Looking a little uptight and exasperated when the collar is put on Charles and then the cloak? I didn't notice at the time but on sky re run I can see William looking uncomfortable and even impatient??

I didn't see whatever you guys saw. William looked serious but not grumpy or angry to me.
He looked maybe a bit nervous when he was helping his dad with the robe, and later he on he also looked nervous when he was reading off the card when he made his pledge. He then kissed his dad tenderly, there was nothing tense or awkward about the moment. Also Kate looked like she was enjoying herself when the gospel singers were performing. I didn't see any smirking going on.

PollyPeptide · 07/05/2023 01:49

She looked pretty smug when it was placed on her head.

Nah. She looked worried it was about to fall off because it wasn't straight.

Kate wasn't smirking. She was smiling, as were Charles and Edward. I thought it was a great performance. It made me smile too.

I wonder if some of you guys watched the same coronation as me!

That's what I've wondered. They had all practised but they must all have had nerves. Justin Welby could probably do most of his words without looking but he knows you can blank and mess up the moment you get too self-assured. He read his prayers most of the time. Maybe the choirboy at the start had a crib sheet which we couldn't see. I thought Charles and Camilla looked nervous about the crowns. Who wouldn't? I believe they're heavy. By the time she was on the balcony she was more relaxed and there wasn't any point I saw when it looked as if it might fall off. William was reading from the crib, to be sure he didn't get any words wrong, but when he had time he looked straight at his father. When his prayer stool was taken away he touched the crown and then kissed his father's cheek, no doubt all exactly as practised, except they probably had a joke and a laugh after the rehearsal and they couldn't stop off today to do that.

When the lovely gospel singers did their bit, Kate was stifling giggles at their "exhuberance"!

She was. She did the same when the African-American pastor did his sermon at Harry and Meghan's wedding. She clearly finds black people a source of amusement - she seems hugely unpleasant.

MissTrip82 · 07/05/2023 02:17

I felt a bit sorry for William. He must have been thinking that this is his future, and his son’s, and I suppose some ‘what ifs’ about his mum. Add that to millions of people watching, and an extremely awkward situation with his brother…..

Didn’t envy him at all.

You lot are legit bonkers.
its the MN version of those people tweeting photos of the coronation with Diana’s face photoshopped on Camilla’s

The people that basically hate the monarchy or are sugars will say anything they can to denigrate the royals. Doesn't necessarily need to be accurate, as it is "their truth" and "recollections may vary".

People who either love/like the royal family or just wanted to see a historical event will not look at it with a jaded eye or look for something to kvetch over.

Anyone who is so daft to put Diana's face over Camilla's need to GTFU. Diana has been dead for 25 years. She was no saint and her hubris cost her dearly. It's long past time to let her RIP.

I think there are people on here conjuring up negativity because that’s what they wanted to see. I must have been watching a different Coronation because I didn’t see any. 🙄

Correct, perspective is everything. Look for the positive and the positive you will discover. Look for the negative too often and negativity will rule your soul.

You must need a nice lie down after all that stretching.

He has a foul temper just like Charles.

How exciting - we have ANOTHER Mum on this Net who is personal friends of PW.

How else could you be so unequivocally certain that he is foul tempered?

You know he is human, right?

ProstituteHair · 07/05/2023 03:06

Discwriter · 06/05/2023 22:36

I think PW and family were late, maybe because of the kids (who knows), this made KC angry/flustered, and put the ceremony out of sorts. No one seemed very sure of what to be doing in the first 20 minutes. I will extend my psychic powers by thinking that they made up when William kissed him on the cheek. Massively stressful day, I know my family wod have had several rows by the time we reached the church.

What's it like to just make stuff all the time?

Late?

I'm pretty sure they were all on a schedule facilitated by lots of people around them.

Late? That's hilarious.

Look, I'm not a great fan of the individuals of the monarchy, they are just people, but I think you're just looking for reasons to dislike them. I see a woman smiling at a wonderful performance.

No she wasn't, ffs. She was smiling to watch them, as was I. Because they were fabulous.

clyspa · 07/05/2023 03:27

Good lord - some extreme reaching by some posters

It went well, they were serious as they should be, there is on gossip

Move on

You clearly dislike kate because you're putting malice into a person who did nothing wrong but merely smile when the gospel singers were performing.

ButterBastardBeans · 07/05/2023 04:39

I think it was all brilliant. Some of the reading from the crib sheets was too obvious and stilted but it was mind blowing and historic and the words have to be got right for it all to be legit.

I wouldn't want their lives despite the money. If I want to drive to town, get a kebab and fart with every step back to my car, no-one notices or cares. They can't do even that simple thing. Sod that.

Morestrangerthings · 07/05/2023 05:46

I found the gospel choir so good, I couldn't take my eyes off them. Incredible voices. It was almost worth sitting through a mostly boring (to me) church service to just see them.

The other two stand outs for me, were

The choir boy who addressed the king (pretty cool), and
Penny Mordaunt who must have been in training to hold that sword for so long. She looked fab, and looked positively formidable.

Some of these posts are bonkers. Both William and Kate performed their duties impeccably yesterday, it was a beautiful ceremony

You sound like you have a few issues. Kate was enjoying the music, she is allowed to smile during it.

user1492757084 · 07/05/2023 06:08

I saw happy and entertained looks on Catherine.
She enjoyed the singers; they were uplifting.
The music for the service was riviting.

The whole Coronation was much more solemn and moving than I thought it would be. I was surprised. The symbols to remind Kings and Queens how to be fair and merciful leaders and all. The lessons were still so relevant.
Clearly King Charles was very emotional and William was taking it seriously. Reading the words, I think, looked a little awkward but getting an oath wrong would have been worse..

The central players were in the present and engaged with each other. I loved the readers' sincerity.
It was an intimate view of the proceedings that we were afforded.

The parade, the horses, the guests and crowds were all amazing and the service liturgy was meaningful.
I can understand why Queen Elizabeth took her promise to heart.
Loved Joanna Lumley's comments and seeing joyful guests. Harry seemed like the silliest person in the Abbey - sad by his own making and depriving his children of family memories and interactions.

Given William give his speech at last years concert of,the Queen without notes. I don‘T think he would have needed words. He was probably terrified with the numbers watching. I’d read it too. I probably wouldn’t remember my own name.

the only person in the whole thing to remember his words by heard was Samuel at the beginning who invited the King to Westminster Abbey. All the rest of them read everything. Just that mind blindness that comes with stress.

William had a teleprompter at the concert.

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/05/2023 06:23

I think the Wales’ had had a row before their arrival. Happens to us all at some point 🤣

Waveyhouse · 07/05/2023 06:32

If I was being watched so closely by millions of people all around the world - I’d feel abit on edge & nervous. I think some people are actively looking for negatives.

That’s exactly what I’m thinking @AppleDumplingWithCustard. Sounds like you and I watched a totally different Coronation to some of the bonkers posts in here today.

Seymour5 · 07/05/2023 06:51

@VivienneDelacroix thats some conclusion you’ve jumped to! Amazing how her smiling at a performance can be interpreted not to mean enjoyment.
