Okay , I'm just going to say it... where is Kate Middleton?

(or for the MN purists, Catherine) The most high profile and popular member of royal family has not been seen since Christmas. I do think it's quite strange and so many rumours from the foreign press. And before anyone starts jumping down my throat about her having hysterectomy / crohns / ad infimum / I've had both a hysterotomy and half my intestine removed and was back in work within a 8 weeks.

I’m guessing the palace signed her off until Easter to buy themselves some time. If they’d said recovery was six weeks and then she wasn’t fully recovered more engagements would have to be cancelled and people would start getting hysterical that she’d taken a turn for the worse. I think she’ll be spotted before Easter looking refreshed then everyone will forget this silliness and go back to focusing on Harry and Meghan.

This whole thing is becoming like a situation where you get a controlling line manager trying to force someone into work when they have been signed off sick isn’t it. They don’t believe that you are as sick as you say you are because their wife’s friends cousin had a similar thing and they were up and about much quicker.

Also love how everyone thinks that just because they ‘had’ to be up and about quickly then that should be the standard for everyone when in fact plenty of time to recover should be the standard, yes I appreciate it’s not, but it should be and if someone is able to have that (and lots of people will with supportive employers and family help) then we shouldn’t berate them for it, it’s not a race to the bottom.

Exactly. And like I've said on other threads - the problem is that her job is ridiculous and shouldn't exist, not that she's taking time to recover.

5YearsLeft · 03/03/2024 08:57

Er… I know this is a bit of a crazy one, but maybe after working through hyperemesis gravidarum, and then appearing outside hospitals hours after giving birth, she made an agreement with the PR office about this surgery - which is no contact. I mean, people do that with their jobs when they’re recovering. If a boss was chasing them to do a photo op while they were signed off, I think it would be illegal. So maybe it’s just that simple.

Or… someone convinced her to try bangs just before surgery and it’s taking the entire recovery time for them to grow out.

OnceinaMinion · 03/03/2024 09:08

She’s not like a normal coming back to the office on phased return.
Shell be expected to dress up, wear heels, look good and walk about chatting to people with everyone watching. If she looks tired/ill there will be a huge fuss.

Goforitagain · 03/03/2024 09:20

A few colleagues had hysterectomies, probably about 20 years ago now so the op might be different and they had about 3 months off work.

Hoglet70 · 03/03/2024 09:22

I'm sure I just read this on 'Chat', did it get moved?
Honestly I am past caring where she is now.

Now we can look forward to another thread in AIBU or Chat from someone who thinks they're the first to ask the question because they haven't thought to check the Royal Family section for threads about a leading member of the royal family.

Normandy144 · 03/03/2024 09:43

She's recovering after her operation. They said she wouldn't be back to work until after Easter. Easter is still several weeks away. Anecdotal evidence about other people's recovery rates for abdominal surgery are irrelevant. For all we know she may well be fully recovered, she is a very fit person so I would not be surprised. I expect she is enjoying catching up with family and spending a few quiet weeks with her children before she is back on official duties. I wouldn't blame her if that is the case.

TitaniasAss · 03/03/2024 09:46

Oh God, another gossipy thread about this. Really?

MarvellousMidgeMaisel · 03/03/2024 09:55

OolongTeaDrinker · 03/03/2024 08:06

People can call her whatever they want - the press still call her Kate Middleton a lot of the time 🤷🏻‍♀️

People are intrigued by the current situation as it is so out of step with normal royal protocol - even KC3 who is an elderly man suffering from cancer released a statement thanking his well wishers, yet not a peep from KM. This coupled with the other odd things - a middle of the night ambulance seen leaving Sandringham on Dec 28th, William’s strange behaviour in public and the absence of any direct statement from KM etc. has left people wondering what is going on. As is their right - we don’t have a choice but to pay for the royal family, their
cooperation with engaging with the public is part of the invisible contract, which itself relies heavily on the good will of the public, as one journalist wrote about MM ‘we pay you pose’. A sentiment that should apply to
all members of the royal family..

Ambulance leaving Sandringham? Missed that bit. Probably a pissed uncle.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 03/03/2024 09:55

God the poor woman. Can’t even recuperate without people gossiping about her. I wouldn’t want her life for all the money in the world.

Startingagainandagain · 03/03/2024 09:56

Well, they did say she would be taking time off until Easter.

But I do think the Palace comms have not been great in managing this. The secrecy was always going to create some speculations and gossip with generic announcements about 'abdominal surgery'.

Most people will work out that it is rather unusual to require that amount of time off at her age.

Also the fact that the King is also sick and William cancels an event at the last minute is meant to create a climate where people wonder what is going with all of them.

BashfulClam · 03/03/2024 09:56

Her make have been Middleton since her marriage. She is Catherine The Princess of Wales. She is recovering from surgery and is not a performing monkey.

Oakstreet · 03/03/2024 09:59

Wishing them all well as we wouldn't want anyone in poor health, not their biggest fan, but hopefully dismantling the whole charade and we can finally be monarch free. They can finally go to work as normal.

Okay , I'm just going to say it... where is Kate Middleton?
LondonPapa · 03/03/2024 10:02

She’s taken the kids to her parents and is considering a divorce after wandering Willy’s Willy found itself in RH… again! The whole nonsense of her being back by Easter is the PR hoping a settlement is reached.

DillDanding · 03/03/2024 10:02

She is Catherine The Princess of Wales

Only the most forelock tugging sycophant is going to refer to her like this on MN 😂

Even if Kate’s just fine by now (and I bet she is), she’s obliged to lie low. If she’s seen out shopping, or running, or even driving - she’ll be called lazy. ‘She’s out and about so why is she not doing any engagements?’.

Serenster · 03/03/2024 10:07

The statement released by the Waleses thanking well wishers has literally been posted on this thread!

And the ambulance story is complete fiction. Don’t believe everything you read on twitter, maybe?

I don't even think that's right, is it? Wasn't that only Diana's title after she divorced? I thought Kate was just HRH The Princess of Wales.

But yes fully agree that I can't refer to any of them by their titles with a straight face. If she'd become Kate Windsor, then sure, but the titles are ridiculous.

I would probably ask for your thread to be moved.

Agree! Fucking useless waste of space.

Sallyh87 · 03/03/2024 10:15

I’ve found it very easy to get back to work quickly after surgery because my job does not involve walking around and looking perfect. Leave the poor woman alone. She is exactly where we’ve been told, at home recovering from surgery.

WinnieTheW0rm · 03/03/2024 10:16

Press coverage in the Sundays is beginning to tip towards support for the Waleses in refusing to pander to conspiracy theorists demanding more information

My mum says, None of your Beeswax!

I think even members of the RF are allowed privacy when it comes to their health. They are human, after all.

LlynTegid · 03/03/2024 10:22

I am in the leave her alone camp.

You realise that people aren't all the same, recovery can vary for many reasons. To give an example when one of my kids was preschool he needed surgery and the following year he would need identical surgery on the opposite side of his body.

First op he was up and about the following day and discharged that night. Twelve months later he had some sort of reaction to the drugs they used in the surgery, he was violently sick, and I mean violently, for 48 hours leaving him exhausted and dehydrated and in hospital for a total of 6 days compared to just over 24 hrs once home he took much longer to get back to normal so it wasn't even just the immediate days. Same child, same op, different recovery.
