan's support for Afghan refugees, her Grenfell cookbook etc (which, by the way, got tons of great reviews). At first sight that may not immediately fit with the "American" in ARO, but maybe that's the point, it could highlight the diversity in the American Riviera/California.

As to where proceeds go I'm obviously not privy to any non-public information, so we shall have to see of course, but as Meghan and Harry are first and foremost about philanthropy through Archewell and their other ventures, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the proceeds from ARO end up funding Archewell Foundation...
