Part 4 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports.

I have a dress the same colours as Doria's and it's my favourite. Doria looks gorgeous as usual.

I love Megan's skirt but not with the top. I feel like nothing ever fits her properly. I follow a stylist on Instagram that I wish could dress Meghan.

She does simple, modern, and tailored. Meghan needs a stylist who will tailor her others better.

She was beautifully dressed on Suits.

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 03/04/2024 08:21

Ah, well if it’s a dress then it isn’t zipped up properly or there’s a hole in it. And there’s too much fabric in the top part to flatter her frame.

Such a stunning dress - love the print!

Oh its a dress maybe it the light making the white look different at the top to the bottom. Bet it looks better up close because it does on the website.

It really doesn’t

I don't think a silk chiffon dress is a good choice for visiting a children's hospital. Maybe something more casual and practical - she has a lot of that type of clothing, which would look better and suit her and the occasion.
I don't know if the zip is broken or the fine fabric has torn from that image?.

Mylovelygreendress · 03/04/2024 08:41

Meghan looks great in jeans/ shirt type outfits and that casual look would have suited the occasion better .

LaMarschallin · 03/04/2024 08:45

Is the zip not done up properly?
It looks to me like a zip tag dangling at the bottom of the gap.

I agree with this. It's no secret I'm no Meghan fan, but I do think she does casual dressing very well. She has a model figure and looks great in jeans, trousers and trouser suits, shirts, shorts etc etc.

But I'm always disappointed by her 'smart' outfits. I particularly hate those 'draped' tight things she wore when in the RF (where her underwear lines showed), with a horrid little beret to match. I think this 'fairy dress' is nicer, but agree it's spoiled by the strange fit on the top half. The skirt is lovely. I'm sure she was trying to dress to please the children - rather as the PoW does when she visits children, and good for them both.

themessygarden · 03/04/2024 09:49

Think the dress could be okay, but I don't particularly like it, however the black ankle strap flats look dreadful with it, she has huge feet for someone so petite.

I keep saying it, she needs her friend Jessica styling her again, she rarely gets it right these days since Jessica seems to have disappeared off the scene.

I think Jessica was ditched long ago.

I think her dress sense is generally terrible. She seems to have no idea what actually suits her .
she just doesn’t suit formal clothes in my opinion. Her feet are very narrow so heels often look like they are slipping off or too big. She seems to struggle to walk in them. Her legs are very thin and don’t look good in shorts, which she seems to favour. She loves belted styles which cut her in half and emphasise her short torso. Her underwear shows frequently. That gap in the zip just looks awful. She seems to have no concept of what is appropriate for the occasion either.

I agree with others that she looks great in casual clothes , just not shorts. I think that’s partly because she just doesn’t feel comfortable in formal clothes or those sorts of occasions.

The trouble is she’s in her forties now and ripped jeans and shirts don’t look so great as you get older. Plus she’s trying to keep up with Hollywood designer label types.

If I were a sick kid in a hospital I'd love it if a beautiful famous person came to read to me while wearing a fancy dress, so I can see why she chose it. My 7-year-old DD thinks the same; the older two wouldn't care what whoever was wearing as they're not interested in clothes!

AliceOlive · 03/04/2024 12:04

I love the top from the front. Not a fan of the bottom half. I like it in reverse in the black and white photo.

I have huge feet and cannot wear flats without looking and feeling dumpy.

I doubt anyone would take issue with the visit and the reading. It’s the cameras and the people mag promo that make it uncomfortable.

Uncomfortable for whom? You?

Spectre8 · 03/04/2024 12:32

I doubt most of us ever wear things that are perfectly suited to our bodies. I know I don't. But sometimes I just want to wear a pretty chiffon dress or those pleated chiffon skirts because I like them and I feel nice wearing them. And I couldn't care if anyone looking at me was judging me for wearing something that wasn't perfectly fit to my body type.

If I did wear what did it'd probably mean a limited style of clothes. Thanks but no thanks

Perhaps I used the wrong word, but I do find it questionable when someone does something like this that appears to be for show. Yes, it makes me uncomfortable.

Many celebrities do good works quietly. Many regular people volunteer in hospitals daily without fanfare.

It’s hard not to view this particular event as self-serving.

I doubt if your average 7 year old sick kid in hospital would know who Meghan Markle was?

That's not really the point I was addressing. Solely about the outfit, in response to the suggestion it was a bit much, my opinion is that for some children it would have added to the special memory of "the time the lady who looked like a princess read to me". And so I think it's an appropriate choice, whatever other factors may come into the visit.
