No surprises here. Days before the wedding the dresses didn’t fit. Couture gowns, made by Givenchy from measurements sent in. This tailor worked day and night but they had all six dresses to fix. It’s obvious they couldn’t get it all done. They really needed remade.

I think we can see why Kate was upset and why Charlottes dress and some of the other younger flower girls dresses looked awful.

I think both of them got upset and cried. Lying on the floor sobbing... OFFS

but How did givenchy of all fashion houses fuck it up? That’s inexcusable of them

Little girls grow. Measurements taken by mothers/relatives who aren't used to taking measurements and get it wrong.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 10/01/2023 21:11

Honestly could someone not have popped to Harvey Nicks for 6 lovely little dresses ?!! Did they have to be couture ?! Or got someone like Rachel Riley or Amaia Kids to drop a load off

queenofarles · 10/01/2023 21:12

Even Meghans wedding dress didn’t fit her properly , but her Stella McCartney dress was perfection ,
strange as Givenchy couture is supposed to be a cut above SM , goes to show that now days couture is not what it once was,

Does anyone else remember the wretched feeling of dress shoes as a child? I am 50 and I still do. Cannot image having been made to wear them with no tights or socks.

Yes! I’m an adult and even now can’t wear shoes without socks or tights. I hate it. I’d have hated to have to make my toddler do it as well and it would have made me angry and possibly tearful, if trapped like Kate into having to go along with it. She couldn’t pull her child out or not go, imagine the uproar?

Bunnycat101 · 10/01/2023 21:12

Apparently the evening dress was 3.5k and the wedding £120k. It does seem very odd for that price band there were no proper fittings. I assume some sort of NDA in place so will never know but given the high profile you’d have thought a team would be there to make sure everything was perfect. It’s not a great look for the brand. Even for my expensive but not couture wedding dress, the design house said I needed to pay for a toile as my measurements were between sizes and they didn’t want to risk a bad fit by altering out of proportion.

The article doesn't vindicate Kate. On the contrary the text message exchange makes Kate look vindictive.

Really? It wasn't her wedding. She'd just given birth and had 2 other small children. And 4 days before the wedding the bride asked her to organise getting the dress fixed. I would have been seriously peed off.

EmmaEmerald · 10/01/2023 21:14

Orangefir · 10/01/2023 21:04

So the process is

  • take the measurements
  • make the toile according to the measurements
  • first fitting
  • second fitting
  • (Third fitting not always needed)
  • Final fitting

Usually for brides there are so many fittings because lots of brides lose weight between appointments and with kids you have to have fittings because of the kids sprouting etc

So a prestigious couture house such as Givenchy making dresses straight from measurements emailed in. Delivered days before and no seamstress sent for alterations. It’s odd

Thanks OP

You'd think they'd have a representative on hand even if it was last minute

but then maybe it's inaccurate, and they will have a dilemma about wjether or not to make a statement

Ajay sounds like a real pro and has been very diplomatic

I thought Meghan's dress was lovely but can't say I paid any attention to bridesmaids.

The tailor worked day & night to fix them, I don't think they looked awful.

The Canadian bffs daughter, her dress looked lovely.

but the others didn’t at all. Too big, waist lines too low, lost volume in the skirt, unlined, sleeves too big and hemline wasn’t straight. I spotted it immediately on the day.

However, I’m in utter admiration of Ajay and his team who worked day and night to fix the dresses but there’s only so much you can do in the time frame. Give that man a gong

One of the girls had a perfectly fitted dress though. I wonder if they had it altered as well.

It was odd, because Charlotte's dress still wasn't fixed for the wedding. The hem was hanging in places and the fit was wrong.

It totally vindicates Kate. ALL the dresses were totally unfit to wear in their original state.
The text message exchange was written by HARRY.

UWhatNow · 10/01/2023 21:16

Kate was right about tights too.

Maybe Givenchy just looked at the client name and didn’t recognise it as being anybody significant?

Madcats · 10/01/2023 21:16

I suppose we need to wait for Meghan's book, but something must have been going horribly wrong for a tailor and/or seamstress to need 4 days to fix some bridesmaids' dresses (with wonky/inconsistent hems).

Sweetmotherofallthatisholyabov · 10/01/2023 21:16

Wasn't Sarah Burton literally at the Abbey with Kate. I'm in shock that there wasn't a team for fittings the week of the wedding.

also to note that's not an actual text exchange it's an imagined one based off what's written in Spare.

LadyTwinkle · 10/01/2023 21:16

I assumed for a wedding of this magnitude that there would be a professional wedding planner (or 5) organising things like dress fittings. but yet 4 days before the wedding Meghan and Kate were whatsapping each other about bridesmaid dresses. That just seems crazy and bizarre to me. I know that's what us common folk would do but not the Royal Family surely. I thought the valets and ladies maids would handle that.

FedUpWithEverything123 · 10/01/2023 21:16

And Meghan's own dress looked dreadful, didn't fit her at all

You do realise that text exchange is a fiction? 🙄

Meghan had organised Ajay though?

cosmiccosmos · 10/01/2023 21:18

Well it's put me off buying anything from Givenchy 🤣

Harry allegedly stated Meg could make her own clothes in his discussion with KC re. finances, perhaps she could have knocked out a few repairs prior to the day.

Meghans designer Claire keller (Givenchy) was there on the day of her wedding. Fixing the the train as Meghan ascended the steps to the church

She would have seen those flower girls in their dresses and how badly they fitted

Yes he sounds lovely. He comes out of it well.

The Stella McCartney dress was great, maybe her best look ever.

But I'd argue that didn't fit her properly either and was clearly too big. Princess Sofia of Sweden wore the same dress in green and the difference in fit is very noticeable. Sofia's arm candy is so much better too!

I don’t understand why people are all up in arms about this.

Kate, a mother of three with a newborn (3 weeks postpartum) was stressing because her daughter’s dress didn’t fit and her child was upset about it. She knew that she and all the other girls would be on the world stage and would be judged.

Meghan is planning the wedding of the year, millions upon millions will be watching and she’s got a lot more to focus on than just bridesmaids’ dresses. Her family are also making a spectacle of themselves and she is unsure if her father is walking her down the aisle. She is also majorly stressed.

They are both curt with each other. In the text messages, both are rude to each other. Meghan cried. Harry is sure that Kate didn’t intend to make Meghan cry and just assumes that emotions are running high. Kate takes accountability and apologies with a gift. Meghan said Kate did everything that she would have done in the same situation.

The only problem is that it was leaked to the press and a false narrative was created. That’s all they wanted to correct.

I totally agree with this.
