Looking a little uptight and exasperated when the collar is put on Charles and then the cloak? I didn't notice at the time but on sky re run I can see William looking uncomfortable and even impatient??

When Charles was walking back down the aisle past his family who were singing god save the king, why didn’t Edwards children bow/curtesy? Everyone else did, not sure about Harry but they didn’t.

moortownplumber · 07/05/2023 07:18

I felt his pain also,
mine was more of the thought,
we are paying for this pomp in a cost of living crisis, whilst refusing to pay our nurses,
#notmyking

Sewingdabs · 07/05/2023 07:20

My interpretation was that both The Prince of Wales and King Charles were at times deep in thought and prayer this was a solemn spiritual occasion. An expression that can be misinterpreted by some.

BadgerFacedCoo · 07/05/2023 07:22

Smiling at nice music is racist now. Gotcha.

We watched because it is historic. Maybe it's because it's Charles but I could put up with the pomp when it was the Queen, not so much now. Feels less traditional and more out of place.

The music and clothes were great.

The gold carriage, 250 million and that shit quiche can go.

People see what they want to see. I thought Prince Harry looked nervous but my mum thought he came across as arrogant. I don't mind him but she's not a fan and than can cloud how we interpret things. For instance I thought King Charles looked sad or thoughtful in parts but my mum thought he looked overjoyed, some people thought the queen looked bored but I think she looked rather happy. Bearing in mind none of us know them or how they react to situations. In some of my own wedding pictures I look serious but I bloody well remember smiling so much my face hurt I just didn't want to flash my teeth.

The members of the royal family would have been hyperaware of how important this occasion was to the monarchy and the image they portray. It would have been nice if people just enjoyed it for the spectacle it was without overanalysing it.

She looked pretty smug when it was placed on her head.

100%!!!

DorritLittle · 07/05/2023 07:41

Give her a break. She looked really nervous, not smug.

Also, there was some very odd organ music, felt like it was meant for a bingo hall circa 1950

I thought it was odd too. Sounded like a kid had a go on it.

MyopicBunny · 07/05/2023 07:44

I definitely noticed the king almost recoil when William had to kiss him on the cheek.

The royals don't kiss each other or hug. Harry said this in his autobiography. The most they are allowed to do is rub cheeks.

Diana once tried to hug the queen and she moved quickly out of the way.

He has a foul temper just like Charles.

But Harry isn’t at all grumpy I expect.

She was. She did the same when the African-American pastor did his sermon at Harry and Meghan's wedding. She clearly finds black people a source of amusement - she seems hugely unpleasant

You sound like you have a few issues. Kate was enjoying the music, she is allowed to smile during it.

It's worrying how snippy some people are because you've been brainwashed by the notion of having a RF as a good thing. You don't know these people any more than anyone else and, frankly they weren't even chosen for these roles. So it makes no sense.

EatYourVegetables · 07/05/2023 07:57

By that point they were all probably calculating how much longer until the next loo break. (I would have been.)

I think PW and family were late, maybe because of the kids (who knows), this made KC angry/flustered, and put the ceremony out of sorts. No one seemed very sure of what to be doing in the first 20 minutes. I will extend my psychic powers by thinking that they made up when William kissed him on the cheek. Massively stressful day, I know my family wod have had several rows by the time we reached the church.

I agree.

I lost it here at home when the dog stole the quiche I had made, scoffed the lot then threw it up at the backdoor! (I had just so much wanted to have one day in this bloomin' house where everything went well and I wasn't chasing my tail all day - I'd been up at 5.30am cooking it because I prefer quiche fresh. The greedy bugger left the salad, though, and the sausage rolls were saved.)

I said to Mr Viper that even if I'd been invited I couldn't have accepted - there wouldn't be enough Tena Lady in the world to see me through that length of time!

I thought she looked relieved that all of those bits were over and they were on the home stretch, so to speak.

I know Tena lady has saved me more than once in the past. In my youth it used to be my periods which was the issue now as I’m older it’s my bladder!

mauveiscurious · 07/05/2023 08:09

I thought everyone who was central to the Coronation look nervous at different times. There would have been plenty of rehearsals for it so I imagine there were places that things go awry.

I also think Charles would have been able to recite everything from memory but due to nerves in the day they recommended he read everything.

Camilla just looked relieved when the crowing was over.

William was probably aware his dad was super emotional and perhaps Charles shown it more at rehearsals.

They did the monarchy proud

Rubbish!

They made me smile, too - it was joyful and their joy was infectious.

As for that black pastor, he went well over his allotted time with his address. If she did "smile" she was probably anxious at the problems that would cause (anxiety can often emerge as apparently inappropriate amusement). The security around these occasions is timed to the second, and over-running in one area (or being too early) throws everything else out. That's also why Charles had to with in the coach when it arrived slightly early.

What a bitter and twisted mind you have, @VivienneDelacroix . Bet you’d have labeled Kate racist if she’d watched without smiling too.

Cannot believe the number of people who know what others are thinking, and can give a blow-by-blow account of what happened behind closed doors in the run up to the ceremony.

I don’t like the obscene wealth and I don’t like the privilege. But some people on here are unhinged!

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 07/05/2023 08:15

I haven’t watched it yet but I would imagine that the late great Queen was in everyone’s thoughts & maybe they were thinking what massive shoes Charles has to fill?

Emotionalsupportviper · 07/05/2023 08:18

Penny Mordaunt who must have been in training to hold that sword for so long. She looked fab, and looked positively formidable.

She DID look fabulous, @Morestrangerthings - I'm no fan of her but she looked wonderful and performed a stressful task very well. I loved her outfit.

I thought on both those occasions she was clearly enjoying the infectious warmth and enthusiasm of the people involved. I bet they loved her reaction.

LizzieSiddal · 07/05/2023 08:22

The Wales were not late, the King arrived 5 mins early! This meant he had to wait for the Wales.

I thought the Gospel singers were the highlight of the whole proceedings, they brought joy, whereas everything else was so solemn.

Charles looked exhausted as he left, was a bit worried about him.

Wow, you've just made up your own narrative of thoughts, feelings and events behind the scene. Impressive psychic powers indeed! 😂

Very "Alan Bennet's Mother" - I remember that he was interviewed once and said that she used to make up histories for people based on her own interpretations of their behaviour/ expressions. These would then become "truths" in her own mind and nothing would convince her that she wasn't right, and she would discuss people she had only seen once and never spoken to as though she knew them well.

I think we all do to some extent. (I know I do 😂)
