Part 4 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports.

Surely she’s done something worthy of talking about since she was 11

Katie Couric asked her to talk about - she didn’t just start talking about to. If you watched it you would see how in the context it would have been rude for Meghan not to have spoken about it.

skullbabe · 09/03/2024 16:26

Nice pictures of Nancy - love, love, love her blouse

It looks griege in some photos and cream in others.

She can talk about her involvement in the commercial as much as she wants, especially if it encourages the youth to get involved in using their voices on issues they care about.

The denim outfit Megs wore to a lunch in Texas before the event is here (no biggie) but scroll down to see a lovely photo of the proud hubby beaming at the sight of his wife onstage.

Awwwwwww... 🤗🤗🤗

So cute to see how they take turns to support each other - Invictus last month, now SXSW... I guess it's pretty normal and wholesome, but still lovely to see (especially as they were recently meant to be on the verge of divorce, according to some...)

It reminds me of that quote from the Devil Wears Prada about florals 🤣

Also, are waist belts making a comeback??

She can talk about her involvement in the commercial as much as she wants, especially if it encourages the youth to get involved in using their voices on issues they care about.

One of the points she made was:

"When asked how she tackled the “seemingly endless toxicity” aimed at her online, Meghan said: “It is really interesting as I can reflect on it, I keep my distance from it right now for my own wellbeing, but the bulk of the bullying and abuse that I was experiencing on social media and online was when I was pregnant with Archie and with Lili.
“You just think about that and really wrap your head around why people would be so hateful – it is not catty, it is cruel.”
The former Suits actor said she found it disturbing that women were “spewing” hatred at each other online, adding: “I cannot make sense of that. If you’re reading something terrible about a woman, why are you sharing it with your friends?
“Why are you choosing to put it out in the world, what if it was your friend, or your mum or your daughter, you wouldn’t do it.
“I think that is the piece that is so lost right now [with] what is happening in the digital space and in certain sections of the media – we have forgotten about our humanity and that has got to change.”

We're seeing this happen live, every minute of every day, aren't we?

Hope not - I looked hideous when I tried 🤣

Yes the posts about the Princess of Wales have been dreadful. Awful to think that so many of those trolls are motivated by some sort of twisted loyalty to Meghan. She must feel awful about that.

AliceOlive · 09/03/2024 17:14

If you’re reading something terrible about a woman, why are you sharing it with your friends?

This cuts both ways, too. My mom taught me that “It takes two people to cut you to the core, an enemy to say something horrible and a friend to repeat it to you.”

She would tell me if someone repeated something nasty to me “That person is not your friend.” Over time I began to recognize that people repeating hurtful things under the guise of protecting you are getting something out of it, too.

I try not to encourage things I see as ugly by not giving them any more air. If you talk about someone’s body, someone’s children, someone’s marriage I try to avoid, ignore. Sometimes I get the better of myself.

ArcaneWireless · 09/03/2024 17:16

Meghan is not responsible for the actions of randoms on the internet.

However. I feel the carefully chosen words and enigmatic silences have not helped the situation and hinting at upset and unease and racism has not helped the situation.

And her gallant husband denied her experiences too so what are we supposed to believe?

In a world of social media, your actions and inactions really matter.

pipsfromthefuture · 09/03/2024 17:29

This seems to cut both ways for everyone involved and has for the past 6 or so years. I'm sure Kate feels as equally awful of what her supporters have been saying online.

To pretend to be outraged about how Kate is being treated, while saying nothing about the past 6 years of nastiness and trolling of Meghan online, is disingenuous and hypocritical.

I think if, I'm not mistaken, Will and Kate also talk or have talked, about social media abuse and mental health, so if you are going to hold Meghan to a specific standard, then hold them all to the same standard and be consistent. If they have also been silent, their actions and inactions matter and have contributed as well.

None of these terms - greige/husband/boyfriend - are new. They are standard terms in the fashion industry. Nancy's blouse reminds me of Lilly Pulitzer fashions which I love. They say to me "Florida" or the "Caribbean". I stayed at a resort last fall where all the staff wore LP uniforms - so lovely.

skullbabe · 09/03/2024 17:30

Closer look at Katie’s suit - I don’t think it looks oversized here but may have the look she was going for. Loving the bright coloured suits 😍

AliceOlive · 09/03/2024 17:35

That’s the style right now. I’m not a fan. Brooke’s pants are sweeping the floor. Erin Haines suit is nicely fitted.

Edited to say I know her pants are long also but the split makes it better, and the entire suit doesn’t look oversized.

ArcaneWireless · 09/03/2024 17:38

If they had made public accusations about H&M, I’d absolutely hold them to the same standard.

I may be mistaken but to date, I have not heard them discuss H&M in public at all. Not in any negative terms.

There is a difference between fuelling the fire, then sitting back to watch the flames and others deciding not to add oxygen to something by speaking out.

And Harry chose to negate Meghan’s experiences so again, it isn’t just down to Meghan.

The person who perhaps let her down most is the one beside her.

ArcaneWireless · 09/03/2024 17:39

And someone needs to hem most of those trousers properly.

Salemforcuddles · 09/03/2024 17:41

The blouse is quite similar to the style of Love n Roses in next

ChVrches · 09/03/2024 17:48

I wonder if they all got to choose a colour so no clashing.

GrouchyKiwi · 09/03/2024 17:48

The orangey-red suit needs slightly longer trousers, Nancy's are about right, Erin's are indeed saved by the split, and the other two need hemming. I love the pink of Katie's suit, and Nancy's blouse/tunic thing is lovely.

ArcaneWireless · 09/03/2024 17:53

I think only Nancy nailed the brief.

As Grouchy rightly noted above, a few tweaks here and there would have made the difference.

Although to be fair, I’m not really a lover of oversized suits.

Salemforcuddles · 09/03/2024 17:57

They need a good iron

I'm so happy for the colour!

Re: the waist belts coming back, the chunky ones were all the rage 😂i😂i hope those never come back, but the skinny ones might be nice if done well. (not stacked on top of peplum tops again!!)

Holy crap and never a truer word was spoken. Why would a woman do such things in public?
