Ajay the tailor speaks about the flower girl dresses

No surprises here. Days before the wedding the dresses didn’t fit. Couture gowns, made by Givenchy from measurements sent in. This tailor worked day and night but they had all six dresses to fix. It’s obvious they couldn’t get it all done. They really needed remade.

I think we can see why Kate was upset and why Charlottes dress and some of the other younger flower girls dresses looked awful.

but How did givenchy of all fashion houses fuck it up? That’s inexcusable of them

Jordosky · 10/01/2023 20:36

Seems to corroborate Kate’s take and legitimise her reaction. He even explains what a big deal it was, on the world stage after all.

thistimelastweek · 10/01/2023 20:38

Meghan looked gorgeous on the day but I thought she could have done with an extra fitting too.

Orangefir · 10/01/2023 20:39

The girls never had a fitting. This makes no sense. The average high street bridal store isn’t couture but made to measure and there are still multiple fittings. At least two.

Yet these are couture gowns, no fittings? Delivered days before the wedding. They also haven’t sent over their own seamstresses. So a tailor is employed to make all alterations to six dresses days before the wedding?

Something's seriously off

Ajay sounds very nice. Hopefully his business will flourish.

saveforthat · 10/01/2023 20:41

Also why Givenchy. Why not a British dressmaker

VladmirsPoutine · 10/01/2023 20:41

The article doesn't vindicate Kate. On the contrary the text message exchange makes Kate look vindictive.

My guess is that these dresses were a last minute change. I cannot imagine why else they were not ready and fitted earlier.

SnowAndIceLobelia · 10/01/2023 20:44

Lord how stressful. I can well understand how everyone got upset and snippy about it.

thebellagio · 10/01/2023 20:44

I just find it so hard to believe that Givenchy didn’t have a team of seamstresses on hand for the weeks leading up to the wedding to check fittings.

it’s also awful that this man literally rebuilt these dresses and never got any credit until now

Harrysfrostbittentodger · 10/01/2023 20:47

I don’t understand why people are all up in arms about this.

Kate, a mother of three with a newborn (3 weeks postpartum) was stressing because her daughter’s dress didn’t fit and her child was upset about it. She knew that she and all the other girls would be on the world stage and would be judged.

Meghan is planning the wedding of the year, millions upon millions will be watching and she’s got a lot more to focus on than just bridesmaids’ dresses. Her family are also making a spectacle of themselves and she is unsure if her father is walking her down the aisle. She is also majorly stressed.

They are both curt with each other. In the text messages, both are rude to each other. Meghan cried. Harry is sure that Kate didn’t intend to make Meghan cry and just assumes that emotions are running high. Kate takes accountability and apologies with a gift. Meghan said Kate did everything that she would have done in the same situation.

The only problem is that it was leaked to the press and a false narrative was created. That’s all they wanted to correct.

I mean, this, really.

Not exactly a new or unusual thing for families to snipe at each other in times like that.

Orangefir · 10/01/2023 20:49

Me too @thebellagio

Employing a local tailor to rework couture gowns? Why on earth would Givenchy not send anyone over?
The head designer was there on the day with Meghan wasn’t she, so she would have known that it was left to Ajay and his team to fix her mess.

For all we know, Kate also cried but she's not going to speak about it. I don't think we can trust that Harry is a reliable narrator at this point.

maryofthevirginkind · 10/01/2023 20:50

I thought Meghan's dress didn't fit well anyway. Lack of planning and organisation for dresses not to be fitting properly so close to the day.

Gilmorehill · 10/01/2023 20:51

The tailor’s response is very reasonable but I can’t understand how it got to that stage. It was the biggest wedding in the world that year. You’d think Givenchy would have bent over backwards. Charlotte’s dress still didn’t look right. M’a dress didn’t fit well either.

It really does not make sense. Suspect there is more to the story that would help us understand. I wonder if they are even able to defend themselves, though.

Namechange828492 · 10/01/2023 20:52

The text messages seem like a minor squabble. What shocked me is how none of the dresses seem to fit properly, if her mum had knocked them up then fsir enough but from a major fashion house who knows this will be broadcast worldwide, Givenchy seem to have dropped the ball.

It was a british designer btw i forget hee name

Orangefir · 10/01/2023 20:53

Exactly, Harry keeps stating it was Meghan that cried not Kate. But I’m pretty sure if Charlotte is crying because she has a dress far to big for her mere days before the wedding, Kate would have got a bit teary too.

Agree, crazy to have them done abroad with no fittings, children can have sudden growth spurts, measurements can be hard to get accurately. Mine were done by a seamstress and she made them really well. Very similar style too, a classic bridesmaid shape with short sleeves.

Maybe a relationship breakdown?

Their gowns were on the world stage and they never fitted the poor girls. Must be a reason why

Probably six of one and half a dozen of the other between Meghan and Kate. Of course emotions were running high, a wedding isn't a wedding if there isn't isn't bit of drama, all the more so when the whole world will be watching. A storm in a teacup that could have easily been resolved by telling them both to calm.down and move on. No need to keep banging on about it for years!!

ItsHitTheFanNow · 10/01/2023 20:58

Staggering that Givenchy did such a shoddy job.

Namechange828492 · 10/01/2023 20:58

Fairplay to Ajay though he seems to have really pulled through, maybe he should have made them in the first place!
