Part 4 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports.

I think the panel outfit is silk, or at least the shirt definitely is.

I like the BBQ place outfit. Very casual chic, though I still side-eye double denim.

Love that comment about enough trouble. Grin

Panel sounded good overall - good flow of conversation

So I have watched the panel in full this morning and I think it was really a great conversation. But overall good insight into the impressions many had about how things are going and how to effect change. I thought Katie Couric was a bit spiky at points 🤣but loved her anecdote about her 10 year old daughter quoting Samantha from STC (😱).

It looks like an Edwardian style to me.

I don't understand what's going on here? Are we not allowed to say things like we didn't like her big blouse yesterday? Are we only allowed to say compliments?

For me, that was an outfit you stand and look beautiful in. If that makes sense.

It isn’t meant for sitting. What starts off as elegant but semi casual doesn’t look as bonny when it is creased or not ‘sitting right’.

I wish I could find my favourite photo of her again. I think it was on a style and beauty thread.

She was elegantly casual in olive green and to me, she looked magnificent - even though it was a fairly informal photo.

This outfit was not as magnificent as it might have been. A shame when the outfit may distract from the words.

Mumsnut · 09/03/2024 15:09

The colour did nothing for her.

Found the shirt and the skirt.

And the earrings - not a fan of this style of hoop myself.

Ooo thanks.

Not a fan of pinstripe like AT ALL.

Agree, not really a fan of the colour or cut of this one on her

A rare complimenting piece in today's Telegraph. To me Meg's outfit looked like a step up from what you'd wear to work, so not gala-glam, more... work panel glam. So, appropriately low key, apparently:

The Duchess of Sussex has a new ‘Husband’ shirt.

"Speaking on a panel at the SXSW festival, Meghan wore a matching silk ensemble for a look that was understated and interesting
Seven years since she made her first appearance as Prince Harry’s girlfriend at the Invictus Games in Toronto, wearing a Misha Nonoo design known as the ‘Husband’ shirt, Meghan stepped out in a newer, more luxurious shirt with the same name.
The oversized silk shirt in palest greige was by luxury Italian label Giuliva Heritage, and teamed with a matching maxi skirt. Her hair was loose with a centre parting, swept over one shoulder, the look completed by chunky gold Bottega Veneta earrings and Valentino pointed mules.
Meghan was speaking on a panel at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas, about women in media and entertainment, and the Giuliva Heritage ensemble made for a look that was both understated and interesting – a tricky balance to strike.
We learned this week that the Duchess doesn’t have a personal stylist, but evidently she has no trouble putting a look together that meets the demands of the occasion.
It was a smart choice, if you think about what she might have anticipated other women on the panel to be wearing: most likely a suit, as we saw on fellow panellists Brooke Shields, Katie Couric and moderator Errin Haines. Maybe there would be a midi dress. In the less obvious shirt-maxi skirt co-ord, Meghan will have known that she’d stand out visually, despite the muted hue, on the panel. And she does.
She will have considered how the rest of the world will be looking at her outfit too: on a landscape video screen, or a screenshot of that. Much like the ‘Zoom dressing’ we all did during the pandemic, the shirt and earrings work well when we see her in that context too.
It’s still the quiet, understated fashion we’ve come to expect from her; the kind of thing she wears when she wants us to focus on what she’s saying, not what she’s wearing, but perhaps she’s come to accept that, as one of the most famous women in the world, whatever she wears is news, so she might as well have fun with it.
And while she is a divisive figure, Meghan’s wardrobe does offer some valuable lessons in how to dress for our own professional lives. Looking well put together is a universal goal, whether you live in Montecito or Margate.
Whether you do it in ‘serious greige’ is optional."

Going to be honest, I've never been to really understood what "Husband shirt" or "boyfriend jeans" meant. And kind of hated those terms (I may be a hypocrite because I loved the good old Mom jeans trend for me generation 😅)

Does it just mean "baggy" or unfitted? @TallerSally

Pushtart · 09/03/2024 15:29

I think it does @pipsfromthefuture

oakleaffy · 09/03/2024 15:29

Mud coloured clothes and far too Ill fitting .
Not flattering at all.

pipsfromthefuture · 09/03/2024 15:30

I also think if I were to wear a silk skirt, I'd be so worried about bum sweat

Meghan also re-shared how a letter she sent aged 11 to consumer goods giant Procter & Gamble led to a sexist advert promoting dishwashing liquid being changed.

Not this again.

Wonder which version it was this time?

Has it moved on to now include writing to Elvis as well as roping in Hilary Clinton when she was 11?

It’s tedious isn’t it? Surely she’s done something worthy of talking about since she was 11? Oh wait, maybe not…

Not the dish soap anecdote again???
That’s been done to death by now.

Plus it was a classroom effort, I think?

Pushtart · 09/03/2024 15:35

She was encouraged to do so by Katie and it would of been rude to say, No! I've already talked about that enough! Mumsnet won't like it!'

Ha - ha 😂Tbh it's my first encounter with that term. I suspect it means a shirt you stole from your hubbie... and I think in the first early pics of M&H she was wearing a big white shirt, so it's a throwback to that... 😂

Oh.good, because I can't see any man wearing that silk shirt.

(except the Artist Formerly Known as Prince)

Unfortunately her asshat father also told the world he was the one that wrote the reply and made her think her letter had that impact. I thought that was really shitty of him.

AliceOlive · 09/03/2024 15:52

Sorry to even mention him.

I love the silk top, actually. The skirt isn’t for me.

Did I already say I loved Nancy’s outfit the most? It was perfect for Texas, for the time of day, for the event.

Pushtart · 09/03/2024 16:08

It wouldn't matter what fabric I wore in Texas when it gets hot, I would look like a hot sweaty mess.

Yet she revels in it - thought she even embellished it along the way by saying she involved Hilary Clinton.....

Greige - hilarious new word but it kind of…..works 🤣
