Looking a little uptight and exasperated when the collar is put on Charles and then the cloak? I didn't notice at the time but on sky re run I can see William looking uncomfortable and even impatient??

Whether Charles was early or the Waleses were late, it really did not make any difference to the ceremony. If posters had not said that the order of service stayed that the Waleses should be seated before he arrived, I doubt anyone would have noticed. I certainly didn’t. A very large mountain is being made out of a molehill. Anyway, we have seen orders of service being altered at the last minute before. Commonwealth Service anyone? 😂

Smilesy Yes I'm sure that's the case that everything still went smoothly. But you keep invalidating posters' perceptions that William seemed uptight. If he was uptight it's okay but it might have been something to do with this situation of being late or early and having to walk behind his dad when that wasn't the plan.

@Roussette how could they have been late when they set off all together from BP?

I have no idea. I wasn't in charge of anything. I just linked an Independent article...

As we have already established though, lots of posters saw no such uprightness. Just an appropriate solemnity. From previous threads, I am aware that you are inclined to think negatively of the Waleses so that is what you saw. I did not. And many other posters on this thread agree. And anyway, so what if he was “uptight” at the beginning? The ceremony went well and everyone relaxed. So no drama. Even though some are seeking it.

No I don't come on here to criticise the Wales so it's not about that. Other posters besides me did perceive that William was uptight. Some did perceive it and some didn't.

Sudeko · 07/05/2023 20:15

I like a good alien abduction story. Bring it on 😄

My point is though is that I there is no relevance as to whether he was uptight or not. It made no difference to the ceremony as a whole so I have no idea why any one would highlight it. Apart from to try and create drama where there was none. There are inevitably hiccups in large occasions like this and the Waleses late arrival or not, or perceived uprightness, made not a jot of difference to how the overall event ran. Therefore the only possible reason for highlighting his uprightness is to cast him as an uptight person. Especially as it does seem on the whole to be those who aren’t fans of his who have drawn attention to it.

I used to perform a lot as a teen and a child. Blinding headaches the whole time. Spots in front of eyes. I don’t think I ever looked back and went it was great. More frustrated at myself for not being able to enjoy it.

That’s how I imagine it to be. Not being able to ‘misbehave’ for a single second, knowing it will be broadcast to hundreds of millions of people. You can’t even look gormless for a few minutes and let your mind wander, or pick at something on your face. Imagine the migraine afterwards 😬

Nope not in my case (and probably others). I don't like any bashing of either the Wales or Sussex family. I say what I see or perceive.

StormzyinaTCup · 07/05/2023 20:39

I thought it went really well, everyone looked and sounded lovely. So many things could have gone wrong and I imagine the main players were living on their nerves for the entire duration of the service. I expect there was a huge sigh of relief when they crossed the finish line.

Not sure if they did leave from BP - the car behind might have been the page boys? There's a reel on their instagram which looks like Kensington Palace to me and there's no sign of anyone looking remotely flustered as they go to the car; they don't look like folk thinking "oh fuck I'm late for the coronation"

I did clock it when I was watching, I thought it was odd that they weren't there until after him. But I suspect that it might be 6 of one and half a dozen of the other; Charles was a few minutes early, W&K a minute or two late. Maybe something security related en route? Who knows.

I have tried to find this but can't. The online recordings I have watched don't show Kate at all. Maybe cut out showing OP is right?

More fevered imaginings. 🙄. I watched it on BBC I-player today. Catherine is smiling warmly at the gospel choir’s performance. She looks as though she’s enjoying it. So no, it wasn’t ‘cut out showing OP is right’.

40thmonarch · 07/05/2023 22:07

I felt Williams speechless tonight really made up for yesterday!
Very touching.

@AppleDumplingWithCustard I never mentioned Kate??
It was a momentary glance from William.

I didn’t mean you. I was quoting rattymol. She said the bit with Kate laughing was maybe cut out proving you right. I was merely quoting her.

Arxx · 07/05/2023 22:45

Imagine planning it for all that time then they arrive in the wrong order 🙈 someone will be getting grief for that I’m sure. Luckily so many people were walking down when Charles was it did sort of look like a procession coming down and made sense that William, Kate and the kids were in it. Harry will have been sitting there aware that they’re late though and probably secretly loving it 😂

Maireas · 08/05/2023 16:40

I thought William's speech last night was lovely, absolutely hit the right note about his dad, and crediting the service of many. An enjoyable evening all round!

Riverlee · 08/05/2023 19:04

I was really impressed with the speech last night.

StormzyinaTCup · 08/05/2023 19:12

It was a very good speech, not too formal, spoken with genuine feeling and just the right length.

I’m not sure if I had partaken in too much fizz but I thought he looked quite pleasing on the eye, which is a first for me!

Maireas · 08/05/2023 19:15

Blimey, @StormzyinaTCup - I was thinking the same! He looked very fit and sharp and seems to have grown into his looks. It was touching, heartfelt and lovely to acknowledge the service people perform, and how appreciated it is. Spot on.

StormzyinaTCup · 08/05/2023 19:30

@Maireas yes he did and yes he has.

Very well played👏

kirinm · 08/05/2023 19:32

Not using this as any sort of reliable source and also didn't notice William looking flustered but some claimed lip reading expect suggested that Charles was pissed off due to a delay by Kate /William. Ties in with what an OP said which is why I've mentioned it - I don't consider TikTok a reliable source!

Maireas · 08/05/2023 19:42

No, @kirinm - his coach journey was 8 mins quicker than the planned time, so W and K. hadn't quite arrived. They were supposed to go in first, but instead followed. Not a biggy.
Lovely pictures of the family posted today.

Maireas · 08/05/2023 19:44

Nobody flustered or pissed off, just the timing slightly off which could make folks a bit anxious, but all went well and the rest of it fine.

rattymol · 15/05/2023 09:47

@Maireas I think it is a big deal. It's like a guest arriving after the bride.

rattymol · 15/05/2023 09:48

William and Kate were posting footage of them departing their house on instagram. Maybe that made them late?
